I have a huge bullet that i found in my grandfathers house after he passed. It is huge I think it some kind of .50 caliber round. It has A09F printed around the primer on the back of the shell and the whole round is almost as long as my 2/3 the length of my hand. and i know its not a 20mm it to small for that and it is jacketed. anyone know what this is??

I hope everyone understands that the African governments allows hunters to hunt elephants because the elephant populations in Africa are out of control and it's damaging the ecosystem. Plus the meat from one elephant feeds the local village for a year.
Its because of the profits made from trophy hunting that the elephant population is growing since more elephants equals more cash for the poor african countries. Not to mention the fact that elephants reaching a certain age must be taken down since their teeth are so worn out they would otherwise slowly starve to death. Besides that, the meat is always given to the locals.

@OHNGAI generally when someone is tagged an elephant to legally hunt, it is because the elephant(s) have been destroying crops, trampling people and various other acts. When an elephant is shot near small villages, the general tradition is an entire banquet in honor of the hunter, and the elephant. Im sure there is video of such a feast on youtube somewhere. These tribesmen leave nothing but bones, even eating the eyes, bones, internal organs, and use things like a femur for a bench, or a tool.

That would be quite alright because I'd be an animal and I wouldn't have the ability to reason at the level of a human.. It's not like I torture animals, they're put out instantly when I hunt them, I'm a great shot; alot let painless than the pig meat in the supermarket where they slit their throats and hang them upside down to bleed out.. thats just how it is, people have to eat meat... I don't think it serves any purpose to kill an animal like an elephant, but it happens and should be stopped.

@wtfjaftw I really have my doubts that elephants could be successfully and sustainably farmed considering that their gestation periods is nearly 2 years meaning it would take just 2 years to see any form of production and probably a good 6-7 years if not longer before that same cow has another calf, furthermore I don't see a need for animals like elephants to be farmed, we have cattle and other domesticated animals for meat etc. and as for ivory well...why do we need ivory anyway

Its because of the profits made from trophy hunting that the elephant population is growing since more elephants equals more cash for the poor african countries. Not to mention the fact that elephants reaching a certain age must be taken down since their teeth are so worn out they would otherwise slowly starve to death. Besides that, the meat is always given to the locals.
That crap about poaching and civil wars was back in the 80s-90s, not a concern today

@OHNGAI generally when someone is tagged an elephant to legally hunt, it is because the elephant(s) have been destroying crops, trampling people and various other acts. When an elephant is shot near small villages, the general tradition is an entire banquet in honor of the hunter, and the elephant. Im sure there is video of such a feast on youtube somewhere. These tribesmen leave nothing but bones, even eating the eyes, bones, internal organs, and use things like a femur for a bench, or a tool.

@OHNGAI in most instances I agree 100%, but in the case of mercy killings (when an elephant is badly wounded and can't recover) or when the population in one area is too high (in that case you could just move some to another place). the only one I really think is proper is when you are charged by a bull while on a safari, otherwise stick to the gazelles, kudu, and other non-endangered species.
