it's nils lofgren who plays "Idas Sommarvisa" on the harmonica. he is from sweden, and "idas sommarvisa" is an old old swedish folk song. i know the song from the astrid-lindgren-movie "emil i lönneberga". i was very surprised to find it here as teh opening of bruces concert !

Yeah, I agree. It's too melancholy of a song to hop to. But, I have a feeling Europeans aren't sure of most of the meaning to his songs. Just like most Euros think "Born in the USA" is a flag-waving anthem...

Uhm, I would say its the opposite. Europeans do pay a lot of attention to the lyrics, not only Bruce but every artist. I could not say the same about Ronald Reagan who used Born in the USA during his presidential campaign. And who could forget that the state of New Jersey wanted Born to Run as their official anthem, lol ;)

This is obviously a case of you not really taking the meaning out of the WHOLE album. Not only is this song sad, but it has hope - even though it's clouded hope, it still allows scope for jumping etc. YOU, "Sir Bruce Expert" should really know that you don't take the meaning of one of his songs alone, but include the context of the entire album. YOU of all people should know his albums are sonds woven together into stories. Try and listen to yourself before you write.

Uh no.. I'm on my feet the whole time & completely energetic. During the quiet songs, I keep my mouth shut & sit. But during crowd pleasers like "Rosalita," I'm bouncing & going nuts. So, I behave depending on the song's mood. And I'm 23, btw.

Downbound Train is a beautiful piece of art and the song should have been more "listened to" than "jumped to". Too bad I think, because this song was one of the best moments of the show. If Bruce wouldn't have picked it as opening song, I'm sure people would have listened harder. I'm used to Bruce starting gigs with crowdpleasers so this was a slight surprise.
