Karen Carpenter is more than a diva to me, well I couldn't really say she is a diva. But for me she has a different category among the rest. For me, she is an angel.
Her voice.. wow.. So simple, yet so rare and so beautiful - it's unexplainable.. For me, one of my most favorite voices of all time.
Man I wish I had that voice! So unfair...I don't think anyone will ever come close to having a better voice. Singers today should take a lesson or two!
If time travel existed, the person I would try to save would be Karen, just to hear her sing again. This so beautiful...she makes the song sound so amazing.

For me it's the opposite, I've always heard (and loved) the Skeeter Davis version, so I'm naturally a bit baised, but from a critical point of view, Karen's voice is doesn't have the softness needed for this song in my opinion.
