theres a vending machine in toronto ontario canada that is actually supposed to be a clothing shop. i think its the only 1. u simply pay and pick ur fashion. no long lines

Why so many vending machines in one country?...getting eggs...Rice...batterys..ladies underwear..and so on and so on..it amazes me that japan has so many vending machines..is it because the country is over populated?..And is english there 2nd languae?....Cheers from Pennyslvaina

@Midnightryder7 I suppose its the density of the population. More people packed together. A convenience store every block in some areas and still vending machines right next door. They compete with each other and still seem to make money. Japan is all about convenience and quick satisfaction. On the way to work... stopping at a machine to get a coffee instead of going inside a convenience store can save you valuable minutes. Things are very much like western consumerism but way more intense.

I'd like to also add to that since labor is very expensive in Japan, vending machines cuts down the costs a lot.

@Midnightryder7 Well ........yes. Most wouldn't but many do. I have seen teens drinking and smoking in the park but not much. Getting cigarettes is harder due to TASPO card ID system. Some beer machines are slowly catching up on this. Hey I started drinking when I was in my last year of HS. The law never stopped me. I never went crazy and became a threat to society either. The strong will handle it and grow up the others will fair in a less graceful way.

@Arkylahk Well the only thing that stops kids is a Taspo card and that's for tobacco. Its an ID card for smokers. The rest is up to family values:)

O.k. its 20 years old to buy anything like booze or porn or smokes but so far the only machines that are not left up to conscience are the cigarette machines. The other machines like beer and stuff are on timers or usually not anywhere near schools. Good question thanks!

No the only machines with age cards are cigarette machines. The other machines are not age verified. Minors close to the age limit are frequently served alcohol at bars unless they are obviously to young. Its not that strictly enforced but it is getting harder. I have only been carded a few times and only at chain restaurants...

CaptKillerSF, They are usually USED women's underwear. They also have machines with USED SCHOOLGIRLS' underwear. There are different prices based on such attributes as age and hair color of the girl who supposedly wore them.

I just know that religion is not how they pass laws in Japan... its concensus. That may be a big part of the reason but I am not sure. People here tend to accept sexuality as nature not the devil. Hope that helps

Actually its only about 120 yen for a drink and snacks at the convience store are a few hundred yen...its not to bad but its not healthy to live on vending either..... its still fun:)

Cool! I'm a total japanese Vending machine otaku! I love them. It's so cool how you can get just about anything in them. And you know when they say you could live out of one. My mom and I could. Well a couple of them. God I want to live their so badly!
