I'm a massive fan of the cartoon series (it's ranked among my top TV shows ever, right up there with Doctor Who and the Twilight Zone) but I have to admit, I did enjoy the movie.
Yes some things were bad, or just didn't feel right but come on, you had to put an entire TV season into one movie. There was bound to be problems. I think the film was an amazing effort and honestly? I enjoyed it for what it was.
I loved the movie and hope they do make a sequel. I don't really compare it to the series (which I am a huge fan of), I look at it as a independent film. It could have been better, (like Shyamalan's ORIGINAL version before Paramount interfered), but I really did enjoy it. Just my opinion. The music? PERFECTION.
THis movie made me want to kill myself someone else should direct this movie to make it amazing which is THE WAY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN!!!!!! But the new director (If there ever will be one) should deffinately bring James Newton Howard back to create another brilliant soundtrack!
@zarenlug20 Actually a whole trilogy is planned. The Last Airbender II is planned for 2012 and The Last Airbender III is planned for 2014 US release :D
@Engeltjeeee LOL what do you mean dont complain? Granted the music score was descent but you cant overlook the diarrhea shit of a movie M. Night Shamalan created. Hope next movie is not made by that ass hole of a director. He ruined a good cartoon movie for me. I can't wait for next one either. Hope they get the source material right. Otherwise i am gonna quit watching the movie.
@coolmartcol yeah I'm still kinda mixed about the movie... there were parts I liked, parts that seemed cheesy or cliche', parts that weren't clear (maybe because I'd never seen the cartoon), and parts that were visually pleasing. But I fell in love with the score instantly! I hope they use the same composer for the next 2, it'd be a mistake not too. I'd like to see where he continues to take it.
@brandonthomas78 I feel kind of the same way. You know how a movie can be pretty bad, but not completely, but there's this indescribable element about it that makes you like the movie more than you dislike it? That happened with me with Airbender.
But yes, the score is amazing. Absolutely. I'm glad most people (if not all) are in virtually unanimous agreement that Howard's score is superb work, despite what it was scored for.
@brandonthomas78 The Movie wasn't really like the cartoon, it was different. If you've wachted the cartoon and the movie, you can notice that some parts are very different or not in the cartoon!
@MrBRFB well at this point I've seen & gotten hooked on the series too. I loved the ending wave in the movie more than the water spirit takeover in the series.I see where they took Roku's spirit & guided at first and just used the dragon spirit instead (I wish he had just stayed with Roku but I see how they kept the dragon element). For me the series seemed filled with more emotion that also seemed more natural (pretty hard and amazing to be pulled off by an anime/cartoon series in my opinion)
@Verris54321 I felt the wave was more in-tune with the spirit of the avatar. It was more about showing the power, and having the others see that other elements could be powerful and deserved respect as well. Not just mindless destruction like the original water spirit version. Plus I also liked that they used the "memories and flashbacks" of his people to help fuel his emotional state allowing him to bend in such an inspring way etc etc
@brandonthomas78 problem is that is NOT avatar... it's an adaption and a terrible one at that. The Avatar State at that time is suppose to be mindless destruction all the way until he unlocks his chakra and had complete control of what he does...I'm beginning to wonder if you even watched the cartoon >_> in this they made it seem like he already knew what he was doing it was stupid and not cool at all...I can only imagine what they would have done with his voice in the Avatar State. -_-
@Verris54321 obviously I know it was an adaption, but I actually liked that one. Unfortunately we don't always get the story like we originally hear or see it, sometimes the changes are good, bad, or indifferent. In this case I've heard lots of comments for the wave, and others who wished it had stayed true to the avatar turning into the water spirit.
@brandonthomas78 Mate Take my word for it when i say this film is terrible Incomparison to the Cartoon series. The series Is fantastic You should check it out :D

The OST of this movie is one of the best movie themes with oriental elements I've ever heard.
