QUICK QUESTION: I can do the tethering just fine and it works great at my house, but my friend doesnt have wi-fi. He wants to hook his ps3 online for a little while so we can play some Call of Duty4, and I know i could hook it up through tethering his laptop then taking the CAT5 cable from the pc to the ps3. THIS WILL WORK, however, will my data usage be noticed or have you guys also run up a huge data use with no problem?

first off you're about a year late on your response. Second, I did end up trying it and it works fine. I had a 355 kb/s connection and I was able to play with a moderate signal. Third, you obviously have no idea how 802.11 wireless works. You'll get the same, if not better connection through a wireless router than you would through a standard ethernet connection.

ok mate obviously you dont have as quick a connection as me as your 355 kb/s is alot lower than mine. I wouldnt want to play against you online as I hate laggy players.

Again you fail to listen. I tried it once and it worked flawlessly without lag. Besides that, the speed of 355 kb/s was achieved with my old 3G, my current 3GS has a download speed of 2045 kb/s and an upload speed of 200 kb/s.

hey man, i'm not sure why you think normal wifi is too slow to play online. mine isn't.

it's not too slow to play online when tethering through my iphone either. i know it sounds suprising. but i tried it when my normal dsl was down, and it actually worked fine for modern warfare 2, gta4, and warhawk. but i definitely would make sure you don't have any other network activities going on when you do it. over 3G tethering to my iphone 3gs, my ps3 online gaming worked just as good as reg.
