  • niece down-to-earth demo ... I don't read well now I have grasped what I need .... cheers

  • Thanks for the video! I appreciate the info!!!

  • Nikon did not include the manual.

It was unbelievably cheap...when I contacted Amazon they said there was a link to download the PDF...which I did.

148 pages on A4 sheets to print it.

After spending over £300 that is very poor from NIKON.

The manual is the poorest instructional book I've ever seen...totally incomprehensible unless you design rockets!

That's why I'm watching this tutorial.

    Thank you for making it.

  • Holy crap! A Greg video on the Fros page??? It can't be public, this must be a link only video because I found this while looking for flash info, not directly from the Fro channel.

  • why the screen on my sb900 is green and yours blue?

  • Excellent!!! I've been having trouble with this gun. For some unknown reason to me the flash worked but I was left with either a black image or it was vastly underexposed. Nikon support was useless. But you cracked it. I wanted to try resetting but the manual was like Nikon support - useless. The manual didn't explain at all how to reset but you did and the flash is working as it should now. Cheers!

  • dude, why do you say will do for the rest of the flashes when you dont ? :(

  • Is it possible to use Sb-900 full manual while retaining auto zoom?

  • A very good informative video. Thank you very much for sharing!

  • Sb-700? I do have a question, for nikon cls system, how many flashes are you able to hook up wirelessly, i only see 2 groups, so does it mean I can only hook up 2 flashes?

  • *sb 900, you need to get a remote

  • If you want to use the D5000 with an bs

  • ok we got ot,ypu shoot raw.

next time youll be using banners huh? :D

  • How about some more "general" stuff Canon users can use since there are more of us than you? Thanks for the info and hard work you do man.

  • Do one of the 580 ex (y)

  • I'd like to see recycle times with and w/o external power source. I'm also curious to see how quickly the flash overheats with continuous bursts. Thanks G-man.

  • @devilsmarbles That is going to vary with the power setting. As long as you are not 'spraying and praying' you will be just fine.

  • Heard that there are some overheat problem for the SB-900 which makes me turn my head to SB700 :(

  • @stevenlys I've had mine for 6 months and its never overheated. Just internet rumors.

  • Hey Greg what lens is on ur camera? is it a 20mm f/2.8? I have one of them. love it. I liked the vid too. very informative. \m/

  • @Acidrain1993 sorry i saw it better. i know its the 50mm 1.8 lol

  • @Acidrain1993 50 1.4.

  • @gregorycazillo yeah thats what i meant. i know u don't like the 1.8... i don't feel the same, although if i had the money id get a 1.4 t00. keep makin these awesome flash vids greg! \m/

  • Please do the SB-800 and 600. Those are the flashes I have.

  • What about Metz flashes? Nikon's are not only one on this planet lads!

  • cant get enough of jared and greg! niiice

  • Really cool video. I like the split screen!! Good one Greg :)

  • Great idea with double vision :)

  • @shess0501 AGREED.

  • @shess0501 I meant in terms of balancing the ambient light with the flash to make the background darker or lighter than the subject.

  • Great tutorial Greg. This flash has a bit to learn but easier after watching this.

  • This is great overview - thank you very much for sharing. I have just brought this flash as my first flash and the video helps a lot. Many thanks again.

  • Hi the perfect companion to it for wateresistant nikon bodies could be WG-AS1/2/3 : the wateresistant rubber hotshoe cover that protects the metal part of hotshoe from dust water and consumption

  • FINALY! you review an SB-900! thank you greg :)

  • When would I want to use aperture mode / auto not ttl mode?

    Great idea with these videos!

  • could you do a similar video for the R1C1 kit?

  • Greg, I hope you can explain how the +/- buttons on the flash interact with the +/- buttons on the camera in TTL mode - I have a hard time grasping this fully.

  • @noslen1968 Thats easy. On the body its changing the metering and overall exposure. On the flash its only affecting the flash output.

  • i want your hat greg

  • @greg hi! for d700 body what do you recommend sb700 or sb900 and why? ty

  • @Jepraw sb900 more power.

  • I'm liking the Nikon colours in this video.

  • 6:07 is that a fat joke?

  • im buying this Flash in April

  • @kelvinharron Exactly! You know how to use it properly as well. I knew I wasn't the only one. I don't even have a camera with my flash! (Haha, jk, I really do.)

  • Can I use SB900 with Canon 30D?

  • I need an iPhone with that manual. Does it come included?

  • My fav. function of the SB-900 is that it can blind dem fools that be trying to jack me tools. YA DIG?

  • I am looking at getting my first flash, and i am wondering should i just spend the extra money and get the SB-900, or save a little and go for a lower one... if so which would be a good 2nd choice?

Thanks again for the great videos

  • @afrodude01 If you can go with SB-700 & even SB-600. Both are very nice flash.. :)

  • @afrodude01 1. sb900 2. sb700, don't buy an 800 or 600 at this point because the newer ones are so much easier to use.

  • Does the cls system communicate with infrared light or some other wireless communication?

  • @jmstew0319 Not that I know of...it uses preflashes to fire other strobes.

  • @gregorycazillo Interesting. Im was wondering because the SU-800 is not a flash and is still a commander. How does that work?

  • @jmstew0319 The SB-800 (or 600/700/900) fires BEFORE the shutter moves (at the time the foto is taken)

and doesnt affect the picture. The remote-flashes in a CLS-setup DOES fire while shutter is open, and that way becomes the light in the picture taken. All this is made VERY fast by the camera and flash, and its amazing to use and very simple for anyone at the TTL/BL-modes, both on and off-camera.

@Greg. Maybe and comparison between Nikon's CLS and your studioequipment-lighting-gear?

  • Love it! keep em comming.Fro knows.............Thanx

  • Is there a way to use NIKON flash system on a CANON body ? Because with those flashes NIKONS are the best! By some way I mean some adapter or converter or something like this. Thanks

  • @D0SI Not that I know of... the firmware wouldn't work with the camera body.

  • cls ftw

  • You guys should make more Canon Tutorials & Reviews , But very informative btw .

  • @JDMediaArts They say they would if they had more equipment/received more to test from Canon. I guess it's understandable that they don't focus as much on Canon since they both use Nikon, but it would still be nice to see. Of course, even though I'm a Canon user, I still gain a lot of information from all of the videos, especially the ones on photo editing or setting up shots...which are generally applicable to all. Still, even the Nikon-focused ones can provide some valuable information for me.

  • i would like to see how you would set it up on off camera flash situations

  • Hey Greg do you shoot RAW or JPEG?

  • @EFRA2047 Not sure what do you think?

  • @gregorycazillo Sorry Greg just my strange British sense of humour. Great video by the way.

  • @EFRA2047 ;)

  • Looking to get the SB-700 to go along with my 600.

  • @eleventhphotograph I just got my 700 to go with my 600 last night. It's awesome :]

  • I got a SB 600 an love it! <3

  • 900 or 700? Already have 2 600's, and only need one more. What do you think?

  • @MrCronyn either one, both are great.

  • @gregorycazillo

    Cheers!

  • @MrCronyn

900 for the additional power. The 700 is actually a little less powerful than the 600. I use 1 SB900 and 2 SB 600's.

  • @ImageXPhoto

    Cheers! Thanks!

  • whats the name of the intro song? That solo is soo good

  • @lepermessiah01 Its custom music Nick Perri from Sinai

  • nice video. It will be great if you can make some videos with the Canon 430 EX II and 580 EX II. I am sure a lot of people will find it usefull.

  • Nice one Greg! Ive watched the channel grow from 500subscribers, and I love the way its going. Fantastic.

  • What are your thoughts on 3rd party flash guns?

  • My SB-900 gets overheated after ~50 shots with TTL flash for about 1-1,5 hours. That is not even 1 flash every minute. How to get around this problem? It also gets overheated when its +5 Celsius after about 40 images or something in about 15-20 minutes.

  • @heuykiller I never even gotten close to overheating mine. You should send it in and ask Nikon.

  • @gregorycazillo

Mine has overheated while shooting models. haha Not a joke though. It was outside in the sun and it only took a few minutes to shut down. I shut off the protect feature and haven't had a problem since. Good video. I'm looking forward to a more in depth video though. This one is kind of for beginners.

  • @heuykiller

You can go into your menu and turn off the the auto shut off feature.

  • SB-700 Please! :) Great review, thanks for everything. :D

  • been waiting for a good in depth info on the sb-900, nice one greg

  • Definitely do videos on the 600 and 800, a lot of us bought them either a while ago or recently for cheaper and would still like some instruction and tips on how to use them. They are still relevant and very used flashes.

  • will it work on canon dslr

  • @MrMnMahdi94 LOL no....unless you use it via pc cord or remotely.

  • sweet

  • Sweet ;D

  • great video , as always
