Technically GTA is free-roaming but not as serious as real sandbox games. For example The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion or V Skyrim (I know skyrim was not released when this vid was uploaded but still) In those too you can almost go inside all houses in the games which is more fun and you can actually murder someone with a name. You can join guilds all, that is true Sandbox (Fallout 3 and NV are good games as well.

Sandboxes is where you go from point a to point b around open environments. An open world game is not a sandbox

Read it and you'll see. The Elder scrolls technically you do pick a class but it is not like a class because you can use weapon and armor in the games anyways, you just choose what you want to be more skilled in, and in Fallout you do not pick a class.
