As a matter of fact that is a major factor. It's much easier to discriminate against someone with a different skin color because one can point them out from across the street. It was skin color that made black people easier to identify and easier to discriminate against, which in turn made them sympathize more with their peers, and made their community stronger. The real problem is when the opressor and the opressed groups have the same skin color.
