the last part, you on the same page as me. they should just make ONE system, that plays alll games or all game companys all work for the ONE system. save customers paying for a dozen consoles. or just afford the 1 . then everyone would get best of all worlds and game companys would probly make more money. imagine it 1 handheld that plays gamegear gameboy psp 3ds ds lite.

I wonder: 1) Can you use the SNES controller for sega & NES games or the genesis controller for SNES/NES games, etc, or is the wireless controller the only one that will work on all of them?

2) I wonder if some of the genesis add ons, like the power base converter, will work on that? Between the PBC for the genesis and the supergameboy for the SNES, you could make that into a retron 5

great review. i recently got this system for christmas and love it. a few things i wished you would've touched up on are the weight of the system itself. its as light as air. feels about a pound. and the fact that its a little tricky to get the snes games into slot. you have to push down just right to get it to work. minor things but worth mentioning i think. great system, great review, God Bless

Does it have any region lockouts? For SNES, you could just get one of those pass-through converters or break the tabs like in the old days, but direct Super Famicom (and to a lesser extent, Famicom and Mega Drive) compatibility would be a major selling point to me.

@nightwing245 I would assume not since the 32x requires some additional cables from the Genesis that this unit lacks. Mainly being, the R, G, B, Sync, ground, and audio. If you can separate the streams from the S-Video or composite, then you might be able to. But breaking down the video from either of those video plugs will degrade the Genny video considerably. And the 32x probably won't even fit, so you'd have to modify that.

I was in a game store and they were selling a bunch of old snes/nes/genesis games, but I only owned a Super Nintendo. I asked them if they had any nes or genesis consoles. They said "no", but then they introduced me to the Retron 3 for 40 bucks. I was hesitant to buy, because I didn't know if they were dependable for hybrid clones. After this review, I am convinced. I think I'll go back and buy one! :)

I bought this from a classic game store a while back. Pretty sweet. Actually, my favorite feature was the fact it could play Super Famicom games. Been playing through Final Fantasy V. Though the controllers it comes with suck. Pretty bad in fact. Feel great. Don't work though.
