75$?!!?!?! I just lost my shit! A skanky hotel room with condoms stuck to the wall runs that much per night in the USA. (depending on where you live of course.) but seriously that's fucking ridiculously cheap.
@TotesMagotes I know, right?! This hospital is like a spa. Next time I think of going on vacation, I'll think of faking an illness and staying at that hospital for a week. If the hospitals are that nice, I wonder how their hotels look!
Ok I am not saying all the hospitals in thailand is bad or unskilled but they are a developiing nation. Many are poor and many are also uneducated so if something goes wrong in a surgery, you may not be able to do any about it since you have no rights or any insurance, support or what not since you did it in a totally diff country. Sorry but I just cannot trust doctors from a foreign country unless they have a very good reputation
According to the American Medical Association, graduates of international medical schools have been an integral part of the medical community since the 1940s. Today, of the roughly 950,000 doctors practicing in the U.S., there are over 240,000 foreign-trained doctors among them. So you already are being treated by foreign trained doctors in the US.
@egeefay actually isn't it policy that they have to relearn all the methods of the way medical operations run in the U.S to even get their doctors liscence? I mean I hear all the time that peopel who were doctors back home could not be doctors in the states or canada unless they relearn everything. Sucks but true.
that's wonderful, mind you, not every uninsured person has the money to fly overseas, room and board oversees, food etc. but its fine for those who can actually afford that, uninsured or otherwise, i suppose.
I went to UCLA owned med school, guess where the specialist came from, Thailand. He's still the best in the specialty. I can't speak for the other specialist, but some other "so-call" American specialist that reads your x-ray images needs more training. Oh wait, they have been reading it for over 30 years..and still can't get it RIGHT! ...I'm a little drunk...so I'll tell you a SECRET....get a second opinion, before you cut open yourself.
No this is not fake. I went to a doctor in Bangkok and it was just like this. You pick the services you from a menu. I had a full check up and blood test. Then I saw a doctor and then went back a few days later. The test and two days of doctors visits cost 3500 baht. that equals to about 120 dollars.
A friend of mine was involved in a traffic accident in Bangkok while visiting, ended up with a small puncture wound in the abdomen from the handlebars of a motorbike, the person who hit him had no insurance so you pay. Unbeknown to him they said he had complications & was bleeding internally, they carried out minor surgery no problem. In fact they stated that they had removed his appendix as they had burst, problem was he had them removed 25 years ago his insurance refused to pay, US$27,000?
i think i might have to make a trip to thailand for some health care. not having insurance sucks but working full time and your employer doesn't provide health insurance sucks even more!
We've been living under a privitized process for 75 years, the problem is, the industry has consolidated into two few number, of insurance co's for profit whose CEO's are paid bonus for denying your care. Overseas docs make 120K a year, a ransom there, and don't flock here to the US to double their salaries.
sometime I have to make appointment 2 days to see a GP, for specialist, I have been waiting for 4 months. In case of emergency you may have to wait about 4 to 12 hours.
I got all my teeth done at a rural hospital for $30 not the big fancy setup in this documentary. when it cost nearly $4000 for a root canal and other stuff. That was a couple of years ago. if you can get over the drugged, removed your kidneys and left for dead stories. you might consider it too.
i know this is nit-picking , but the temple in the beginning of this video is in chiang mai (not bangkok). it is called doi suthep and is on the mountainside near chiang mai. i hope to revisit it someday.
I once saw an episode of 30 Days where the guy on the show had to pay like, 500 dollars just for going in and getting his wrist checked for a fracture. It's ridiculous. I will the states had a better medical system.

this hospital is so amazing, i wana go there someday for a check. its so beautiful and full of luxury. that is a 5 star hospital. its like a hotel aswell thats what i love about it
I just returned from Thailand. I Went there to have a gastroscopy and dilation done for a condition I have known as dysphagia. My US physician quoted me $2500 to have the procedure done in the US(no insurance) I decided to do it in Thailand.
Round trip cost to fly to Thailand on EVA air elite class $1200.
Cost of 30 minute consultation with Thai doctor at Vejthani $22 (Jan 5)
Cost of 1 hour procedure next day, including nurse at Chulalongkorn Hospital(Jan 6) $60!
To add to that, we had a friend come down here twice, each for hip replacements.
I never found out the exact costs, but both were well under the quotes he had received back in Honalulu, flight costs and all.
Even more unbelievable, if anyone's watched the documentary, SiCKO, by Michael Moore, it only shows that you can even get free healthcare in places like England, France and Cuba.
Universal medicare isnt bad for anyone other than the businessman. At least in countries that have it, they treat patients based on illess or injury....not how much they make.
Asia probably has preventative healthcare like Australia does.
Without this like in the US the inhabitates are not as healthy, because their conditions only get treatment once they are so bad they need a hospital stay.
This is awesome! It looked nothing like the hospitals in the US, where they are generally over-crowded and stark looking; they're too expensive as well. I'll combine my next vacation with a health visit there. Thanks!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is fake, I don't believe it, its just a way they are trying to market their hospital and thailand just trying to get us to go,right when you get there and they check you out you will find out how much more it will cost you...what will you do now?,,,thats right you will just spemd your money touring..HAVE FUN!
Best advice is that if you are ever in Bangkok, stop by Vejthani or any of the other private hospitals in Thailand and have your teeth cleaned. Make a note how many people are in the operatory with you and how the rooms look. Then take the bill they give you and Compare that with the bill your dental hygienists charges you in the US.
@egeefay that they are trying to market their services maybe true. i myself having lived there know the cost of service compared to the states. i have used Bumrungrad hospital and found the services great. like anything you have to compare costs.
Mofuzion, why come on here and comment when you have no idea? Its not fake its PERFECTLY correct. Maybe go there and then comment with your knewly learned wisdom, until such time I suggest just not posting crap ;)
the living cost in thailand is very... very...very...cheap! I hve been to thailand many times for vacation with 2,000 us dollar...you'll live like a king for two weeks!
I have heard Thailand is a beautiful country with very affordable, up-to-date medical services. I also understand that they are taking great strides forward against malaria.
Me and the wife had IVF at Vejthani. It was a good experience. The cost is 1/5th of what it is in the USA and the hospital is to Western standards. But keep in mind, emergencies can happen in Thailand and your insurance WILL NOT cover the costs.
E.G. My wife got pregnant with triplets after our last cycle of IVF. Unfortunately she went into premature labour and we had our babies too soon. One was so small that she died after a week.
Well that doesnt make sense sure the cost is very low but ur paying about 500$ plus the hospital cost so ya about 550$ and just to go to a hostpital now does that make sense?
probably should compare that to how much staying at a major hospital in the us would cost compiled with whether you need a specialist which is extra much extra especially for surgeries and lastly if they need to airlift you to the other hospital for surgery not cheap at all compared to having every specialist under one building being paid a set fee for their services and not trying to misuse the insurance companies by placing false claims on service. happened to me the insurance thing did.
Dont be a complete div, this is an advert for the hospital. Look at the slick production of the video and the blatent selling patter. Id go there even so as it looks 10 times better than the NHS.
About sueing thing, of course you can sue the hospital, in fact, there were a few cases happenned. It's out of our bad habitual things that we don't fight for our own rights a lot.
For minor medical care, we would choose private hospital for its fast and nice services but for major medical care, we would defenitely choose public hospital (but I think most rich people still choose private H for its luxurious services anyway.)
I happened to read the argument about public and private hospital in the oldest posts and I disagree with that. Do you know most malpractice cases were from private hospital (not that there're much more cases than in US). Most of our top doctors remain teaching in the university and thus work in public hospital.
We also have the same facilities here in the Philippines, plus the fact that this is where you can find the cheapest Gamma Knife facility and procedure. Here, we call it "Hospetel"
Just stop by any hospital there... tehy about all the same standar (as long as it private ones), the "free(free for thai/ but wery little charge for foreigner)" ones that are goverment run are more like westen hospitals , etc long wait and not so modern equipment.. but did full body checkup at a good private one for males 30 yrs about 2 hour program for about 100usd :) just to do all those things in my country its atleast 30hours waiting time in total in hospitals in diffrent appartments :O
factor the cost of travel, (over $4,000 per person) room and board, plus the medical cost..hmmm not much of a bargain. Major surgery? How about $8000.00plus for 2 people, 2 weeks stay at $150USD ($2100.00) plus the cost of the procedure. How does going to Thailand make sense?
@vidmakr it's only more cost effective when major surgeries are concerned. Heart surgery for example, runs around the neighborhood of $35k but is at least seven times less in Thailand. In any case, the woman saved abt half the money she would have spent in the US- minus all the pampering...very much worth it if you ask me. Btw, the cost of travel to thailand is certainly NOT up to $4k. Where are you getting your prices from???
Prices in Thailand for Americans have gone up about 25% in the last 2 years. Problem is that the American dollar has lost a lot of value and the exchange rate which use to be 38 baht to one dollar is now down to 30 baht to one dollar. So this year I paid $400 for a full physical. Still a great Bargain
Isn't the cost about the same then, since you have to fly to Thailand plus the care cost? I would say..............it is better to be treated in US hospital, because of the standards and the quality.
Thailand works best for Americans who have no health care plan or are under insured. A couple of days in a US hospital for even minor surgery can cost tens of thousands of dollars if you aren't covered by an insurance plan.
Those who have some form of universal health care...England, Japan, Germany, Canada...etc. are better off where they live
This may be a nice commercial promoting Thailand's Medical Care. But unless you are traveling alone, in coach and staying just long enough for your physical, you'll be better off staying in the U.S.. The cost is well over $4000.00USD. $4-g's for a Physical?
Unfortunately not 100% in Japan. You need to pay a 30% of your bill up to a max. of about 500 $. We can add Cuba to the list though ;) I hope U.S. recovers one day universal health care. It does cost every month a significant portion of your pay but I just see no other service more essential that a country should provide to its citizens. Why is there no debate about it ?
not relly u think about it 4 under a thoused dollars u could stay 4 3 days in a fance room inc food and nures and look at that place i think r hospital r alot more dirty by the looks off it with the crak heads and drunks falling all over nures just ignor u i go but im in canada free heath care anways .lol
Yeah yeah, I understand, US is sub par and way overly priced. Greed trumps actual care.
One time I had a heavy tool drop on my foot at work and went for workers comp. It all went fine but then I just had a question about another problem I had with my foot and the woman told me I had to make another appointment.... what the?! Greed.... eventually she reluctantly answered my question because I kept asking her why she couldn't just answer the question.
Thai medical cost is very cheap comparing to that in US because there are not many lawsuits between patients and doctors. The cost is purely from medical reasons rather than doctors' insurance.
Not totally true. This statement is based on marginal federal income tax rates and does not take into account the full burden of all federal, state, and local taxes.
well done mate, we only have to pay roughly about 50p for prescription in Thailand or round about $ 1 , US is far far behind our system.only thing you might have to have is car insurance, since car accident accure allot in Thailand and its goverment wanted people to have more sense on the road.but everything els is free even dentist treat,my brother got the whole set of teeth for free, it might take a couple of year but he had it.
So Americans buy plane tickets and a hotel to stay in to get hospital care in Thailand that costs less than American hospitals... I don't see the sense in that.
Getting surgeries outside of the US is a bit scary. Everything looks nice and all, but what happens when a surgery fail? The insurance wont cover it. This guy on The Tyra Banks show who went to Thailand for a sex-change, he thought that he was complete until a period of time later after he came back to US. His downstair was messed up and he said it's hard for him to use the bathroom, the doctors in Thailand will probably deny any relation to him...
You can't sue a Thai hospital if you are not happy.
That's one of the reasons why medical costs are so affordable in Thailand and so expensive in America...hospitals in Thailand don't have to pay those expensive malpractice insurance premiums.
No, it is affordable because doctors don't think it is their God given right to make a million dollars a year working 20 hours a week. And Government prevention of competition doesn't let it happen.
no, it is not the same. if we include airticket round trip , it still cheaper than in usa. air ticker from CA or NY , usa to thai by Thai airway, direct flight. is about $ 1500. a simpla calulation 1500airticket+300check up+300hotel in 6 nights = $2100. while it an cost u here about $2500.
We try to schedule all our routine and non emergency medical services each year in Thailand so it covers our airfare.
We fly Deluxe Class on EVA airlines...cost 1200 dollars if you book in advance.
Once we get to Thailand, we have complete medical check ups, have our teeth cleaned and any dental work taken care of, and attend to other medical problems we may have.
Your travel insurance probably won't cover getting sick from surgery.
Suppose you were just getting nose surgery (eg remove a mole ) and you got sick with a lung infection and needed to return home as a very sick person.... very expensive as your travel insurance will normally not cover it.
even if they do cover getting sick from surgery, they could say that the mole was a preexisting medical condition that was being treated.
As long as you take antibiotics you won't get a lung infection. Or better yet ask your family doctor how much mg of antibiotics you should take. Ask your doctor more extra antibiotics too.
I have to say that I am really to this present day shocked how brainwash Americans are. Even Michael Moore released that the US is God-knows-what (last?) in the world - that even the rich get the terrible service. On 60 minutes you see Americans waiting in line for charity medicals. So sad. The world is laughing at you. When do you think you will organize and go on the streets and demand the bounty your country is claiming? (I am from Europe and now living in Canada but will move back)
After having dental work done at Grace Dental Care Clinic in Chiangmai I will never step foot in another dentist's office in America again if I can help it! They did excellent work, were extremely friendly, happily answered my questions in detail, have good equipment and are well trained. The service and attitude alone is almost enough to fly there whenever I need dental work! America's medical industry is so selfish they are on the way out only surviving by government and insurance support.
Thailand's best physicians are employed in Thailand's capitol, Bangkok. "Doctors" in rural areas of Thailand typically only have training equivalent of Advanced First Aid, but will never admit to it. Major cities outside Bkk are not that great. When living or traveling outside Bangkok, in event of EMERGENCY, you are running a risk of receiving improper and/or slow medical treatment which can be lethal. I suggest people with serious medical issues and the elderly not to stray away from Bangkok.
i did not say that that all wrong. but in my opinion, it is because hospital in rural area are not have enough money to buy a really expensive equipment.
They perform all surgeries in big hospitals. They get a lot of revenue so they should have everything that America has. Thailand's a hotpot for Australians looking for quality and cheap cosmetic surgery.
Its been a booming industry in the last 15 years. The doctors there are as good as American doctors.
If you didn't know, Thailand has the best sex-change surgeons in the world. They also perform the most sex-change operations in the world.
I vacation in Thailand once or twice a year and have used the dental services on 3 ocassions, one was an emergency visit. I will say I have never been disappointed in the care or the price. One of my golf buddies feel ill and spent 2 days in the hospital in Thailand and on my visits to see him I was very impressed with his care and I have to say his room was nicer than my hotel room.
As someone who actually has been to Vejthani Hospital I have to say that they are one the top facilities in Bangkok. If you can get in Bumrungrad International is to swankiest. Me and my wife had IVF there for about $5000 for everything. The doctors fee is about $15. As for Thai health care you get what you pay for and you need to do your homework before you go. Keep in mind they don't have a U.S. 911/U.K. 999 type system for emergency. I recommend these guys whole heartedly.
But they have cellphone emergency service that is willing to do anything for you (yes for a pretty expensive price but they seriously do everything. I once asked I'm bored of this restaurant, where should I go eat and they gave me a pretty decent place to go) Just plainly weird.
If you pay 2500$ for this check-up. then your a poor citizen.

This is awesome! It looked nothing like the hospitals in the US, where they are generally over-crowded and stark looking; they're too expensive as well. I'll combine my next vacation with a health visit there. Thanks!

Then post another reply here
egeefay 3 years ago 2
@egeefay that they are trying to market their services maybe true. i myself having lived there know the cost of service compared to the states. i have used Bumrungrad hospital and found the services great. like anything you have to compare costs.

I just returned from Thailand. This time I got a full physical at another Hospital....Thai Nakarin Hospital in Bangkok.
I had Blood work, EKG, carotid echography test, Upper and Lower abdominal ultrasound, chest Xray, Cardio Stress Test, Urinalysis, Stool Examination...all for $400!!!
Just the Stress Test alone would have cost $3000-$4000 in the US.

One was so small that she died after a week.
darrellknox 3 years ago
well im sorry to hear about one of your triplets, but that doesnt necessarily mean that she wouldve survived even if she was in the US.

probably should compare that to how much staying at a major hospital in the us would cost compiled with whether you need a specialist which is extra much extra especially for surgeries and lastly if they need to airlift you to the other hospital for surgery not cheap at all compared to having every specialist under one building being paid a set fee for their services and not trying to misuse the insurance companies by placing false claims on service. happened to me the insurance thing did.

About sueing thing, of course you can sue the hospital, in fact, there were a few cases happenned. It's out of our bad habitual things that we don't fight for our own rights a lot.
Voenix71 3 years ago
For minor medical care, we would choose private hospital for its fast and nice services but for major medical care, we would defenitely choose public hospital (but I think most rich people still choose private H for its luxurious services anyway.)
Voenix71 3 years ago
I happened to read the argument about public and private hospital in the oldest posts and I disagree with that. Do you know most malpractice cases were from private hospital (not that there're much more cases than in US). Most of our top doctors remain teaching in the university and thus work in public hospital.

factor the cost of travel, (over $4,000 per person) room and board, plus the medical cost..hmmm not much of a bargain. Major surgery? How about $8000.00plus for 2 people, 2 weeks stay at $150USD ($2100.00) plus the cost of the procedure. How does going to Thailand make sense?
vidmakr 3 years ago 2
Thailand works if you are one of the many people in the US who have no health insurance or who are under insured.
A pacemaker implantation can cost $30,000 or more in the US for the uninsured.
In Thailand it costs $6000 in the best US accredited hospital using the same brand pacemaker (St Jude).
Deluxe roundtrip airfare on EVA airlines is $1500
egeefay 3 years ago
You could use the mileage to get free tickets, if you fly a lot for business.
037kondo 3 years ago
@vidmakr it's only more cost effective when major surgeries are concerned. Heart surgery for example, runs around the neighborhood of $35k but is at least seven times less in Thailand. In any case, the woman saved abt half the money she would have spent in the US- minus all the pampering...very much worth it if you ask me. Btw, the cost of travel to thailand is certainly NOT up to $4k. Where are you getting your prices from???
dancenijas 1 year ago
Prices in Thailand for Americans have gone up about 25% in the last 2 years. Problem is that the American dollar has lost a lot of value and the exchange rate which use to be 38 baht to one dollar is now down to 30 baht to one dollar. So this year I paid $400 for a full physical. Still a great Bargain
egeefay 11 months ago
Isn't the cost about the same then, since you have to fly to Thailand plus the care cost? I would say..............it is better to be treated in US hospital, because of the standards and the quality.
so21alldat 3 years ago 2
Thailand works best for Americans who have no health care plan or are under insured. A couple of days in a US hospital for even minor surgery can cost tens of thousands of dollars if you aren't covered by an insurance plan.
Those who have some form of universal health care...England, Japan, Germany, Canada...etc. are better off where they live
egeefay 3 years ago
if i had to guess, most americans that dont have healthcare can't afford it and can't afford to go to thailand either.
ratedtriplex 3 years ago
This may be a nice commercial promoting Thailand's Medical Care. But unless you are traveling alone, in coach and staying just long enough for your physical, you'll be better off staying in the U.S.. The cost is well over $4000.00USD. $4-g's for a Physical?
vidmakr 3 years ago
ER waiting room time CANADA about 6 to 8 hours to see a doctor, Thailand, 10 minutes.
23vin850 3 years ago
Unfortunately not 100% in Japan. You need to pay a 30% of your bill up to a max. of about 500 $. We can add Cuba to the list though ;) I hope U.S. recovers one day universal health care. It does cost every month a significant portion of your pay but I just see no other service more essential that a country should provide to its citizens. Why is there no debate about it ?

The cost of a thorough physical in the us can cost over $2500. In Thailand it costs you much less...in our case only $300.
Airfare to Thailand deluxe class is $1200. Total cost in Thailand $1500 for airfare and physical.
That leaves $1000 in your pocket.
Get a heart bypass and the savings are even greater
It's not for everyone.
If you have insurance that will cover a complete physical there's no need to travel to Thailand. Mostly for the uninsured and underinsureed

well done mate, we only have to pay roughly about 50p for prescription in Thailand or round about $ 1 , US is far far behind our system.only thing you might have to have is car insurance, since car accident accure allot in Thailand and its goverment wanted people to have more sense on the road.but everything els is free even dentist treat,my brother got the whole set of teeth for free, it might take a couple of year but he had it.

Ngelcanfly 3 years ago
Yes.
You can't sue a Thai hospital if you are not happy.
That's one of the reasons why medical costs are so affordable in Thailand and so expensive in America...hospitals in Thailand don't have to pay those expensive malpractice insurance premiums.
egeefay 3 years ago
No, it is affordable because doctors don't think it is their God given right to make a million dollars a year working 20 hours a week. And Government prevention of competition doesn't let it happen.
Also, the markup on medications is much lower.

All that more than covers our trip to Thailand

Your travel insurance probably won't cover getting sick from surgery.
Suppose you were just getting nose surgery (eg remove a mole ) and you got sick with a lung infection and needed to return home as a very sick person.... very expensive as your travel insurance will normally not cover it.
even if they do cover getting sick from surgery, they could say that the mole was a preexisting medical condition that was being treated.
isilder 3 years ago

What type of healthcare system does Thailand have? Universal?
takadi 3 years ago
Not to complain about dental care in the US, but I had an infected root canal that required immediate attention last month
Initial doctor visit=100 dollars
Pereodontist work=1000 dollars
Visit back to my dentist to have the "temporary seal" made permanent=$200
I only wish I could have taken care of it all in thailand

Thailand's best physicians are employed in Thailand's capitol, Bangkok. "Doctors" in rural areas of Thailand typically only have training equivalent of Advanced First Aid, but will never admit to it. Major cities outside Bkk are not that great. When living or traveling outside Bangkok, in event of EMERGENCY, you are running a risk of receiving improper and/or slow medical treatment which can be lethal. I suggest people with serious medical issues and the elderly not to stray away from Bangkok.
stevenjockman 4 years ago
i did not say that that all wrong. but in my opinion, it is because hospital in rural area are not have enough money to buy a really expensive equipment.
amplovely007 3 years ago
They perform all surgeries in big hospitals. They get a lot of revenue so they should have everything that America has. Thailand's a hotpot for Australians looking for quality and cheap cosmetic surgery.
Its been a booming industry in the last 15 years. The doctors there are as good as American doctors.
If you didn't know, Thailand has the best sex-change surgeons in the world. They also perform the most sex-change operations in the world.

I recommend these guys whole heartedly.
darrellknox 4 years ago
But they have cellphone emergency service that is willing to do anything for you (yes for a pretty expensive price but they seriously do everything. I once asked I'm bored of this restaurant, where should I go eat and they gave me a pretty decent place to go) Just plainly weird.
