  • please please please !

  • thumbs up for liking the smiths BEFORE watching 500 days of summer

  • @MaisyFarren I hate people that put up messages like this. Who gives a fuck if you liked it before or after it was featured in some shit movie? why does it matter a shit? You are not cool or original. I do not respect you any more or less because of it. Don't put something like this up again. It makes you look like an attention seeking hipster. Thanks.

  • @itsallreal oh haha sorry didn't mean to offend!!!!

  • he was indie before it was even a thing

  • @cupramac except for the for there have been major indie labels in britain since the 1950s, learn some history before you state some stupid bullshit terminology based on the fact you think you're cool for listening to mgmt

  • @scottbaioisdead who the fuck threw you a peanut? shut your trap you silly keyboard warrior

  • @cupramac sorry a little boy who has soulja boy as his likes does not have the right or musical knowledge to comment here.

  • you suck

  • extras sent me

  • if i'm honest.. i prefer the Clayhill version which was featured on This Is England.

  • This is not the video for this song.

  • @redtimmy you're damn right!

  • all i can say slow moving millie pfffffffffffffff ppl who think her cover is better need ear test....smiths are in total different class...wouldnt even compare....and the fact is ........she didnt write the song...and i very much doubt she could write anything that even comes close to smiths..sick of hearing about millie...wat a joke....get real ppl ....

  • As soon as the song started i got goosebumps all over my body including my head-and i have heard this song hundreds of times over the years. I know it sounds corny but something about The Smiths touches my soul.

  • @menlove251 I know what you mean, i get it everytime i hear The Smiths or Morrissey :-)

  • significantly in all the senses

  • Fuckin' perfect! <3

  • So beautiful l this video...♥

  • i like the bit 0 - 1.52

  • As Morrissey famously plagarised:

    Talent Borrows - Genius Steals

But as for the song, the original is still the best.

  • ive listened to this over 100 times in last 48 hours

  • @lepardlew Lawl >:D

  • chicago art gallery scene from ferris buellers day off - immortal song , immortal movie.

  • @MrMuseboy LIFE? Aren't Muse one of the most notorious sort of dreary bands ever? No offence, but you can't diss the brilliant Smiths.

    Anyway.

There comes a rare time when a song can make you feel sad but in a good way. It's rare time when these songs do exist. This rare time is obviously now.

  • @MissPhyscosocial He was always going to comment with something like that, his name is MrMuseBoy lol

  • so boring, muse puut life into this song

  • @MrMuseboy trololo

  • The song should be much longer, like 24 hours longer hahahaha.

  • I lkie Muse's cover, but this one is beautiful too :D

  • ive never seen a dislike bar so small lol

  • I don't care if it was "her own interpretation". I don't care if it was "flattery". I don't care what members of the Smiths think of her. That women took a giant shit on perfection.

  • his face shouts, "douchebaggery", or "flaming faggotry". be that as it may, this is a classic song

  • @ultrakool he's beautiful

  • Why bother about people comparing this song..The Smiths wrote this song about their lives, you can cover any song but you have to live it to write it, and that's whats so beautiful about this song,,a masterpiece..all great artist are copied not just in music

  • Saw the Smiths four times they are the greatest British band of all time in my humble opinion

  • muse's version is the best in my opinion !

  • im not sure i like this version, i like Slow Moving Millie better, but well dont anyway :)

  • @MissMint102 Did you mean to type "well done anyway"?

  • @MissMint102 Yes, well done The Smiths for writing and composing the song. What a shame they clearly didn't do it right!

I'm being sarcastic. You are a vegetable that likes watching the X Factor.

  • @nicck Haha! Incredible comment :D

  • @MissMint102 Cool story bro, don't tell it again

  • @MissMint102 This is The Smiths. The Smiths wrote this song in 1984. What you should be saying is "I'm not sure I like the original". Although, how can anyone like "Slow Moving Millie" more than The Smiths? She's so boring and unoriginal.

  • this is in the john lewis ad

  • @ralph5409

It is but the song used in the JLewis ad is a cover by a different artist called slow moving millie :)) x

  • This is to be my funeral song and when it plays, i intend for a female midget dressed in a suit with a top hat to waltz down the aisle with a bearded male giant in a wedding dress as her partner.

  • Music at its absolute best. You don't have to be musically minded to realise that this is such a simple and beautiful song. It's got to be one of the best songs EVER made.

  • Who cares if it's on a John Lewis, The more people that find out about The Smiths the better. It will take them to a place they have never been before.

  • Haven't had a dream in a long time.

  • tat was alriht

  • The best smiths song! :)

  • Show's the Smith's could write a straight forward ballad....Just do it better than anyone else....

  • Smiths will live for ever,so much comes and goes.Truth will always we loved.

  • like if your love for the smiths brought you here and not some bloody skirt singing it!!!!

  • The cover by slow moving millie is her own interpretation of the music, and the smiths said they like it. If you don't, then don't listen to it and enjoy the original. Personally I like them both, and even though I've liken the smiths versions for much longer I have no problem with anyone who wants to cover it - copying is the best form of flattery!

  • @cobbtothejay Liked*

  • @SkidMarkDubstep "Oh my God, somebody misspelt something on the internet. I must correct them at once, as I am a pathetic excuse for a human being with no life."

  • @cobbtothejay But also the reason why charity shops get filled with so many shit CD's.

  • @cobbtothejay What!!! You have no problem with anyone covering it? Like its your song??!!!

  • FUCK JOHN LEWIS!!!!

  • omg dis is a great cover of slow moving millie, is this band touring soon?

  • @pikeyvideos trolololol

  • It f*cks me off so much when someone comes along, simply remakes a piece of music, gets lucky by John Lewis using it on their christmas ad, then their 'new' version starts being thought of as anything other than a cover.

  • Comment removed

  • This & the Muse cover are amazing. Brilliant song. The Smiths FOREVERRR

  • He's better looking now, too bad he is a poof.

  • 500 days of summer brought me here!

  • @16Mele Me to my friend

  • I'm prepard to wait another 25 years and let another generation compare Smiths to Slow Moving Millie.

But I'm calling it now: the Smiths are gonna win the vote for better version with their timeless classic ORIGINAL version.

  • Morrissey's voice hardly does the lyrics he sings any justice. Sounds like he's just doing it for the money. Slow moving millie actually sounds like she means it when she sings the words. So take your pick. Although I agree its a shitty song to advertise Christmas presents and somehow it will forever be associated with a department store, rather than the hope for love.

  • @theangrywelshman

I could NOT disagree more. Are you kidding me? Morrissey is the LAST person on earth to ever 'do it for the money.'

The Slow Moving Millie cover is decent...but it doesn't touch the original. Not even close.

Not to mention that in 10 years no one is going to remember who SMM is (as if anyone knows who she is now), while Morrissey will always be one of the most influential figures in music history. There's just no comparison any way you look at it. It's a joke, really.

  • @MozVolta Read the comment. "Sounds like" being precisely that. Doesn't mean to say he is. As Morrissey has already said, he likes this version. Crucifying an unknown artist before they have released an album is a mistake many naive people make. Ask the Beatles, Tom Jones etc. But hey, lets just say I won't care about any of this tomorrow, let alone in 10 years time. Go in peace.

  • @theangrywelshman this post makes me utterly ashamed to be Welsh. Laughably wide of the mark.

  • @wartyflange Really? Whats being Welsh got to do with it? I didn't realise I was the spokesman for the whole of Wales. You should have said sooner. I decree that all people everywhere should own at least one Tom Jones album. There you go fella. Sleep well tonight.

  • amazing, if anyone wants to download the john lewis one, then dont, get this instead

  • @jimmysnailshoes the smiths version sucks the cover by slow moving millie is much better

  • @onlinetyrant Well their would be no cover without the original so that is just garbage talk, respect ''the smiths''

  • Such a shame that John Lewis turned this song on it's head to refer to getting fucking christmas presents.

  • @makky123 this is the only time i'll ever agree with a comment about that advert. I actually like the version they used in it, and I think the advert is cute and charming, but the way they used the song was very crafty and below the belt

  • New cover is soooo much better :)

  • @feelingthesubstance A 23 year old was'nt born when the Smiths split, others were to young to appreciate them. A TV advert comes along using a cover of the song in what is a very popular advert. People who like the song do a bit of digging and find a whole load of fantastic songs and a whole new audience for the Smiths is born. And somehow you think this is a bad thing?

  • @andrewj100 someone's on there period. fucking hell haha

  • @andrewj100

I found out about the smiths, that exact same way... they're pretty awesome. :D

  • @feelingthesubstance I think she does a great cover of this and through that The Smiths get some acknowledgement and kudos for the tune they originally wrote? and performed etc.., Its perfect for everybody, I would think.

  • @feelingthesubstance I know! It wound me up too.

  • Sorry though...Man the Smiths were fantastic and morrisey was a `brilliant singer......fukin awesome music

  • WOW...I heard this music in Ferris Bueller recently...Dream academy are great but OMG ANOTHER awesome song by the Smiths.....sooo fukin brilliant..Morrisey was great when he was young....he is a fat sad nasty fucker now from wht I saw

  • Please please please let this song be bigger for once in my life...

  • lagu ini buat siska ana fijayanti

    300810

  • ...=D

  • The last 40 seconds of this song make me sad.

  • Love this song and all the songs of TS. They remind me of being really young. I was 4 years old when it was released as a b-side and i remember being sat listening to my brothers music outside his bedroom door as he got ready to go out. I got my musical education early. The Smiths, Morrissey, Stone Roses etc. This song has been with me nearly all my life.

  • THE SMITHS R THE BEST BAND EVER!

  • I hate that advert that uses this song, whenever it comes on I switch channel as fast as possible.

  • oh gorsh this nice, ehhh?

  • @MrsMorrissey13 I was being sarcastic; clearly this is the superior version, but the guy to whom I was replying tried to make the "popular = better" argument when it came to the covers of this song. I was just trying to point out how he looked like an idiot.

  • i prefer the cover by slow moving millie but its cuz its more my genre, Im not gonna put this is shit cuz it isnt and im not some sad-act hater.

  • @TomDaplyn18 Nah bud that's cool. The original is the best imo, but there's a few really good covers, and slow moving millie's is arguably the best cover.

  • Great song, but I don't like his voice.

  • Lol, yeah the world is just full of quality popular music...

  • I prefer Slow Moving Millies version. Morrissey is just a whinging emo.

  • I got the impression this song was going to be amazing but it's actually crap. There's a reason it was covered and it's not down to its popularity of 100,000 views (Fans of the cover making up a large number).

  • @Disconn3ction LOL! SO TRUE!!!! IF THIS IS SO GOOD WHY ISNT IT AS POPULER AS THE COVERS OH YEAH THATS RIGHT CUZ IT SUCKS LOL

  • @Disconn3ction popularity = quality? moron.

  • @PepsiAndKetchupPleez surprisingly for you at times it is popularity for quality.

  • still love him. saw him in vancouver 1992 or 94 i can't remember.but it was fantastic.

  • The Smiths should never, ever be covered.

  • @htlfc i agree

  • To be honest thank you john lewis for introducing me to this song! I think its amazingg and cant stop listening to it :D

  • Jesus people. Shut up about that advert. If anything at least it could introduce people to The Smiths. Ive been a smiths fan for a few years, and I hadnt actually heard this song before I saw the advert and I knew it was a smiths cover instantly. Im glad it was covered. Its a great cover.

  • @maneatingtoilets A Smiths fan that hadn't heard this. I think not.

  • @bobbydylanio Theres a difference between being a fan and an obsession.

  • @maneatingtoilets And what is wrong with an obsession? If you love something, obsess over it.

  • @bobbydylanio Nothing. Not in this case anyway. Im just not obsessed is all.

  • @maneatingtoilets Well i am an obsessive I suppose but I don't care about the advert (if thats what we were even talking about)

  • @maneatingtoilets There is no way you could be a Smiths fan and not have heard this song till the cover.

  • @stork101 I suppose the laws of physics deny this do they? I have enjoyed the smiths so much that I was completely satisfied with the songs I already had. Now I wish I had looked for more. I bought The Smiths remastered album a few years ago.

  • @maneatingtoilets The laws of The Smiths deny this! You can't call yourself a Smiths fan until you have heard this song!

  • happy to say i knew this song before the advert

  • rather Slow Moving Millies version.. Sorry guys, no hard feelings!

  • had to listen to this again to cancel out all the EVIL of the john lewis ad!

  • thumbs down if your here because of John Lewis advert!

  • Apsolutno fantasticno.

  • this version is not bad but the original John Lewis is the best :-)...........like fuck is it!!

  • @stellbell1000 you are actually satan

  • John Lewis Advert

  • eww this is fucking alwful peice of shit...

see you guys dont like it when i talk like that, but why the hell are people commenting on over covers saying stuff like that?

    there no need....

btw i do like this song <3

  • Been a fan for a long long time and this is my favourite Smiths song.... but have to say Slow Moving Millie's version is a great cover...

  • can't believe this is being used in a John Lewis christmas advert!

  • Amazingly beautiful song!!! <3

  • beautiful video, specially the footage of them when they're old.

  • deftnos cover is great

  • Well each one of us have our favourites cover, in my opinion The dream academy one is the best cover ever of this song !!

  • There is something about that song. If you are haunted by the ghosts from the 1980s don't play it.

  • Comment removed

  • @marc30103211 Long live The Smiths.

  • @marc30103211 Nah, you can't fault the original. Muse is my fav band and all but I love The Smiths

  • @marc30103211 Lol, Muse is the worst cover of this song

  • @marc30103211 I like Muse's version of this, as well as the Deftones' version. But the original has a delicate feel that I don't think either band could pull off.

  • @TheClockworkMind You are so right!

  • :`)

  • the smiths really need to reunite, time to forget their differences, life really is to short

  • @cosworth400 Or at least Morrissey and Marr should do something together again, like tour. That would be enough for me. And it could happen. They still respect and admire each other, and have said so. But there's no way in hell Morrissey would ever appear onstage with Mike Joyce again. Ain't gonna happen. But to me, Morrissey/Marr is the Smiths. I'd love to see them play together again.
