Holy crap! A Greg video on the Fros page??? It can't be public, this must be a link only video because I found this while looking for flash info, not directly from the Fro channel.
Excellent!!! I've been having trouble with this gun. For some unknown reason to me the flash worked but I was left with either a black image or it was vastly underexposed. Nikon support was useless. But you cracked it. I wanted to try resetting but the manual was like Nikon support - useless. The manual didn't explain at all how to reset but you did and the flash is working as it should now. Cheers!
What about the red light that goes out from the front of the sb-900, where its writtend nikon spealight sb-900 theres a red light that suppose to pread out.. how do i turn it on?
Sb-700? I do have a question, for nikon cls system, how many flashes are you able to hook up wirelessly, i only see 2 groups, so does it mean I can only hook up 2 flashes?
I'd like to see recycle times with and w/o external power source. I'm also curious to see how quickly the flash overheats with continuous bursts. Thanks G-man.
@gregorycazillo yeah thats what i meant. i know u don't like the 1.8... i don't feel the same, although if i had the money id get a 1.4 t00. keep makin these awesome flash vids greg! \m/
This is great overview - thank you very much for sharing. I have just brought this flash as my first flash and the video helps a lot. Many thanks again.
Hi the perfect companion to it for wateresistant nikon bodies could be WG-AS1/2/3 : the wateresistant rubber hotshoe cover that protects the metal part of hotshoe from dust water and consumption
Greg, I hope you can explain how the +/- buttons on the flash interact with the +/- buttons on the camera in TTL mode - I have a hard time grasping this fully.
@kelvinharron Exactly! You know how to use it properly as well. I knew I wasn't the only one. I don't even have a camera with my flash! (Haha, jk, I really do.)
I am looking at getting my first flash, and i am wondering should i just spend the extra money and get the SB-900, or save a little and go for a lower one... if so which would be a good 2nd choice?
@jmstew0319 The SB-800 (or 600/700/900) fires BEFORE the shutter moves (at the time the foto is taken)
and doesnt affect the picture. The remote-flashes in a CLS-setup DOES fire while shutter is open, and that way becomes the light in the picture taken. All this is made VERY fast by the camera and flash, and its amazing to use and very simple for anyone at the TTL/BL-modes, both on and off-camera.
@Greg. Maybe and comparison between Nikon's CLS and your studioequipment-lighting-gear?
Is there a way to use NIKON flash system on a CANON body ? Because with those flashes NIKONS are the best! By some way I mean some adapter or converter or something like this. Thanks
@JDMediaArts They say they would if they had more equipment/received more to test from Canon. I guess it's understandable that they don't focus as much on Canon since they both use Nikon, but it would still be nice to see. Of course, even though I'm a Canon user, I still gain a lot of information from all of the videos, especially the ones on photo editing or setting up shots...which are generally applicable to all. Still, even the Nikon-focused ones can provide some valuable information for me.
My SB-900 gets overheated after ~50 shots with TTL flash for about 1-1,5 hours. That is not even 1 flash every minute. How to get around this problem? It also gets overheated when its +5 Celsius after about 40 images or something in about 15-20 minutes.
Mine has overheated while shooting models. haha Not a joke though. It was outside in the sun and it only took a few minutes to shut down. I shut off the protect feature and haven't had a problem since. Good video. I'm looking forward to a more in depth video though. This one is kind of for beginners.

Nikon did not include the manual.
It was unbelievably cheap...when I contacted Amazon they said there was a link to download the PDF...which I did.
148 pages on A4 sheets to print it.
After spending over £300 that is very poor from NIKON.
The manual is the poorest instructional book I've ever seen...totally incomprehensible unless you design rockets!
That's why I'm watching this tutorial.
Thank you for making it.

@gregorycazillo Interesting. Im was wondering because the SU-800 is not a flash and is still a commander. How does that work?
jmstew0319 11 months ago
@jmstew0319 The SB-800 (or 600/700/900) fires BEFORE the shutter moves (at the time the foto is taken)
