  • That's it, I am buying only a midi keyboard, all the rest will be controlled by my mouse, I just hate midi mapping.

  • you were awesome with the Scoobidoo resonance! hahahahaha!

  • is there a motor in the fadors

  • Hi!

    Nice Review!

What happens with the faders when using them for the mixer(Reason 6 in my case). If i switch between the mixer banks (1-8 ,9-16 etc) then obviously the fader wont move to its "software postion" as it is not motorized, so once i move the physical fader, will the level jump to where ever the actual physical fader sits on the Zero SL or do i have to move the fader past the software position(in Reason) to "catch" it before its affected?

    hope this makes sense....

    Cheers

  • @bruunm1975 Makes perfect sense. However I believe the behavior is set by the DAW not the controller and Reason I am not familiar with. I know in live you set it to scale, jump or catchup but again I am not in the know on Reason sorry.

  • how do you select what channel's effects you are modifying ?

  • Automap works with this correct? If so does it save the mapping preset?

  • @BIGCTV18 Yes sir

  • @TheDSPproject yes i officially love this even more the keyboard does the same as well

  • I'm planning to buy this midi controller to use it for live mixing in Reason 5 ,

would be too complicated to use for a beginner ? or I will be fine ?

Thank you for this professional review ;)

  • @Pl4sm0 You should be ok, be prepared to spend some time to get to know it well though. But hey that should be all part of the fun.

Dont worry you will be fine...

  • Thanks for the great review. One question: Can the faders on the zero still be used to control pan, send, and return levels? The SLMKii 61 key has three extra buttons to the right of the faders that change the faders to control pan, send, and return levels. The zero doesn't have these three buttons. But can it still do it somehow? Thanks.

  • @tomwinnus Been a while since I had this unit but I dont THINK so. I think its intended you will use the knobs for these duties. Sorry I cant give you a solid answer off the top of my head, if your thinking about buying it I would suggest reading the manual first.

    Thanks

  • hahahaha sausage fingers

  • are the faders motorized?

  • @Fuzzels65 Yep any new mac will have enough power for most audio tasks.

  • Worst Unit if you have 64 bit windows, but works on Mac fine! :)

  • @ParanoidSlothStudios You're probably too stupid for a pc.

  • @RoboticusMusic I have spent countless hours trying to figure out why some buttons won't act like buttons on ableton, windows 64 bit. So I took it back into the shop, they tested it on there Macs and it worked perfectly. If you do own the ZERO SL MKll and have had similar issues, please reply with a helpful comment.

  • @ParanoidSlothStudios No it was not windows fault period.

  • @RoboticusMusic okay bill gates, then explain why it works on Mac and not PC. I'm not blaming windows either, It could be the novation software. Thanks for another helpful comment. :) :) :)

  • @ParanoidSlothStudios "[their] macs". I dont know why the hell a musician with a MIDI device is messing with technology thats to much for them. Maybe you should stick to garage band.

  • @Fuzzels65 I would definitely recommend buying a Launchpad (I have 2 because they are just that awesome!) for 2 reasons:

1). Very cool multi-functional controller that encourages you to map the 2 user settings in very cool ways (the limit is your imagination).

2). As I mentioned in my comment above, the SL doesn't have an Automap setting for Ableton Live, it does with the plugins but not to control the mixer (unless you map it on every project) but I prefer to use the mixer setting on the...

  • @SamIves85 ...Launchpad (which is another good reason to buy 2; 1 for launching clips and the 2nd one to do whatever with.

As an example of what you can do with just a single launchpad, check out my Arcacia video on my channel :)

  • I bough the 25SL MkII not even knowing about Automap and I have to say that it's a very useful feature. It might be noteworthy though that that the 25SL and the Zero do not have Ableton Live compatible Automap templates but rather a knock-off "advanced mode" which never works for me despite my efforts. Also, the X/Y pad is hard to control and is jumpy at times. That being said I am very pleased with the rest of it, had fun mapping plugins etc...

Also, "Coming at her from the backside..." lol

  • @SamIves85 This is true, but you cant automaticly control the mixer? My review unit could, somethings not right man. I assume you have followed the setup guide from Novation and selected the Ableton "advanced mode" template?

  • @TheDSPproject I followed the instructions for the Advanced Mode but no joy. I would really like them to sort out an Automap preset for Live but until then I'm happy with the Launchpad for that. So what made you decide on getting a ZeroSL as opposed to a 25SL? For me it was the addition of the keyboard (the keys feel great btw!), joystick and X/Y pad (even if it is a little temperamental). Also my two M-Audio keyboards disconnected whenever there was an electrical spike (in clubs AND at home!!!)

  • @SamIves85 The faders map automaticly on mine. Try setup LIVE as per Novations guide. Make sure you have the latest firmware for the SL. Select the Ableton Advanced mode template. It def works on this unit I have here. I didnt decide on it Novation sent it out to me for review, saddly it will have to go back soon.

    Thanks.
