  • I mean, most adults OLDER than me don't know how to f-in' drive, so how are those people supposed to teach their children safe driving techniques? In the end, ALL of us are at fault, even me!

  • look BCDiver and Terephim.... i'm 27 yrs. old, and I know the importance of safe and responsible driving (two words in B.R.A.K.E.S.) and i think that ANY, i repeat, ANY publicity of the fact that reckless driving is unsafe for the driver, their passengers, and anyone else on the street is credible to teaching our younger drivers how they SHOULD act on our roads

  • Noticed when I watched the season finale NHRA race in Pamona, not less than 12 times, they ran a commercial against street racing and wreckless driving, by one of the biggest names in the sport, Ashley Force. Terephim is just dead wrong about drag racing in this regards.

  • Danika, for instance, should be saying..."You think this is wrong.....you would have to be a moron and text while you drive...(wITHOUT HER SARCASTIC GIRLY MEN, OF COURSE)

  • I agree that is a goofy commercial and doesn't put racing in a good light IMHO. Probably why I'm not a fan of that genre of racing.

  • Do you guys have a clue to how many kids are dying on the sides of the roads speeding and being wreckless? Racecar drivers are not "experts on the teenage brain." ...where are the adults "manning-up" on the tracks speaking up for safety and actually saying , "Hey Kids, Speed Kills.?" It really seems as if Doug has not processed his pain but rather put it all over the kids who need a chane to have real driving experience.

Sorry fior your loss; I also lost a child to SPEED by a vehicular hom.

  • Terephim, you have obviously never been to a dragstrip or to a drag race, if you had been you know that the message you are speaking of is made, loud and clear. The whole basis for the founding of the NHRA was based on getting racers off the street. You are just wrong about drag racing, period.

  • It would be great to have real statistics (survey monkey) just on the tracks. How many kids do you professionals each know who have been killed by SPEED...compared to the rest of us civilians who do not watch speed. ( like giving a Heroine addict Meth at the track)... teaching them to get high on addrenoline by watching and then saying "But you can't have it...be good boys and girls and leave the Speed at home.... It takes lots of good driving practice in the neighborhoods."

  • How many non-racers know someone that has been killed by speed? You are so blinded by your "blame everyone else" mentallity that you are totally willing to demean the exact message you want said. Have you even watched this video?

  • Maybe at the school level would be a better place to vent your frustrations or maybe have the schools send some kids to the track, they do it here at all the big events and the kids learn exactly what you are castigating the drag race industry for. You really should do a little research. Just assuming you are right is not a wise way to go about your cause, get out and do something like Doug.

  • Would love to talk to the kids bio-Mom and hear her thoughts. Quite unusual that a Foundation is formed by the DAD in less than a year's time...putting the pain and responsibility on the kids when it belongs on the adults. WHere is the B.R.A.K.E.S message on the track? Never see it or hear it on the SPEED channel. Nobody is "casting stones" BTW....

  • When you are making accusations that are not based on any fact (you obviously haven't been to a drag race), then in my book you are casting stones. Particularly because you are trying to somehow disparage what Doug is doing. Many foundations ans charities are started in exactly this manner, usually because of an unfortunate and tragic event such as this, to act as though somehow there is something negative about this further damages your argument.

  • The victims of vehicular hominide always are the ones left with that job.. The pro racers should be doing the job way before the tragedy strikes them.SPEED is like a drug to these kids. Parents who smoke.... have kids who smoke.

    Don;t smoke...just watch me?

  • You are just beginning to be ridiculous. Blaming racers for kids that speed is like blaming GM because they make a car. You are really looking foolish now.

  • EBrokovitch, I'm very sorry about your daughter but at the track you WILL see a LOT of education about the dangers of street racing all the time. Local tracks all over the country have "street nights" were they advertise for people to come race there instead of the street. You obviously have something against racers but you really should try visiting your local dragstrip before you cast stones at the wrong people. I can't vouch for NASCAR or IRL but you are DEAD WRONG about drag racing.

  • Here is a thought: Drag Racers are not experts on the "teen-age" brain development. Kids, 18-21 need a chance to get some good driving experience....not agressive driving training from their favorite pro-racer. Where are the PSA's relating to Speed and Wreckless driving? Can't wait to hear the commercial on SPEED...You think this wrong..you would have to be a moron and text while you drive..(without the girly men.) Speed and provocative ads also increase the young 18-21adrenaline...

  • The drag strip has removed thousands off the street, you simply have no factual basis for anything you are saying. It's the entire basis for even having a drag strip.

Drag racing has a junior league that highly and strictly promotes the very things you wrongly accuse the racing community of, you simply are being untruthful.

  • Come to Orlando and count the numerous memorials on the side of the highway...the rally's from Tampa to Orlando and Back all on you tube. Great work you are doing at BRAKES but the education needs to get to the street for the kids who are just immitating you...The Hulk Hogans of the world who just love SPEED ,,,the regular highschoolers doing their homework, are at the mercy of SPEED. I want to hear the pros speak the message on TV after Danica does her boost mobile ad!

  • They do it all the time, you just decide to close your ears. BTW, most of those memorials you see are caused by alchohol and drugs.

  • "DO what we say...not what we do" is a very weak message...Alot like drinking and smoking...kids do what they see. Professionals need to say and somehow fet the kids to leave the thrill of speed behind when you get in the drivers seat...Graduated drivers liscencing..Safe Teen Driving was at the end of October didn't see one PSA on the SPEED Channel. Leacving Speed behind is not that easy ro do when you are a kid. The adults who are watching who love SPEED need the "in your face" education!

  • What they do is race in a safe environment, they DON'T race on the street. If kids DID what we do, they wouldn't race on the street. Most wrecks are caused by wreckless driving, not just speeding. You obvoisly do NOT watch the speed channel, there is no way you do.

  • The young people are emulating what they are watching on the SPEED Channel, which has gone over the top in the last 8 years. Professional RAcing has an obligation to its young audience to acknowledge that racing ois for the track only. Children should not be expected to just "get it." Haven't seen BRAKES at NASCAR or IRL so since you are collecting the cash-lets hear it!

  • I'm wondering what DOug Expected, since he was a racer himself- My daughter was killed by a pro racers "BFF" and I am wondering why it has taken so long to get some education and why th professionals don't addres the issue of safety before tragedies happen Scapegoating the kids in school when the danger is what is going on at the track is the issue- Educate the adult racers at the track. Kids emulate what they see- Since "Professiona" indicates regulation why not make it mandatory trackside

  • how is "what is going on at the track" the issue? the nhra is incredibly adamant about getting street racers off the street and onto the track. the professional drivers aren't racing on the streets. people are responsible for their own actions, and legal racing on a track is not an excuse for anything that happens on a public road.

  • A "Survey Monkey" asking the question how many professional racers have friends and family under 21 who have been killed in wreckless driving would be helpful.

Start with the survey and then ask if there is a correlation between wreckless driving and professional racing. Racing on Sunday and Selling cars on Monday is no longer the focus of professional racing.

Start with accounting and statistics and also realize that pro racing is a very expensive endeavor that is out of reach for most kids.

  • "The Teen Driving Problem?

More like the professional racers problem-

Haven't seen any "PSA's on the Speed Channel.

Tax the racing industry and get some real actioin, not just a placator!
