  • it was a fierce battle

  • Napoleons main mistake was his army was simply too large to forage from the countryside.

His cavalry horses were practically wiped out never to recover.

Foraging worked in Europe where theres a village every few miles but Russia has vast empty spaces between villages and no crops or food etc so its a whole different ball game.

Hitler also misunderstood the sheer space of Russia and the supply lines were severely overstretched.

Youd have to be a bit of a nut to invade Russia but they were.

  • @zenoist2 also dont forget hge sat still waiting on Russias surrander and had only pack for inda type weather

  • Greatest strategic mind to ever have entered a battlefield. Russia would have been along side western Europe had they behaved like civilised conquered people. Napoleon truly wanted and could had make Europe a unified and invincible continent for a millennia.

  • vive l empereur et la grande armée!!!!

  • with age he changed. but he still had the magic, at waterloo, he would have won if his field marshals would have returned or remained within 20 miles.

  • По жизни в европе какая-нибудь заваруха, после которой кто-нибудь да поползет.

  • Vive l'Empereur de France!!

  • France was fighting for Liberty, Democracy against Tsar, Kings, all Tyranns

People was our brothers, not our ennemies

How can you not understand that

    Wellington was not your friend

Certainly not! that arrogant aristocrat hated people !

  • Napa ?

Napo was a dictator, absolutely !

He wanted to Dict Republicans values to others Tyrants

Especially the Tsar killed by YOUR Revolution

  • Ludwig van Beethoven once wrote a wonderful symphony and wanted to devote this symphony to Napaleon in honour of democracy=) But then Beethoven didn't do this , because Napaleon proclaimed itself an Emperor=) The end=)

  • And also Russian Empire was a gendarme of Europe, because Russian Empire army repressed all revolutions in Europe=)

  • what is the name of this french march ???

  • The beggining and the end (same french march) is "Pas cadencé" (= about "rythmed step" in english)

In the middle is "La victoire est en nous" (= about "Victory is in us" in english)

  • The French Army by itself was heroic and brave, the officers is what destroyed that great Army. Only if they had German or English Officers, all of Europe would be speaking French today.

  • for heaven sake certainly this is not the case....its an annoying language and the French are annoyingly proud on it !

  • lol french is an amazing language lol

  • and what about the useless german ?

    annoying and agressive!!

only english is useful now in The Empire !!!

  • The French officers in Napoleon's Army were extremely competent and good officers. Napoleon's mistake, like Hitler's, was invading Russia. Napoleon did not have a large enough army, nor the supplies needed to keep his army fighting, to conquer Russia. It was a foolish expedition and, as he was warned by a number of his generals not to invade Russia, he should have know better.

  • Poles told the fool that it is stupid to take Moscow in the Winter, and also he said to go through Ukraine. Poles knew because Poland captured Moscow for the longest time in history. 12 years.

  • Napoleon, at the end of the empire had changed He had the All or Nothing mentality. Well documented.

And did not envisage that Russians would not fight... In Moscow,French waited several weeks to have an opponent. But What they found was only Moscow in flame.

Russians can say what they want but were against The Revolutionary France and oppressed Poland since centuries.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh but they did fight and the biggest fight was before Moscow. A battle that Napoleon never forgot because the Russians fought his army to a standstill despite in the end forced to retreat by Kutuzov and recover thier loses before Napoleon started retreating from Russsia

Hence this quote: "Of the fifty battles I have fought, the most terrible was that before Moscow. The French showed themselves to be worthy victors, and the Russians can rightly call themselves invincible" - Napoleon

  • You are right. But one knows they burnt totally Moscow in order french can't have food or even armies to fight.

But terribly efficient. And Napoleon knew probably very badly russia. Attack them near Christmas is a madness.

  • Yes, hell winter or no winter attacking them to begin with is madness ..history shown that countless times.

I wonder what if Napoleon did succeed in conquering Russia ..would the population except him with the changes he would have brought ?

  • No they wouldnt.... the point is that when Napoleon entered Moscow, all the citizens burned their houses down and left the city... he never met such behavour in Europe before, the only nation that said : even if you'll win we wil never live under your rule

  • Okay, but still under Napoleons rule Russia would have benefited . after Borodino Napoleon had a great deal of respect for the Russians. and i think he would have probably fell in love with the country and the people.

  • @Drovosekk

Its more like extremely un-warlike behavior. Running instead of fighting and when the enemy is getting tired of all this stab him in the back.

  • Htler started russian invasion exactly the same day Napoleon did

  • Exactly. And while he had a great deal of respect for the Russian artillery he did underestimate Russian cavalry and infantry.

  • @btapoutjoe

France and Napoleon put Russia on its feet in numerous battles.

Its not Russians that beat Napoleon, its the French themselves and the Russian Winter.

  • @wachaufeuropa

Napolean was kicked from Russia before arriving of Russian Winter. Teach history, guy!

  • Joking ? I damn well hope so.

  • what song was played when russians were driving Napoleon out of Moscow?

  • I used to have this old computer game, I kept it all these years for the great music.

The quality of the music was actually better than that of the French Website "Musiques Napoliennes"

  • whats the name of the music that starts at 00:30

I recognize it from the movie Waterloo.

  • La Victoire est en Nous

  • This song was played as the French Army entered Moscow.

  • It's a little part of "La Marche Consulaire à Marengo". It's a famous military music in France.

  • Seirgei bodarchucks War and Peace

  • what film is it ?
