  • GMF and Premier best DJs ever !!!

  • Dope!

  • Precursor to all we do. The basics.

  • Which turntables is he using in this clip exactly. The tonearm looks like the one from the good old 1200 Mk2 but the rest seems to be the classic Technics SL-1200 MkI.

  • At that moment in time, I would say Grand Master Flash was possibly the coolest person alive.

  • yo...speechless

  • Oldschool is the future.

  • Wow. He can actually speak English. What happened to hip hop over the years?

  • Flash and always will be my DJ hero. Saw him do Adventures on the Wheels of Steel live at UK Fresh 86.

Homemade paper slipmats. MANUAL beatmatching and proper hands on adjustments slowing the turntable down by physically holding on to the wheel, not with pitch fader. Now THAT's what I'm talkin about. I can relate to that.

    Fuck I'm old!

Check him out on the film Wild Style on 3 turntables. Legend.

  • "If your're gonna do work, do work!" all hail to the king!!!

  • sweeeeet

  • ohhh fuckthis is so awsome, never caught this before, been a hip hop dj since 83 and this is just wicked !!!

  • 1 person prefers usb controller dj's .

  • My Name is Susan. I like this music.

  • lol the white guy in the beginning of the video

  • He's so shiny..

  • OMG the last words he said are what ever Hip Hop DJ is doing at the club...one track after another not doing any work smh

  • Awesome man!

  • I've been a turntablist since 1991 and this is heaven footage. I've also never heard these techniques referred to as how he termed them. Very elementary. This is the science in the raw. Perfect. For anyone that wants to know, he's rocking brothers of the 1200mkII's they are 2 SL 1800mkII's.The exact tt's I learned on.

  • Sweet. NEver seen this awesome clip. Now, just imagine this, but the nucleus in 1976..seeing that shit! wow. Neverending inspiration from these talented and creative humans. Thanks Inner City Children of the apocolypse!

  • epic

  • He really got a nice Jacket there! Damn! :D

  • Love it,Thanks for posting from London England,Respect!

  • oldschool mixing the real shit thats the way its done....

  • i love you grandmaster!!!!

  • I love the way it sound when he mixes billie jean with wanna be startin somethin' ....mixing in the middle of the song and not just at the end from one song to the next...

  • ...this is how mixing is done!! I still mix using vinyl without the use of a computer like flash...

  • @nankdogg it's dignified man. I use both, as they do compliment each other. ..but I stuck with Serato, not CD's.

  • I think I cried for about 20 seconds. This is what DJing is about. Like an audiophile, but with less money and a lot more vinyl.

  • Legend and inspiration no doubt!! From 4:15 to about 4:35 you actually see the man hold a mix for a bit. Usually it's cuts and scratched to the next record. Nice!

  • SL 1600 mk 2 TURNTABLES CLASSICS

  • this kind of deejaying is going to disappear very soon! because the computers are taking over;(

  • YO THAT WAS NICE. MAKES ME JUST WANNA SELL AWAY MY SERATO!!!!!!!

  • Amazing stuff!

  • I liked his slipmats =D

  • Ooooold schooOOOLLLL!!

  • How does his lower back not get sore from the decks being so low?

  • Those are most likely Technics SL-1600s. They probably were cheaper than 1200s at the time. Watch his Wild Style segment and he's using them there too. They have the same motor as the 1200, just no rubber base and no slide pitch control. It's more of a consumer model, but still very cool.

  • @qahtani He was using Technics SL 1800 mk2 as they were fully manual, while the 1600 mk2 were automatic.

  • This guy started it all. Dope!

  • they didnt have technics yet :)

  • @mrafuks WHAT !? i'd say 1972 came before 1983 - check Wikipedia for the straight dope on the SL-1200 decks & this line from the promotional material on panasonics' (technics parent company) website says it best: "Remember what DJs used in the club before the 1200s? Nobody else does either."

  • @twofreek lol They were using Thorens Turntables...
