@MrPoweradeguy What operating system is it running? Check from Settings>General. If it's less than 4.3 and won't update, it's a 2G. If it's stuck on 3.1.3 it's a 1G. If it has a camera it's a 4G.

The 3G will be out of support with the release of iOS5 in June this year... they are outdated products.

@callumazoo11 Try running iOS 4 on it. You'll notice that most of the features won't work, like backgrounds or multitasking. This is because the 8GB model is a 2G, that was still for sale. It has a 667MHz processor, where the real 3G models, 32 and 64GB, are 800MHz.

@scott5397 Wow you didn't even pay attention. What I've discussed with Apple reps: The iPod Touch 2G, ALL MODELS, do not support multitasking. The iPod Touch 3G (8GB) is the SAME as the 2G. The iPod Touch 3G (32 and 64GB) is much FASTER, and will support multitasking.

@scott5397 You got it wrong bud. This was a big issue back in Sept 2009 when the 3G was released. I went up to my local Apple Store at Legacy Village, and talked to them about it. The '3G 8GB' is NOT the same as the 32GB and 64GB when regarding the processor. Notice that the 8GB models will not support multitasking or backgrounds, because it uses the same processor as the 2G. Get your stuff right, the 3G 8GB is the same as the 2G. Check the numbers on the case or ask Apple.
