@crorrfreefly .........They did it that way so it wouldn't be so sad. The song is upbeat and makes you feel good while the mood of the scene are are sad and depressing. The uplifting song balances the mood and allows you to leave the scene without too much sadness. That's why the last thing scene is of Josh saying "Thanks, boss."
I love this show. John Spencers' tragic passing was very sad. As usual the writers and actors did a fantastic job in portraying both Leo and John in Requiem. So very sad! Mr. Spencer was a magnificent actor who will be missed!

Who's the girl crying? Everyone dies..... Only thing guaranteed to everyone.... My grandfather died last month it happens & my friend died when we were 9 of cancer & inbetween friends & family have passed for many reasons why do people choose to not understand or accept that fact.
Do you mean the lady that tells Josh that Leo died? If so, that is Annabelle who takes over as Press Sec. when Toby leaves and then joins the campaign and works very closely with Leo on the Trail.
For all those who criticize the choice of the song, I remember that it is in the episode the Santos-Mc Garry theme song when Santos secures the decisive victory.
yea i agree i have seen a bunch of videos including the "for good" tribute to John Spencer this is a terrible version. The music is so upbeat and fast for such a terrible tragedy.
thanks for that. Reference the music. The song is about the beauty of life and the changes we can make. Listen to the lyrics and not just the title. It is U2 after all.
I think the song works perfectly, I love it. My favorite part it with all the faces of all the people who just adored Leo and came to be there. I totally would've gone, if I lived in West Wing world, or if West Wing was real...
thanks... Im not very bright and seeing as I've only watched season 1 and season 6 I think Im a little behind lol... Is there any chance you can send some clips of the episodes and stuff?
i started crying at the previews of this episode i balled all the way thru

@joshhollowayblogs
It is not Annabelle the characters name was Annabeth and was played by Kristin Chenoweth.

Good Song, Good series, but they certainly don't work together!

I loved Leo. I cant help what the end of series would have been like, had Mr Spencer lived to finish it.

I'm sorry to be rude but are you a moron?
Put another way:
I'm not so sure we should be marrying the phrases "Leo's dead, Leo's dead" and "It's a beautiful day."
floit 4 years ago
I love U2 but a different song may have suited this scene better.

Umm if oyu must use U2, use with our wihtout you.

Heartbreaking, beautiful. I agree that the best (and saddest) part was all of the people at the funeral who loved Leo.

Very good collection. Not sure I would have chosen 'Beautiful Day' for the scenes where they hear about Leo's death though. Still good though.
