i thought i was cool when i ran under 15 min for 5k. i got to take times at the chicago marathon one year at the 5k mark and there were arond 40 - 50 runners in a group all sub 15 min for the first 5k of the marathon... :(

A class race, i can remember Wanjuri was forcing the pace in what Brendan Foster & Steve Cram considered a reckless performance.

Wanjuri was running a lot of the time at faster than world record pace, only the strong or perfectly trained would survive.

Luke Kibet, Matin Lel the supream Marathon men of our era eventually fell apart in the heat and humidity.

It's the first major marathon i think ive seen where a particular athlete didnot care who was in the race.

Sammy Wanjuri raced the 42K distance leaving the big names like Kibet and Lel to either go with him or run their own race.

There are no pace runners in the Olympics but Sammy was forcing the pace to beyond world record speed at times.

His 2-06-32 shows he was in the perfect condition at the right time.
