Funnily enough, it WAS at a prim and proper all-boys boarding school! He wore them in the evenings after school. It was his example that encouraged some of us to buy leather jeans and wear them.
Casual clothing was OK in the evenings at at weekends after Saturday morning school.
Parachute pants and glossy plastic pants were still part of the fashion trend in 1987-88 when I was in school and first wearing leather jeans. Leather pants were just an extension of that fashion trend. I don't think others followe suit for two reasons... 1)it wasn't that radical back then and 2) leather pantes were a lot more expensive than parachute pants. I just wanted the look, smell and feell of leather.
denim and leather............brought us all together!

Where in the UK would you wear leatherpants to school? Or was it on non-uniform day?

I remember wearing my leather pants a lot to high school. I was the only one though. No one thought it was strange or anything.

Surprising that others weren't inspired by your example. We certainly were fired up by our mate.
