  • The problem with the Addams Family, while more intellectual, the family never left the house! The Munsters on the other hand got out in the world. They went to the bank, the doctor's office, the country club, a drag race, the beach, a camping trip, a fashion show, took jobs at a shipping yard and even flew to Washington DC on a 707, etc, etc... Far more entertaining!

  • "The Addams Family" was great, Morticia was hot, and Gomez was suave, but my heart belongs to Lily Munster and my empty head belongs to Herman!

  • I LOVED the Munsters!!! I remember coming home from school and watching it everyday; never missed an episode! I'm 44 and am trying to explain this to my 14 year old son!

  • Judging by the closing credits, I think this is from the final first-run episode, where Pat Woodell, who'd left Petticoat Junction the previous year (as the original Bobbie Jo) played Eddie's schoolteacher.

  • Thank you for posting the complete opening and closing credits

  • This show was SO much better than the Addams family. And the theme music from season 2 rocked compared to the first!

  • That's the opening of TreeHouse of Horror XI

  • Lily reminds of Amy Lee :D

  • The Munsters are dope!

  • @ :08, Herman says,"Eh, feck it!" CLASSIC!

  • one of the best tv shows made, it sucks that it only lasted 2 seasons. and why The Addams family surpassed the munsters, I will never understand

  • In Dallas, there's a main street named Mockingbird Lne. But no address for 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

  • HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-o-WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!

and stylish as well. i love them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was 6 years young and this was my favourite tv-show!!!!

cheers to you for this upload!!!!!!

and it shows...you don´t need millions to create a classic!!!!

  • Wow this is my favorite "Munsters" intro. Can listen to this all day long. I always wondered where they were all going? Wherever they are going Lily is hoping for rain...................

  • this is so stupid lol

who ever is reading this is a piece of shit

  • hmm , the credits say it was technicolor processing there . was this flim was in color then it went to lets say ?b&w there interesting ? chk out my songs ..

  • In one of the Simpson's Halloween specials, they do a take off on the Munster's 2nd season opening, and it's very well done. Homer crashes through the door ala Herman, etc. The funniest bit is at the end, when a normally dressed Lisa come through the door as the "Marilyn" character, and she's holding a textbook that says, "Copyright Law."

  • Much better show opening than season 1. I love the cars, and the Munster's house. Look at the chimney...smoke is always just BOILING out, as if some sinister mischief is being cooked up somewhere inside. Grandpa's car, which was seldom seen in the show itself, is called "Dragula." It and the Munster Koach were made by legendary custom car designer George Barris.

  • And Spot as Himself.

  • i Boned yvonne de carlo!

  • Didn't Al Lewis run for governor of CA?

  • @MaxxUS08 No New York on the Green Party.

  • Marilyn >Wednesday

  • OMFG! Billy the Exterminator totally ripped this off.

  • brilliant dont make em like this anymore xxxx

  • Good ole' 60s. Period.

  • This was from the last episode

  • This was from the very last episode

  • This has got to be THE coolest theme song for a TV show EVER! (Yes, it even beats "Cheers")

  • they reaily raced those cars on drag strips across the country during intermission breaks get some 1960 hotrod magazine and you will see what i am talking about.

  • Used to watch this EVERY morning before school while eating my fruity pebbles

  • I love how Marilyn was considered the ugly freak of the family...but they still love her like their own. haha

  • That was great:)

  • Pop music makers of today would learn a LOT as to how to write GOOD music, if they listened to this opening theme music...

  • I always wanted the bat necklace that Lily was wearing. Finally got one courtesy of Torrid!! Whoo Hoooo!

  • Da piccolo preferivo 1000 volte i mostri alla famiglia addams

  • I loved this show so much better than the Addams family: Herman and Lily as the devoted and loving married couple, Grandpa as the lovable eccentric, Eddie as a mischievous but well-behaved little boy, and Marilyn... poor Marilyn, she was the "weird" one but they loved her anyway. :)

  • A hot-rod hearse and a hot-rod coffin. I never noticed that the second car is a coffin hot-rod driven by Grandpa.

  • Wow! If you look carefully (0.05), you'll see that poor Fred Gwynne came within a hair of severely twisting & possibly breaking his right ankle when he came crashing through the door. Now there was a man who was willing to suffer for his craft.

  • I'd probably take Marilyn for a relationship, but definitely Lily for a one-night stand.

  • dude, i knew that, i was just trying to be funny

  • LOL!!

    i guess they did

  • i have a hopefully though provoking question, if lily is a lady vampire and herman is a frankenstein monster, why is eddie a werewolf(or at least mostly werewolf)? HMMM?

i think lily has some explaining to do

  • @slimmdogg2968 Lily and Herman took their honeymoon in London! :)

  • Comment removed

  • @slimmdogg2968 Lily has some werewolf blood too, in fact Lily's brother was a werewolf.

  • oh herman.....

  • One of my favorite lines from this show was when Eddie said, "Hey, Mom, Grandpa's in the paper," and Lily says, "Oh no, not in the obituaries again!" That and Herman's laugh used to crack me up!

  • Marilyn Is Lilly's niece!!! I wish they would've shown what her parents looked like!!! If her mother was normal, then Grandpa has some 'splanin' to do!!! ;oP

  • @digga2552 Marilyn's father is Dr Jekyll.

  • I like what Lily does at 0:20.

  • If I could only watch 10 TV sitcoms for the rest of my life, the Munsters would be one of them!

  • Your right, I'm so glad I found this video. This theme music is the best from the first.

I can't stop playing it over and over...I'm addicted! Great old show!

  • The Munster house is still used on Wisteria Lane in Desperate Housewives.

You can recognise the roof structure easily.

  • I like what Lily does at 1:25

  • Best TV theme ever.

  • Herman's giggle is hilarious..

  • I don't know if it's still in the works, but a few years ago, there were talks of a "Munsters" movie, that would be written, and directed by Keenan Ivory, Shawn, and Marlon Wayans!!!

  • @MrJP75 Just what we need, a black Munsters. Didnt we learn from the black Honeymooners?

  • This theme was well written, enthusiastically performed, and captured the 60's sound and hilarity of the show perfectly. One one the top greatest TV show themes for sure. Green Acres is up there too.

  • the adams family never had bad ass hotrods like the munsters.

  • love how surfy second season's version is! Huge sign of the times!

  • One of the greatest pieces of recorded music ever, right along with the one for Hawaii 5-0. Man, those 60s TV shows couldn't be beat for their theme songs!

  • Grandpa's Eyebrows were arched to the GAWDS

  • Man, those Munster Hot Rods are so Bad Ass....I wish I could Win the Lottery and get one of them.

  • @EvilFingers

YES, YOU ARE SO CORRECT, The grandpa mobile was cool, HOWEVER, HERMAN'S was the best. NASCAR had nothing against that thing ;-)

  • this fred and all at there best

  • To be a kid in the 60's again! The music is classic!

  • Groovy 60's music oh to be a kid again!

  • My favorite show of the 60s:)

  • Flashback

  • Herman and Grandpa where the best not to mention the funniest

  • This was a great classic TV show from the 1960s. It would really be cool if there were to be a classic marathon of this show on Halloween.

  • @Wolf251982

There is a Munsters marathon on The Hallmark Channel today!

  • I met Al Lewis once when I was little no joke he was a real fun person may he R.I.P.

  • ive often wondered was lily meant to be a vampire or a zombie. i will probable get some sarcastic reply for this lol im stupid i know

  • @drwhotvwam I think shes a vampire her dad was Dracula so yes

  • @danbroad9 And yet for some unexplained reason, their son is a werewolf. Hmm, maybe it's best if we don't think about it too hard. :-p

  • @danbroad9 thanks :)

  • @drwhotvwam I think she's supposed to have been made as the bride of Frankenstein. So it kinda makes sense that she's married to Herman since he's Frankenstein's monster and Lily is the bride of Frankenstein.

    Hope this helps drwhotvwam. :)

  • @MyKari2009 it does thank you :) another mystery solved lol. happy new year :)

  • @drwhotvwam no problem, glad to help out ^_^. Have a great 2011!

  • @MyKari2009 Lily is Grandpa's daughter so that makes her a vampire too.

  • In seson 1 and 2 I love the twidly part at 0:17

  • I think the thing I really appreciate about The Munsters over the Addams is that despite being Monsters, the Munsters are a normal family that loves each other and shows sweetness and concern for each other while the Addams' are kind of remote and creepy with each other. Ultimately I like both shows.

  • I never realized how much of a surf song this theme is.

  • OK...who here among us who ever picked up a guitar tried to play the Munster's theme song?? You know you did! We ALL did! If I had a guitar handy, I would roll this video and plink-plink-plink along...especially the slide!

  • The Musters kicked the Addams Family's BUTT! The Addamses were eccentric, but I wanted to BE the Munsters. Their house rocked; they had a dragon under the steps, they had a kickass car...and their theme song rocked!

  • Isn't this from the last episode? I remember Pat Woodall (Petticoat Junction) played Eddie's teacher.

  • I love how Herman smashes the door down, looks at it, and then he's like ..""F*CK IT" ,,,laughs and keeps walking !! And then Lily looks from left to right in perfect time to the music !! LMAO

  • Eddie laid down a bunt.

  • Grandpa!!!

  • @AtariGuy666 My friend and I met Al Lewis back in the 80's when he owned a restaurant in Greenwich Village. He came over and lit my friend's cigarette. He was a really nice guy.

  • @Spartacus217 Cool story!

  • definatly better than the addams family by billions of miles, fantastic stuff! :D

  • I loved this show.. I was born in 1982, and didn't get to see this show until 1989 or 1990, and I remember I thought Lilly was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.. I still do, she was so pretty.. I still like her today lol..

  • Excellent.

  • When I was a young li'l bastard in the late '60s I wouldn't eat Muenster cheese because I thought they melted Herman down (the reason the shows were no longer made) and was grossed out by the prospect of finding his neck bolts in my sandwich.

  • @reprobacious LMAO!

  • you my friend did too too much what ever you took..

    but umm..

can you get me some of it???

    : ) ) )

  • Was this ED'd a bit to punch up the bass drum? Or is this actually the way it sounds from DVD? Either way, it sounds excellent! Surprisingly good frequency response.

  • @FlingsPooAtTheZoo I have the DVD sets and yes, it sounds like this with the bass punched up a bit. Does sound good, doesn't it!

  • I could probably look this up, but I'm curious when this ran on CBS originally, what night and time slot was it in, and what show(s) were it's competition?

  • @Dimension150 1964-1965 and 1965-1966. I'm not sure about the competition on a weekly basis, but the first-ever airing of 'A Charlie Brown Christmas,' on December 9th, 1965, pre-empted the Munsters..........

  • I used to get called Herman at school! Ah happy days..... :-?

  • @MrAnglomania I don't mean any offense by asking, but because of looks or intellect? :-)

  • @reprobacious Looks AND height! I was that 6 foot tall teenager experiencing difficulties fitting in....but you should see me now, ha!!!

  • The 2nd season Theme is a lot better then the 1st season theme, plus I liked the @nd season Marilyn Pat Priest she was the more beautifull of the two Marilyn's.

  • i loved this show as a kid. it was always being re run back in the early 90s on tv here in ireland. i was porobably only about 6 but i can remember laughing my ass off watching this. goes to show how much of a timeless show the munsters is. its still just as funny now as it ever was. brings back some good memories.

  • This is the Season 2 opening credits and it's the best. Heramn bursting through the door and Eddie with his bat. The theme music sounds a lot better, really more like dance music of the mid 60's. You can literally dance to this. Great show, great memories. Classic TV when TV was better!

  • i love the munsters

  • I used to love The Munsters. Does anyone know where I can watch full episodes online of the show?

  • 5 episodes in latin spanish language on 1 dvd , people interest contact me

  • The Addams family is very cool... BUT the Munsters are BADASS!!!

  • Comment removed

  • AWESOME JAM LOL

  • i could be dancing to this one in a go-go cage:)

  • I've been to Al Lewis's restaurant in New York for my mom's birthday. Grandpa Munster kissed my mom on the cheek. :)

  • Yes -one of the best themes ever !!!!.

  • @1Bandit455 A fellow TA fan?

  • @reprobacious - yes - I 've owned several ie. a 74 SD455 T/A etc. .

  • The Munsters' second season theme is the best television theme song ever. Ever.

  • @joseph60us You know, that would make an interesting contest: Best TVshow Theme Song of all time. You could even break it down into sub catagories. Balads, Instrumentals, Action, Scifi..

  • @Nash1a I agree! Fantastic idea! I vote for The Munsters second season for instrumentals......

  • Agree, love the song.

  • @joseph60us

    like the surf music feel

  • The Munsters were a HELL of a lot funnier than the Addams Family. The AF had some amusing moments, but the Munsters were laugh out loud funny, especially Herman and Grandpa.

  • @MisterMasterShafter You know, I never thought about that. The Adams Family relied on silly little 'bits' of humor almost like Family Guy does now; one cheesy little site gag after another. Rarely did either show give you a good solid laugh. The Munsters seemed so much more real to me. The situations had more depth to them. Maybe it was the acting or the writing or just better directing.

  • @Nash1a I think you're exactly right on. A nice analysis of The Munsters and AF, and a great analogy between AF and Family Guy. It's why I also think South Park and The Simpsons both kick ass all over FG, like The Munsters do over AF.

  • @Nash1a i agree....the munsters were heads and shoulders above the adams family

  • @MisterMasterShafter Agree. I never really like the AF. I remember the episode where Herman is trying to be a big singer and Grandpa gives him something that makes his voice sound real high pitched. The one where Grandpa is making electricity is hilarious too!

  • @bybeert Yeah, most of them were great. I like the one when Eddie brags how Herman's a great drag racer, so Herman's conned into a drag race and loses the Munster car, then Grandpa has to win it back. And the one where Herman's on a diet and can't take it anymore, so he lurks around the neighborhood looking into neighbors' windows until he finds a family eating a big turkey dinner, and he breaks in to get some. LOL

  • @MisterMasterShafter yes!! some of the stuff they did was awesome..remember one episode...when herman was breaking through the floor on a tantrum and grandpa goes to go down stairs and lily says to him..where are you going...grand pa says...down to the basement herman will be there in a minute!! LMAO

  • @DartsRme312 Yeah, that's a great Munster moment. Herman's just a big kid - who happens to be a Frankenstein with super strength. LOL I like the one where Herman goes out looking for Spot in the sewers, then he's seen there and they think Herman's a monster, of course. And also the one where Herman and Grandpa build Eddie a go cart and Herman wrecks it. I love that one.

  • @MisterMasterShafter Definitely! I'll never understand why the Addam's Family was more popular.

  • @batosai370 Was AF more popular? I've never seen the ratings, but both shows went for two years, and I've seen the Munsters a lot more in syndication than I have AF.

  • @MisterMasterShafter The Munsters was more popular than AF during their initial runs - in their first season, the former show placed in the top 20 of the Nielsens while AF could only muster #24. However, in the middle of the second season, on January 12, 1966, ABC debuted a new series that aired at the 7:30 pm time slot on both Wednesday and Thursday nights: Batman. The Thursday night airing of Batman would place at #5 for the season and spelled virtual doom for The Munsters, which died in May.

  • @jsrosa1282 Thanks for the info. I knew that The Munsters were canceled to make room for Batman which was taking off, but I never knew how The Munsters ratings fared compared to the AF, which was on over the exact same time period. 1964-66. I would think The Munsters would be more popular, for the same reason it's been more in reruns. It's funnier and better.

  • @MisterMasterShafter your damn right!

  • @MisterMasterShafter thanks commpadre and amen.

  • Herman Monster reminds me of myself i act jusst like him except Iam not as tall as him

  • I love this show it was so much more funny the nthe adams family. Its sad that most of these actors are no long with us today.

  • I totaly agree with you I also think this show was funnier than the adams family

  • And yet this show only lasted 2 seasons what a mixed up world we live in where a less funny show can run longer.

  • I agree Man Its Funny how they get rid of all the funny shows yet they bring back the stupid once who arent even worht watching

  • @Socoolscienceshow And be more well known.

  • I loved Yvonne DeCarlo! She was so good in this! Along with Silent Scream and American Gothic! A true actress. Great show!

  • I KNEW AL LEWIS AND SOME TIMES HAD A DRINK OR TWO 'ROUND 1978-1982 OR 3 he was cool there's was a bar called the fat black pussy cat at least i think that it was called that i'am close any how...

  • Did we have "The Program Exchange" logo from around 1991 or 1992?

  • I loved the show and I think it was great they dressed up Herman to resemble the Universal 1930's Frankenstien Monster that Boris Karloff played.

  • I always used to think that house was so cool, still do.

  • LOVED THIS SHOW WHEN I WAS A KID!!!!

  • todo un clasico de los 60's ...

  • In the closing credits it states Processing..TECHNICOLOR CORPORATION.This was added in the credits as a plan for the show producers to have The Munsters in color for it's proposed 3rd season. But CBS cancelled the show.

  • A third season in color would have been groovy, and very similar to "Munster, Go Home" I'm sure........

  • A book about the Munsters said they made "Munster Go Home" to raise money for a third season.

  • What the hell, what was wrong with season 1's intro?????

Oh well no matter what the intro, the show is still superior that sorry knock-off they call Addams Family

  • I think that at the University Studio Lot, the Munsters and the Cleavers house were actually next to each other.

  • I believe you are right. I know the Munster house was originally a bit smaller and simpler. They added some structure to the top and enlarged the turret.

  • @Wellch "University Studio lot" LOL!

I think you meant "Universal Studio lot".

And yes, I think they are.

  • @visor109 ---guess I was half asleep when I wrote that. :-)

  • @Wellch Well there goes the neighborhood... Almost as weird, Darrin & Samantha Stephens "shared" the same house (exterior, anyway) as Dr. & Amanda Bellows, despite Bewitched being an ABC show and IDOJ being NBC.

  • Hey! No MCA-TV bug!

  • One time I heard an anoucer say the Munsters on WLD in chicago, but it was cut off though and they never had it again.

  • WFLD

  • The anouncer was from the network. The one from WFLD was always left on there though. All it said was the name of the show, so it must have been cut off in middle. Maybe it would have said what the sponser was.

  • @britfrenir I meant WFLD.

  • there making a movie of this

  • they already did.
