When it comes to hearing giant steps, the best way to go about is to walk through the progression yourself really slow and try to follow how the keys change. Studying the Coltrane matrix thing is a good idea, there's a great user by the name 'dragondix' who has a video on Giant Steps and then there's JustinSandercoe whose video "JA-030..." talks about this
man, i actually enjoy this arrangement, i don't... know it gives me different listening experience/feel... and actually that's the one that sticks to people's mind, at least that's what i think :)
alas the solo part is not as interesting as the "head" but still cool tho!
surprises and inspires me every time i hear him. nothing he can't do. frightening and profound in the (somehow) simplest way.
