lemme put it to you this way, I have AT&T with the $30 rip-off plan (um I mean data plan) I also have t-mobile regular account with NO data.

I am jailbroken and unlocked and I have NO problems using my t-mobile sim AND wifi.

if you dont get a data plan you can only get web access, email etc etc if you have a wifi signal.

so yes, you do NOT have to have the data plan, HOWEVER I asked AT&T if I could drop the data plan and they said NO, that I must have it. ATT requires it, t-mobile does not

I just got my iphone last week and managed to seemingly brick it within that time. I can't restore, no matter what I try. I've tried restoring from itunes regularly, I tried shift-restoring and selecting various different .ipsw's, I tried restarting my computer, i tried restoring my computer, I tried doing it on a new account, I tried restoring on a different computer. Nothing is working. I simply get an error every time I try to restore.

Check the base band on your iPhone and if it's said 05-11-07 with firmware version 3.1, you're out of luck for restoring. You must wait for the unlocked software from the Dev team.

This guy has a vedio for windows users, just click the link at the right upper corner. and btw pwnage tool is just there to help you buidl the right *ipsw file. So you don't really need it if you can dwonload the appropriate file from the internet. once you get that file follow the steps in the windows users vedio

Yes, you can upgrade, BUT IF YOU DO, then your iphone wont be jailbroken and unlocked anymore, Thats a warning. Hope I helped.
