and what about showing how to park between two cars???? In this situation, when there are no cars behind the spot, it's not necessary to backup into it, you can park there just driving up, when approach...
I passed my test Yesterday..Just Do well and Pray to God for His help not only before the test also during the test He surely helps...Best of Luck to everyone.!!!
@tompinckney You´re allowed to drive with one hand when you are parking. You´re supposed to have the other hand behind the passager seet and look out the rear-window.
1. Drive up parallel to the car you wish to park behind (ideally have 1.5 car lengths behind).
2. Check all clear and reverse until the rear corner of the car (you are parking behind) can be seen through the rear side window of your car (look over your shoulder, not just relying on mirrors to ensure blind spots are clear!)
3. when your rear window view lines up with rear corner of the car, make 1 steering turn towards the direction of the space (right in the case of this video).
Another good thing to remember is to leave your right signal on. It's a good way to communicate to any drivers behind you that you're trying to parallel park. Some people see your reverse lights, and they still don't understand what you're doing, but leaving your signal on could help. It's just a suggestion.
@Seithos45 actually, when I was taught to drive/turn with a driving school, they would yell at me unless i did hand over hand, so yeah, it is recommended
@Skate4life12396 i guess its because in case you had a accident the air bag wouldent go off propely because your arms would be crossed where has if you arms did not cross each other it would go off
Where I live, the drivers are way better and more skilful, for our drivers licence (all has to be in a manual car) test we have to parallel park with-in 5 seconds on a main busy road and your lucky if you don't have to do it on a steep hill
@TheEternalExodus i live in new york city and i have never seen a stick shift in my life. ive seen it on tv and in pics, but have never actually seen one in person
@halflife103 If you pass your test driver in an Automatic in The US, does that mean that your eligible to driver Manual cars aswell, or is it only an automatic type licence......?
I don't even know how to drive and I could do this better! All I've done is driven a car forwards when I was sixteen... I don't have my license though. x.x
@ph03n1xcanada let me rephrase that, no one can shift in .10 of a second, but my shifts, well i cannot say that i am above average, but im not really slow, and i dnt try to be fast all the time un less i want to get up to speed when getting on the turnpike/highway. you know what i mean? just saying everyone has their preferences, and mine would be the 6speed manual, i just love the feel of driving a stick, oh and this may be wierd to you, im American and i love manual? rare isnt it? haha lol.
@Ulfar22 I failed but not because of the parking. Appearantley I rolled 4 of the 5 stop signs. I definitely stopped completely at each stop sign. I like to know what rolling a stop sign means.
@AtlantaSportsFan I've heard that you should wait for at least 3 'Mississippis' at each stop sign on a test, maybe you didn't wait long enough? I don't know, but the best of luck to you, mate.
Get as close to the other car as you can. Get your wheels lined up with the other car's. Hammer your wheel all the way to the right and begin to back up. Once your car is in a 45 degree angle, straighten out your wheel and back up more until your front wheels clear the other car's rear bumper. Hammer the wheel all the way to the left and back up into your spot. The closer you are from the get-go, the better. Especially when parking in a tight spot.
@CJEzekiel116 When you are lined up perfectly with the other car, you turn the wheel all the way to the right and than back up or back up while turning to the right?
@AtlantaSportsFan The more your wheels are turned right, the sharper the turn, it doesn't really matter, so as long as you don't do it too sharp or you will hit the car on your side
@volcom798 Perhaps but I think advice should (esepcially for important things like driving) be given as professionally as possible... Can't be giving people 'half good' advice can we???
Haha, well that valid i guess. When i got my license the other day they wouldn't let me smile in the picture because "you are not going to be smiling when the police pull you over." I thought it was pretty funny.
i've been driving with an NJ permit for about 3 months now and my instructor told me when im parking that the center piller of my car should be aligned with the back of a parked car and i want to know which is better and faster my instructors way or your way of aligning the back wheel to the back of the other car....thnx
hey i'm going for my driving test in a few days. the drivers license book says that you have to have one hand on the wheel and one on the passenger seat head rest when backing up or parallel parking. so how do I turn the wheel without palming it? cause don't they fail you if you palm the steering wheel?
haha you dont even know what i am talking so its not lame advice. when your back wheel touch the side walk the car is making an almost 75º ancle with the side walk and then when you turn the wheel and continue backwards the wheel is stop touching the side walk any more and is only some cm away from it.
try it 1st blame it after thanks
if you try it and cant do ask for any part you dont understand
oooh... 75 degree angle.. i was thinking something about 45 ... 75 is a pretty steep angle .... hmm... i'll remember to try it :) - in a few days (though, from the angle, it seems that you will do some road blocking - heh) ... you should do a video.. it sounds a bit complicated ....
Thanks for posting this. I take my road test tomorrow and I suck at parallel parking. That is all I am worried about. Anyway, this video helped a lot and hopefully I'll pass.
Well, actually, a bunch of stuff happened at the test site involving the car I brought. My mom's car battery died at the site, so we had to get a jump. I'm taking it October 7th
First off, at standstill, the tyres are cool. The coefficient of friction is lower. Think of a fast-moving car. Even in a straight line the tyres wear out faster than if you were to sit still all day turning back and forth on the spot.
Why would you refer only to the BMW as a 3 series? It must be a 316i then. Besides, M6 is the way to go if you want to run stock class. Prices start at $85500.
If you know proper parallel parking, then upload a video of the correct method.
drive up to the car and stop when the car his taillight gets in the position of the right corner of the rear right passengerwindow then turn your steering wheel 360° to the right and gently drive backwards until the taillight of the other car passes your doorlock and then simply and gently turn your steering wheel to the other side and youre in the easy way!
Thanks. I will pass next time I made stupid mistakes that can be avoided. Like forgetting to signal in a traffic circle, my uphill park, I didn't hit the curb, but know I know for next time, and I wont forget, so those wont be added next time.
Today is my first driving test. Practice this for 2 ½ hours last night, but I am only about 75% on it. I been nervous sick all day. I just really hope that I can pass this. I have bad judgement when I am half way back to start turning =/. Thanks for video though.
i understand that theyre pretty up tight about using a lot of caution. check your mirrors a lot too.... thats something people never told me.... till i failed
You weren't close enough to the curb. You could fail your test for this. 6 to 12 inches from the curb.

3. when your rear window view lines up with rear corner of the car, make 1 steering turn towards the direction of the space (right in the case of this video).
hmi1750 9 months ago
@hmi1750
4. Reverse slowly until your wing mirror (in this case right side) lines up with rear corner of car ahead.
5. keep reversing slowly (never steer without motion) and turn full lock (to left for this video).
6. The car will swing into the space.
7. start to undo the lock once the car is in space and it should be within 1ft of the kerb.
If the space is tighter and less room to reverse to straighten out, then take a sharper angle into the kerb and will need to shuffle back and forth.
hmi1750 9 months ago
@tompinckney It's not about how to pass the test, it's about how to parallel park after you pass a test :)
