I am not his friend. I have actually been quite pissed of surfing in the same line up as he at Lo Jolla Shores. More so because he takes of from the nose on waves I am getting pearled on. Doesn't matter though, he is still the best long boarder ever.

@vandalay - the thing about joel is he doesn't care for arrogance, fakes, kooks, or sellouts. he's a lot like curren & hamilton in that respect. so, chances are, if he wasn't very receptive to you it's probably because you exhibit one of the above qualities. i've known him for almost 20 years & have never seen him act rudely towards anyone who wasn't bringing it on themselves.
