@willpn100 Elvis was a singer not a writer, same as Sinatra, Caruso and Pavarotti... You dislike him because he didn't write his own material? On that bais, you can't like Tom Jones, Dianh Washington. Arethat Frankln, Ella fitzgerald , Judy Garland well you get the picture...
@grebel82 There is a difference among Elvis and other artists. I love Ella Fitsgerald, Dinah Washington, Caruso, Tom Jones etc. just because they are decent men and are capable of a litte humility. Elvis fans do not treat Elvis like a humility man. These decent men don´t want to be more famous than they are and are not considered a commodity to be bought and sold. That´s the point!
@willpn100 Elvis was an extremely humble, even shy man... His talent and charisma drove people to bestow upon him titles like the King..He said,."I am not the King. Jesus Christ is the King. I'm just an entertainer". Tom Parker exploited & ruthlessly marketed him as a commodity rather than as a person. Elvis has been dead for many years he cannot control how people view him any more now than he could then, try to separate the artist from the industry
@grebel82 Elvis fans do not separate the artist from the industry. They are always looking for a pretext to increase records sales. All they say that Elvis sales more records than other artists. Graceland is a typical example of the idolatry industry. Do not blame Tom Parker cos compulsive obsessed fans are the real problem. At present, commercial exploiting comes from the fans that built a church in Elvis name.
@willpn100 it sounds like your problem is more with the industry than the artist... Not interested in granceland but Elvis' records & music is fantastic because he was an extraordinary artiste...
@grebel82 I have no problems with Elvis. He is an incon, but it was not Elvis who inventend rock and roll/rockabilly nor was the first of the rock history. He was a Bill Haley´s collaborator and he did it very well. It´s fact that he was a cover artist, cos the most part of the songs he recorded was from r&b, gospel or hillbilly artists.
@willpn100 The Rock n' roll term was invented by Alan Freed, nad it does'nt matter who was the first who came to the limelight if Mr. Bill Haley or Elvis or even Liltte Richard etc.... Nowadays, Elvis among others are very well known world wide than other rock stars. And , he was a showman in every sense since he could sing any type of songs an it was instant hit even if he made many covers from others . Elvis was Elvis
@superginger23 Thanks to RCA and Col. Tom Parker. Facts can not be denied and are more important than arguments. Bill Haley is Bill Haley (The first Rock and Roll Superstar); Gene Vincent is Gene Vincent and so on. The problem is that many Elvis fans spread false informations to reenforce their arguments. Bad form!
@willpn100 YOU ARE NOT RIGHT, ELVIS HAD HIS OWN WRITTERS , ,MANY SONGS WERE WRITTEN FOR HIM,,,AND HE WAS NOT ONLY AN EXTRAORDINARY SINGER, HE HAD ALL , BEAUTY CHARISMA , FEDD BACK WITHT THE AUDIENCE , HE WAS A REAL ARTIST!!!!!!!!!!
@ana418ful Elvis is considered an icon not an artist cos he has no enough intellectual property to be a king!. It´s easy to be a king seizing songs to assume the throne. All rock and roll standards were not written by him.
That was pretty lame.. Elvis was the Vanilla Ice of his time....
