I about LIVED at the Off Ramp on Monday nights back then. I was at this gig & was pretty blown away. Pre-function at the Frontier Room, then the Off Ramp every Monday night.
this is how rock and roll music should be instead of being wimpy also even though this performance came after seven months when the death of Andrew Wood meaning the demise of Mother Love Bone, this is a good performance but too bad I came into this world a year and six months after this gig
the amazing part of this show was the line up, I was there. get this........Sweet Water, Mookie Blaylock, Alice in Cains, and to finish it out Soungarden! Oh, the memories here and rockcandy! To be 22 again!
That's definitely still Stone on the right hand edge of the screen (to Eddie's left). Definitely his body language. Mikey's on his usual side, in the black t-shirt with the white/black guitar
Memorial services for Lee Rea, owner of the Off Ramp who died recently, that helped to launch the careers of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice and Chains, Nirvana, and others will be held this Saturday 9/26 ... at 11:00am ... at: New Heart Metropolitan Community Church and United Church of Christ (New Heart MCC/UCC) ...
What happened to this Eddie? I think the last we heard of true Eddie Vedder was Vitalogy; it's like he blew out his voice or lost his verve or something. I miss this era of PJ, mainly cause I think any weakness in their sound can be pinpointed to vocals; I don't think it's for lack of trying, but his voice has come across as thinner and weaker ever since then.
Well, as bands change, so does there music. I think Eddies voice is still holding up pretty well. I dont think Eddies voice was utilized as well as Ten and Vs in regards of screaming and singing ability in Vitalogy, Vitalogys probably there most straightforward album.
Eddie is a smoker so his voice is getting hurt by it. But he can still sing. I think its tough for anyone to sound the same 20 years later. Especially when you sing 3 hours a night for 18 straight years.
You are right....I think he still sounds amazing after all these years ...and I really wish Eddie would quit smoking..I want him to be healthy and live forever!
I'm a PJ fan, so you'll get no argument about me about the smoking, or about the change in musical direction that deemphasizes the vocals over the other aspects of the music. And, in certain instances, his voice still sounds amazing. However, there's just something missing, an extra 'oomph' I just haven't heard, regardless of musical style, since the mid-90s. I do think part of it is purposeful, as I remember interviews in which he said he didn't want to be so front and center. Good comment!
No, I agree; I'm in a band; I've uploaded some fukn-around stuff on the 'net, but when we were more 'serious', we put out a few CDs;each reflected our diversity but was a snapshot in time; I realise that.
I guess all I'm saying is that the music has changed in some good ways, but rarely do we hear this *power* anymore, this raw, cathartic emotion that makes you *feel*, want to jump up and change the world when the CD ends...that's what I miss.
Arabhorseband - You are insane. Eddie's voice is like a fine wine...gets better with age. You will not find a more interesting, DINSTINCTIVE voice than Ed Vedder's. Have fun watching your American Idol reruns.
You're completely off the wall with that comment and completely missed the subtleties of what I was arguing; I understand you're a fan, but damn...all I was saying is I miss the power and the catharsis he used to elicit. Not many PJ fans disagree his voice is still tremendous but he can't go where he used to for whatever reason. As far as AI, that's abfuckinsurd; I could turn you on to some bands right now that'd make you forget what you're bumpin right now.
Agreed, and look at the crowd - there is only one dude there dancing like he should be and fully appreciating the show! Nobody seems to understand what they're witnessing; this is a couple years before "Ten" really hit it big and people really had no way of knowing...three years later they'd be fighting over concert tickets at the Gorge and gathering grandkid stories.
Yeah, if you order either the super deluxe or deluxe editions of the remastered "Ten" disks, the 2nd of the disks has a bunch of unreleased songs. One of the them, hopefully, is this song, along with Brother (again, hopefully with lyrics), among others.
i love this fucking band!!!!!!!! live the 90's i haveall the pj cds, thanx the videos, i hope they in my country, someday,im grateful pj, byee...live the rock and roll, agrdecimientos de peru, )
I filmed this show... it was subsequently ripped off and now it's all over the internet. This was their 1st ever performance. Between the soundcheck and the start of the show I had an opportunity to chat with Eddie - he was actually pretty sick, toting around a box of Kleenex. When I asked them how long they had been together he drew a long, contemplative breath and finally said: "six days..., this being the sixth".
By the way, this was months before they took on the Mookie Blaylock moniker. At the time of this show I labeled the video tape as: "Stone Gossard/Jeff Ament Post Love Bone Project - Off Ramp Cafe, Seattle WA 10/22/90".
I'm curious, what motivated you to film this? It takes effort to film this...but it's the content - the band that's popular...so it's the band, not the videographer getting "ripped off."
I filed it because I realized it would be something special - with Andrew's death and MLB's demise only a few months in the past at the time. I said I was ripped off because someone literally stole the video tape from our apartment. By your line of reasoning, photographers wouldn't have rights to the images they capture and firms such as Getty Images would not exist.
I remember Alice in Chains playing at Wazzu in front of the library. Not many students payed much attention. We jokingly called them "Alice in Wonderland". The Off Ramp, Showbox, Tractor Tavern, The Croc, Anyone remember the Weathered Wall? Good times!
When Andrew Wood was in the band it was called Mother Love Bone... I sure miss going to all those shows... Anyone remember when Alice In Chains was a Poser band???
pearl jam never was mother love bone that was mother love bone stone and jeffs old band pearl jam used to be called mookie baylock just like it says in the title
in my lifetime ive seen lots of bands in the states and mexico... but i gotta say that pearl jam is my number 1 show... ever... i saw them in sanantonio... and here in monterrey.. and i cant wait to see them again... hopefully they will come back to mexico one day..
One of the best show Ive ever been to. Mookie Blaylock opened up for Alice In Chains. The place was so packed they had fans sitting on the stage during AIC.
Is this really their first show ever with eddie as the front man?, if im not mistaken they played together (jeff stone and mike) but with andrew wood as the front man not eddie. God sure blessed this guy with a set of vocal chords, carrying a room with bad equipment and audio and still sounds fucking amazing...

@GenesisTree Why were they called Mookie Blaylock? Is it because they liked the nba player so much? Or did they even know him?
josephborderline 9 months ago
@josephborderline Correct... They were actually forced to change their name, but also renamed Ten after Mookie Blaylock's jersey number

Have they played this song since?
grcontrol07 1 year ago
@grcontrol07
According to their website, they've only played it twice. This time, and once again on January 11, 1991 in Vancouver.
Not sure why they scrapped it. It's a hell of a song.
