  • This is how to play piano.

  • I'd give my right hand to play like Jools or Fats!

  • Priceless.

  • Fantastic.... i love this song..

  • Absolutely priceless. Jools can get himself a ring now.

  • What a lovely man Fats was!

  • @whereangelsplay1 Was? Is

  • I love the way that Fats obviously just thought that Jools was some random reporter and had no idea he could actually play. The look on his face is priceless

  • Playing it in C#major too! Wow. Brilliant pair of pianists - just the best. Loved this programme and I have it all on Video, somewhere. Can never get tired of watching this.

  • U dont see musicians getting to gether like this no more

  • what a load of typical JH superficial b/s - but which thankfully couldn`t overshadow the great "Fats"

  • Thank you so much for your kind response.

Regrettably, I am not equipped to converse further with you at the superior intellectual level which you clearly inhabit.

PS You effing s**th*ad: if you can actually figure o-t these blanks, can y-u?

PPS Try to consider an alternative viewpoint without getting personal (and to a stranger at that) - I was sharp but not really insulting to your , apparently precious, JH

  • @nikkeljoe I agree with him. He comes across as an annoying tosser. I know he is a great pianist but in this instance he comes across as a wanker.

  • I can't believe Fats told Jools not to forget him. How could anyone forget the legend that is Fats Domino?

  • awesome...love it!

  • Fats loves nothing more than playing. You can see it in his face at 01:15

  • that is the best thing I've ever seen

  • Fats rings sums up the whole video..awesome

  • This is very, very sweet.

  • I was smiling all the time when I was seeing them playing

  • @3kekseund1loch yeah that was a great clip. makes one happy.

  • This video never fails to put a smile on my face :)

  • I remember the start of this interview and Mr Domino was not interested in Jools interviewing him at all. Then, when he realised Jools could play, the whole thing changed; the lights came on and then we got this! FAB

  • LOVE the fact that it looks almost as if Fats doesn't know that Jools can play

  • This is so f... cool. I wish it was me sitting there playing piano with a true legend.

  • This is so f... cool. I wish it was me sitting there playing piano with a true legend.

  • 2 idiots lost the plot

  • i fancy a dominos now

  • Yeah used to have this on beta max video but loooong gone now. Have not seen this since the 80's

  • Fats Domino = god

  • Hai Ther.

I 've got that video from BBC TV.

    Contact : clahnstein@versatel.nl

  • Wow!!!!! This is fantastic!

  • The Master and his disciple!! Simply Brilliant bit of TV.

I saw this when it was first shown some 20 odd years ago! It's still brilliant!

  • Hi nikkeljoe can you put me out my misery and tell me where ya got ya copy of the whole Walking to New Orleans program of if anyone else can help me would be grateful.

    Many thanks

    dizzy

  • What An Honor To meet Mr.Domino.

  • old memories

  • Fats....look at that face! He really loves what he is doing, that is one reason he is so great! I've been a fan since the '50's. Long live Fats!!

  • That's wonderful!!

  • That is wonderful.

  • I Loved this documentary so much...where can I get ahold of it??

  • The last two minutes are unbeatable

  • but his piano ring on pinky is genial :D

  • everytime i watch this vid a big smile spreads across my face. love it.

  • This must be one of the greatest highlights of Jools Holland's life!!

  • World class. It's like two children stealing ice cream!

  • Jool's face,he's like 'omg i'm playing with fats domino' what a couple of talents

  • My dad learnt a boogie bass from Fats and taught it to Jools before he was famous.

  • @jennaofthecuckooclan That is pretty damn cool

  • so nice to see two musicians getting such joy from playing together

  • This is such a great clip and Fats was genuinely proud of Jools!! What a great man Fats Domino is!!! 2 great piano players!

  • Fat's Domino Survived and Lived Through Katrina -God Is Watching Over Him ,God Bless Him .

  • you can tell jools is in awe of fats domino, always thought fats was the best. his longevity proves it, still rockin' after all these years.

  • unreal

  • This is awesome : )

  • Do you still have a DVD copy of this? Would be really interested in getting it!

  • I commented on this once before and I feel I have to again. How truly wonderful, especially to see Fat's face when he realises Jools can play like the best of 'em. The big smile that comes to his face when Jools starts to play is just beautiful and at the end when they both show such respect for each other. Magical, just the way music should be. Excellent upload bro', thank you so much. Peace.

  • @Hania454 I agree with you in most of what you say, but Jools are not "the best best of´em" ! Fats is the no. one pianoman in R&R, bether than Little R, Ray C. and Jerry Lee ! Ask Paul McCartney, Billy Joel and Elton John .

  • @gullhjertet Lol no I would say Jools is a much better pianist than Fats, and I love Fats!

  • @rockermanmatt your kidding right? What Jools was doing was pretty good but anyone whose played for a year or two can do it no problem plus he was a little sloppy. Fats' playing even right there with one hand just messing around was so clean tight and flashy it was amazing. Night and day man + fats is an innovator

  • @juvenal660 Lol. I think you need to check out Jools a bit more man. Maybe watch him playing Bumble Boogie or the video in the side "Four-hands boogie woogie" with Dr. John.

Fats is nowhere near Jools in terms of piano playing. You said "anyone" can play what Jools played which is true, because it's Fat's song - what he played with his right hand is easy too if you've played boogie woogie for a few years.

  • @rockermanmatt But then you obviously don't have a clue about music, do you?

  • @ivancarling Yes I do, and I can tell that Jools Holland is a far better all round pianist than Fats. Fats is great and a massive influence but that doesn't mean there aren't much better pianists.

  • 2 legends in action!

  • AWSOME CLIP THANKS .........

  • met fats in dublin concert 1974 he made me try on his diamonds what a thrill he sang blue berry hill especially for me and made me take a bow . never met anyone who does not like fats he is simply the greatest and a very modest and true gentleman .i fulfilled my ambition by being given the chance to meet fats will never forget this till the day i die ....fats number one fan.

  • good bless wee jools i swear he had a mini orgasm there...two great players

  • thats really good stuff. wicked!

  • great document, isn't there much more?

  • Happy 81st MR Domino - may your years be as wonderful to u as the minutes I spent talking to you at Tips were to me. Be blessed, as you are such a blessing yo us. Josephine sends BIG purrs.

  • you got it :D

  • Fats triplets are the greatest ...they never sound redundant.

  • when was this, about 20 years ago?

  • He makes me smile :)

  • Fats Domino.. What a great voice and piano style.. I love him!

  • Fats Domino!! No one like him.. What a great voice and piano style. I love him!

  • That's not true!

    I like him ;)

  • Great!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I saw it when first broadcast and have a recording somewhere that I cannot find. If I find it I will try to contact those people who have left enquiries below. SPUNKYBLUNDERBUS who has posted below sums up my feelings about this clip precisely.

  • I'd Love to meet him also and i'd love to play with him

  • I´m Soooooh jelous of Jools... to play with a ledgend like that huh...That that cubby little man started the Rock´n´Roll era. I´d like to meet him =)

  • thanks for posting this.

i've only discovered about the awesome jools recently, and this video is really great.

to see young jools with the legend, fats domino.

    it a rare one!

  • That was a treat.

  • oh, this is truly wonderful. :) :) :)

  • Wow, Jools in this video sounds like "Dud" from

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's "Pete and Dud"

  • I recorded this Channel 4 programme onto VHS tape in 1985 and thought it was one of the best pieces of TV Jools ever did. Alas, I left the tape behind when I divorced in 1997 and would love a copy on tape or DVD.

  • What a touching video - ahhhh I always like mutual respect between artists.

\m/ (I'm being sincere, not sarcastic)

  • c dats a real musician teachin others how to do things n secrets of the art takin da time out

  • I managed to get a copy of the full 74 minute show. Just great Jools and cast including Lee Dorsey, Allen Tousant, Dr John, Neville Bros, Luther Kent, Sting, Robie Coltrane, Paula Yates. Mind you cost me both arms and legs.

  • FATS DOMINO WAS A MONSTER!!!

    Gone too early imo...

  • Gone? As far as I know he is still alive!

  • Thank you, I'm wrong.

  • Why have I never found this before??????? So bloody awesome, two legends together! Mind you, Jools comes across as a proper cockney yob in his earlier years lol. Thanks SO SO much for posting!!!

  • love it love it love it .

  • Does anyone have a copy of the whole Walking to New Orleans program ? It was brilliant. I had a copy but lost it in a fire. BTW, saw him at Sydney Opera House on Friday night. A fantastic night out.

  • yes i have the whole thing!

  • @nikkeljoe Upload it - please...

  • the end min or so was truely amazing

  • I searched for this clip on the off chance, after reading Jools' autobiography....what an amazing clip!! The interview portion is rubbish, but when Jools starts playing with Fats the mutual respect is obvious!! Im Ready is just fantastic.

  • I love it! i went to see Fats Domino, in London a couple of months after this was film - fantastic !! also you should read about this meeting between Jools and Fats in Jools Holland's Autobiography 'Barefaced Lies & Boogie-Woogie Boasts.' The chapter is called 'Walking to New Orleans.' Absolulely hilarious.

  • why didn't we see more of that!!! Fantastic indeed. Hope Jools meets Fats again or give him some extra attention one of these days.

  • i just missed the first bit when taping it back in the 80's. this is all that was broadcast unfortunately though, it was a documentary where jools went all over new orleans. glad you enjoyed.

    Nick

  • OK, but thanks for the effort to put this clip on YouYube

    Hans
