I had surgery EXCATLY one year ago today. im doing great but i have muscle spasms alot and they suck. but I have also have more pain in my back because one month and one day after my surgery i fell down the 18 steps and hit my head on the wall so i had to go to the E.R. ever since my surgery i have lost count on how many times i have fallen down the steps. just the other day i was walking down the driveway and i fell on ice. But im glad you're doing great. (:
I'm 20 years old and was wanting to get surgery, but have been too scared. Do you think that i'm still kind of young to get surgery? Since, you commented "If you ever have to get surgery, do it as soon as you can, before you get older."
@alejandro1991ify If you feel like surgery will help you and make you feel better (I never have pain in my back now), than I would suggest that you get it done. You are still young, but I think you should still get it done before you get much older so your body will heal more easily and the entire experience will be much more enjoyable.
@Fluidshine Thanks man your video has inspired me to go and get surgery. Just watching you before and after surgery has given me a positive look on surgery. I'm not so scared to get it done.
@tylernol1997 You basically just feel extremely stiff and can only walk super slow. Of course you'll be on pain meds so you won't feel much of the pain. I felt really stiff and had to take short, small breaths because it kind of hurt to breath deep. But it gets better quickly the more you start to walk and move around.
Hey, I have a 40 degree curve and I'm using a Brace. Will I ever need surgery? Bcuz this is some very serious stuff, and I'm afraid I'm going to have to do this. Please answer my question. Thanks ;)
@reaperoftheFUNK Hi reaperoftheFUNK. I believe that my curve was around 53 or so and my doctor suggested that I not use a brace because he told us that it was not proven to be effective at all, and my curve was already so bad. If you ever have to get surgery, do it as soon as you can, before you get older. It is much easier to get the surgery when you are younger and can heal faster. It makes the entire experience much better, at least that's what I've been told and I believe it's true.
I had that same surgery but mine was a 85 degrre curve it was wicked bad they had to take ribs out and i had that thing in my neck that you had i had a lot of things hookied up to me my scolis was wicked baddddd
How many vertebrae did you have fused? My surgery was about 7th months ago and I'm still getting used to my new and significantly more awkward body haha. I'm trying to continue my college cheer career with 13 fused vertebrae and 26 bolts, no bending in my back. It's pretty tough and you handled yours so well!!! You had such a great attitude! I plan on making a video after I get some new cheer footage and photos.
I too have in the lower lumbar a 50 degree curve, discs are also destroyed. I am so afraid surgery wont help, and the pain, when I go to an Urgent Care center or Spine Dr they will not give anything for pain?? I am trying to get a GP, and start there, Dying of pain in KY
@rizzo841995 Yeah im getting it fixed at some point this year, im looking forward to the outcome as it will change my life :) How did yours go if you dont mind me asking?
Hey sorry I also forgot to ask, what were your curves before and after? And btw I am making a video series just like you if you want to see how everything goes :P
Heyy my name is Sam I love your videos the gave me like the best idea of surgery out of all the videos. I just have some questions if you don't mind :) How long after surgery is this when the video starts? When was the most painful time, rate the pain? What is it like first waking up? Do you feel good now? How old where you then? Thanks I may have more, i have like a million I just can't think of them all now! Anyways I am having surgery in 11 days! Nov.30th. Wish me luck! (70* and 50*)
@Sherryism You shouldn't need to use the restroom the day after because of all the medicine, but when you do it is hard at first because you can barely move your entire back. But it gets easier and easier
@Sherryism It really depends on the person. Everyone's recovery is different. Luckily my recovery went really smooth. I could walk fairly easily within a few days and I never really used my walker at home.
Hey, how are you doing after your surgery? I'm going to give one of my kidney's to my Dad in June. So this eased my mind a little bit. You live in Arizona right? Your video demonstrated what's going to be like for me, well kind of. :)
Looks like your recovery went well. In my experience, the week in the hospital post-op was the worst week of my life. I did mine a little over 2 years ago now. I don't even notice it anymore. I love the scar though, mines on my side.
Hi, Im from Portugal, and my scoliosis surgery will be on next Monday... Today is Thursday. OH MY GOD!!
Im a 21 years old guy, and my scoliosis appeared when i was 8. I know how do you feel, and Linda's video give me forces to my surgery... My scoliosis have 35degrees.
Before surgery, how much degrees had your scoliosis? And after surgery?
@mitsaicreative My curve before the surgery was about 54 degrees i believe, so mine was a bit worse than yours. It's been about seven weeks since my surgery and I'm doing great! I feel pretty normal right now, but i still haven't done much strenuous physical activity. I've been told by my doctor it will be around 3-4 months before I'll be completely back to normal (doing anything I would have been doing before surgery) I was pretty scared before my surgery also, but it wasn't too bad!
@mitsaicreative Oh! hmm I'm not quite sure....I have the x-ray of it now and it looks really straight, the only part of my spine that's curved at all slightly is towards the bottom and it's barely noticeable. Hopefully I will put up a new video soon and you will be able to see the x-ray
I was wondering how your post op is going??? I am a male patient as well, looking at surgery this year.. I'm pretty nervious. What sections did you have fused?? I'm looking at t2-L1... Hope you are doing great, and thanks for posting your video. It is a very strong thing to do and helps everyone else prepare. U da man!
@VooDooChil4ever Yeah I need to make a new video! I am getting kind of sick of just laying around the house every day, but I think I'll be able to go sit at the movies within the next week or so. I went out to Target today just to get out of the house though! And When I went to the doctor last wednesday I had already been off the pain killers pretty much for a little less than a week and he said that was weird haha. I should have a new vid up soon and chat about it all so stay tuned! thanks ;)
@tristan10brito Towards the bottom of my spine there is still a small amount of curvature, but i'm a lot better than before regardless. Maybe I will put pictures of the x-rays in a future video.
@tristan10brito Well I was 5' 10" and three quarters before the surgery. I just went for a check up today and they measured me and I was about an inch taller I believe. So I'm about 6' tall now

I know this is a stupid question, but what is catheterized?

Did you need to be catherized for a procedure like this, I hear that's as painful as the surgery itsself.

@torylivingston You mean "catheterized", and yes. But it's really not painful, just uncomfortable.
