  • I have that same guitar in red!

  • @contact1araya ...dude it's a fender stratocaster. you and like 2,000,000 other people have that guitar

  • @HellolzEveryone not a 94 anniversary issue SMART ASS!!!

  • @contact1araya my mistake sir, continue

  • The best way o learn hybrid picking is to lose your pick altogether for a while and try to play the same stuff you did with a pick. You will discover the necessity of hybrid picking to pull off most of what you play with a pick, which will then teach you the hybrid-picking and fingerstyle technique. Some stuff you will just never be able to play without the pick, and others you will never get without hybrid-picking or Travis/fingerstyle either. Happy plucking!

  • what is weird about this is that every time i see someone doing it they use a stratocaster :P

  • did somebody say "redneck"?

  • chickin pickin is typically hybrid..is this something different?

  • That aint chickin pickin, but good lesson anyhow!

  • Really cool lesson, thanks!!!

  • La verdad muchas gracias, no se que mas agregar. Muchas gracias.

  • you could always just play with all down strokes like tom delonge :D

  • That aint CHICKIN PICKIN ?????

  • good lesson, thnx!!!

  • Thanks for the video. it really helped me out!

  • very good lesson dude!

  • I love this stuff!!!!!!!!

  • Is the guitar a players deluxe?

  • @workt71 yes

  • Are his strings a bit "bigger" than usual or is it just the camera?

  • @xXPredraGXx he might use a higher gauge like me i use 11 to 12 gauge strings

  • So geht das also!

  • i have the same guitar but instead of blue it is sunburst and i also have that same pickgaurd

    wooooooooot woman

  • I like these organ licks...

  • mmm the feeling of new guitar strings

  • is it easier with long nails on the middle and third finger?

  • On the pickin' hand, or the fretting hand? Actually, I guess it doesn't matter too much because it sounds better if you keep your nails short and build up callouses on your fingers on both hands. It hurts like a bitch for a while, but it's worth it in the long run. You don't have to worry about your nails, and skin doesn't usually catch on strings if you take care of em'. Hope that helped some.

  • i dont have finger nails. ( well, i do but they are very short....lol.) its hard for me to get that sharp popping sound just playing with my fingers. ive heard of some people with short nails using fake press on nails on a couple of fingers and trimming them down. any ideas to help me get that sharp popping sound with just my fingers?

  • Fake nails damage your real ones. Eat gelatin type snacks and build up those callouses. The thicker the callous, the sharper the sound. It also depends on how hard you're picking with your fingers. Send me a PM if you have any trouble.

  • I forgot to mention the why about the gelatin. Apparently, it's supposed to help strengthen cartilage, so you'll keep some fingernail there. That should give your pickin' a sharper tone.

  • @clewi1091 Use fingerpicks. It's a carry-over from banjo players, which is what chickin' pickin' emulates.

  • @gantman actually it hurts alot if u catch a string between the fingernail, so build callouses

  • I actually learned something. Sucks I'm at work and didn't bring a guitar with me. AWESOME!!! -=80)

  • haha... same here.

  • Sweet! Nice vid, really useful

  • when you said slower tempo you sounded like johnny cash

  • DUDE!! this was so awesome!!!!

  • great explanation, great camera angles, great guitar! thanks a lot for this.

  • I don't know why people make videos like that. But thanks, you helped me! =]

  • Isn't that a Fender Deluxe player's strat? and is it good...? :p

  • Strings made of... spaghetti!

  • this is hybrid pickin, chicken picking it with the thumb, middle finger and the 4th finger

    great lick!!!

  • Actually chicken pickin is a rhythm style not a specific technique.

Thumbpick and fingers, flatpick and fingers...

    It don't matter.

  • cool stuff

  • is that not hybrid picking?

  • I had a question on this and checked out Wikipedia. Look up "chicken picking". That clarifies things a bit, then there's a link to "hybrid picking" that clarifies it even further.

  • this taught me something, but it really ISN'T chicken picking, it's a combined technique of double-stops over a pedal tone, but thanks for the vid!

  • I absolutely love the pickguard-body color combo

  • If you think this is picking, then maybe you should listen to the guv Albert Lee, now thats picking.

  • of course albert lee plays faster and more complicated chicken picking, but this still is chicken picking.

  • There are a few young pickers that have to start at the beginning.......even though you were doing this from birth!

  • massa!! VALEU POR COMPARTILHAR!

  • sorry to tell you thats not chicken picking ^_^

  • Sure this is chicken picking...what do YOU think it is?

  • I light your effort, thanks.

  • Great lesson. Very concise and optimal camera angle.

  • ya and cock sucking is for people like you

  • orly?

  • anyways you can play it with disotrtion and wah? haha I am trying to figure this exact lick in zakk wydles playing lol. Good stuff though!

  • i thought this is called hybrid picking

  • it's one and the same.

hillbillies and people who dig country like chicken pickin' better

  • I agree, although I'd add that chicken picking is characterized by the pop and snap of the strings at times

  • yeah, that is true

  • No, they're not - why does nobody know this?????

Chicken picking is a specific technique whereby you pick a muted string, immediatly followed by a stacatto note. It's called chicken picking as it sounds like a chicken clucking. Its only possible to do this with hybrid picking, and thats where the confusion comes from.

  • hybrid picking is the umbrella, chicken picking is a variation

    that what you mean?

  • Well, kind of, you can definitly say this is hybrid picked, but you cannot say it's chicken picked

  • mm okay i think i gotcha

  • I'll have you out this time, great technique

  • thanx alot.nice and slow so i can see whats happinin.

  • Mexican fender deluxe player strat! :D:D

  • How can you tell its mexican?

  • only 21 frets and because its only around 5 or 6 hundred. american strats have "american" labeled to it very proudly and priced much higher

  • cool, thx!

  • cool

  • for that things is "invented" classical guitar an finger picking :/

  • good sound, pretty easy to play aswell.

  • heavy strings?

  • No, 09-42

  • @notme98 stratocaster

  • position 2 I think.
