i heard this song on the sopranos, start of first ep , season 6. the song and the scenes r really intense and like a lot of u guys i had to look it up. william s burroughs is the the narrator in the song.
Me and my dad used to clean out houses for our manager, and one time we cleaned out the house of a guy who legally changed his name to John Rambo. Along with a bunch of porno, years' worth of baseball stats, and a huge stack of gun magazines (all kept in mint condition mind you) a tape containing this song and a bunch of Bob Marley tunes were the only things even worth trying to save for selling. I sold the rest of the stuff, and kept the tape because of this song. Glad to find it on the Tube...
My wife used this track as the backdrop to a project at photo-school many years ago. She took still images of funerals at our local church and wove it all together using a slide projector. Apparently it weirded out the whole class for days. Wish I was there.
Again, this is a sappy Euro-trash perfume commecial that somehow serves as the only space for a brilliant collaboration re Burroughs and Laswell. Burroughs contribution [ beyond his extraordinary voice] is his dead pan version of an ancient mythology, and one that resonates beautifully with the dark bass lines Lawell produces. That said, Laswell is the side-man, Burroughs the artist.
@dinnerbucket9 No, Closetland happens to be a statement about the US Government's cruelty to citizens and the tactics they use to illicit false confessions.
@dinnerbucket9 I think Burroughs probably would have enjoyed having this applied to a sappy Euro-trash perfume commercial. The ridiculousness acts as nice ballast for what otherwise borders dangerously on pretentious. Otherwise, the song might just float right away...
This video is loathsome....a perfume commercial for yuppie whoremasters. Bill Laswells collaboration with Bill Burroughs is exquisite....a dark-minded lullabye that goes directly to the core of the ancient monsters unstopped heart.
Yuppie whoremasters??? Do you even know what Closetland is about? It was a film promoted by Amnesty International about the Government and their torture methods.
Wow, I had no idea that song and this movie went so well together. For the record, I don't necessarily think she dies at the end of Closetland. Maybe he lets her go?
Wonderful work as usual, Catsplay. Amazing. Lovely editing, you really do take such time and effort to make it all perfect. Original song idea too. Thanks for sharing!

the music is pretty good but the video has nothing to do wih it and is boring

Nice video work, but has nothing to do with the reading. And I was unimpressed by the music -- Laswell's version is worlds better.
mithras718 5 years ago
This is also Laswell's version silly. Material is Bill Laswell's band.

Lol trying to impress people with your knowledge of the composer which you probably found on wikipedia or imdb or something.
This is Laswell's version. Laswell's band Material...
