  • yes this was the sexual anthem of the late 60s of which 'wild thing' was a parody, also great.

this proves that it wasn't all about white boy's covering black r and b. this is not a cover and not an attempt to mimic black style. if anything it derives from mexican music like la bamba. sloopy would have to be from a bad barrio not a black ghetto because hair hanging down was not the afro style of that time. sure it could imply black mexican or poor white. its simply pure 60s fusion.

  • ron weasley 0:42

  • The lead singer is Rick Derringer who later grew is hair alittle longer and joined up with Edgar Winter and is the lead guitarist on songs Frankenstein and Free Ride. Got to see those guys a few times.Sloopy still makes me feel sooo gooood. My ex boss didn't like this song, that is why he is my ex boss.

  • Singer looks like the friend of Harry Potter

  • Would anyone know if the McCoys are still performing thanks

  • The sound quality may not be great, but the video, and song sure are. All the great songs of the 60's had the best dancing girls, in these videos. Groovy

  • Hot chicks in this video yeah, but I bet they don't look like that now!!

  • @danpfd i wouldn't care..lol

  • I toally love it, the soul dancers, the beats, the jeans, fashions, drummer and the band. I don't think my butt can stay with the chair with this music with The Mccoys.

  • @celosemnexo eu estava la tambem. ele é muito bom mesmo!!

  • 0:55 my mom

  • A time of 'Rebellion' but notice the uniformity In dress, even dance movements.

  • @Nickcat5 Dressing and dancing differently does not make one a rebel.

  • Too bad most of your post say "not on mobil " or "in your country" kind of a drag (sob) !!

  • From a time of age & innocence! This version of "Hang On Sloopy" was written by Bert Berns (R.I.P.), which was adapted from an earlier version titled "My Girl Sloopy". The McCoys peaked @ #1 on Billboard's pop singles chart in October 1965!

Bravo, Rick & Randy Zehringer (Rick Zehringer later became Rick Derringer)!

  • if you guys like this song, check out my playlist "songs". it's got all the classics and it may introduce you to some songs you forgot about!

  • @lucas07700 his name is "Ron."

  • the jerk used to hurt my appendix or spleen or something, but when this song came on I had to do it anyway

  • I remember as a teen living in Hull UK in the 60s and going to a club called kontiki where a deaf kid would just dance to this song.

  • @mellowyellow4902 you should have seen the Hull-aballoos if you´re from Hull, UK

  • @cbimbi lived in Hull until i was 18 never heard of the Hull-aballoos

  • I love that dancing girl with the big hooters on the right! She could be my Sloopy any day of the week.

Cool song, but the singers looked like they were just starting puberty. However, good song with good guitar action.

  • This song was inspired by Dorothy Sloop. A famous Jazz musician who is from my home town of Steubenville, OH. 1913-1998 Would make since that Ohio State would use the song since she was from Ohio.

  • This song is one of the best I've ever heard. Talk about a song full of sexual energy....WOW. Just goes to show you don't have to be graphic to be sensual like alot of todays garbage music....what's happened to classy music like this?

  • O-H-I-O.

  • @hibachi4491 you mean I-N-D-I-A-N-A ? (the McCoys)

  • They had Ginger's back then?

  • I wonder if they were singing about Sloopy Slales? He was around about that time. were they the "real" McCoys?

  • I've always loved this song. Don't know why!!.... perhaps cos it's so raw and just keeps thumping away, getting more intense, till it reaches a fantastic crescendo.... much like a pasttime that teenage guys were always trying to participate in!!!!!!

  • Oh take me back to them days.

  • This track has the best go go dancers ever!!

  • Wow, Rick is just adorable here! I never knew how young they all even looked when this was recorded. And that's always been one of my favorite 60's guitar solos.

  • this will forever be my song. i hate that most of my friends diss it just cuz its not that crap they play on the radio today. i am a teenager who lives in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's.

  • I love this song!

  • well i dont know about the rest of you but i heard this on the doors movie

  • I met Rick in Tucson right after a show in the early '90s. As a fan of his from his days with Johnny Winter's Band, around the time he (Rick) wrote the classic "Rock 'n' Roll, Hoochie Coo," I asked him to sign my business card, of all things, and he couldn't have been nicer.... You are a class act and a uniquely talented guitarist, Rick, and I hope you "Hang On," forever! Craig C. (craiger20005@yahoo.com)

    I-44-VV-44

  • Great video and song!!!******

    Olga/

  • Check out Rick Derringer killing it on guitar and vocals. I think they were still in high school or barely out of it when they did this one.

  • Go to Cedar Point Ohio if you like this song

  • oh yeah, and O! H! I! O! You know this will be rocked at our wedding.

  • good old buckeyes :D

  • Set the way back Sherman, were going back to the days when real people played real music.

  • We need a renaissance of this sort of fun, melodic-garage-pop music. Even a huge chunk of the kids today know that this sort of stuff still rocks, and beats the pants off Justin Bieber, Ke$ha, Soulja Boy, Lil' Wayne, Katy Perry, Nickelback, etc. Luckily, YouTube is here to educate a lot of people as to what good music is.

  • @Catdude5000 check out Fergus and Geronimo. A bunch of their songs are just that (Powerful Lovin', Unlearn, Harder Than Its Ever Been). Check 'em out man!

  • @Catdude5000 check out Fergus and Geronimo. A bunch of their songs are just that (Powerful Lovin', Unlearn, Harder Than Its Ever Been). Check 'em out man!

  • @Catdude5000 dude check out Fergus and Geronimo. Some of their songs (unlearn, powerful lovin) are just that!

  • @Catdude5000 Well said !!! I completly concur.

  • @Catdude5000 That sounds great, but what would be better is more garage PUNK bands like The Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Sex Pistols, *Black Flag*, etc. Don't get me wrong, what you said would still be awesome.

  • @Catdude5000 it's happening! Marvelous Darlings, Jay Reatard, the Carbonas... hell even the strokes, the White Stripes blah blah blah. just have to dig, it's still there.

  • @Catdude5000 Actually there area lot of fun garage bands going the last few years. King Khan and Bbq Show, Nobunny, Fevers, Rantouls, etc.

  • that guy is way cooler than ron weasley

  • Could've used a little 'orthodontics' eh, Rick?

  • @BCK I long for the day when the beauty of this music is far more notable to the youtube-watching public than what could possibly be construed as a slight physical imperfection of the person singing it.

  • I love Snoopy!

  • WOW... He does look like Rupert Grint! =D

  • Check out the line up for Fraze Concert Venue in Kettering Ohio for this summer...yes Rick Derringer will be performing...tickets went on sale this morning for them ...great line up this summer for 60's bands !

  • whenever i hear classic rock on cola 99.9, they always sound like the beatles.

  • Rick Derringer never ages, it's like that book Picture of Dorian Gray! He is a vastly underrated guitarist. I saw him play a few times with Edgar Winter's White Trash in the old days and man, he was great! He has played with many great performers over the years and does nice solo albums still.

  • i have to play this song on my clarinet for band

  • @tboo151 Ha! Funny!

  • @tboo151 Ha! Funny! Maybe you should go wild and do a clarinet solo in the middle.

  • GO BUCKS!!

  • sept 1965 this song was on the Cafateria juke box 24 hrs a day on the Naval Base at A school.

    Wakegan? illinois

    EM club played POLKA MUSIC

  • Always have loved Derringer,he was already good then.

  • I've always loved Rick Derringer's playing. Check out the Johnny Winter And Live album....some great playing from Johnny and Rick.

Funny, seeing Rick in these old videos in his teens, he looks more like he does currently.

  • Weasley and the Potter Band

  • I hope Sloopy's dad did dentistry.

  • helmet hair.Rock on,young dudes.

  • official song of Ohio

  • Rick Derringer was a pretty good guitar player, and singer, at the age of 16. He later became the rock god guitar player with Edgar Winter's White Trash.

  • Looks like a HOFNER "Beatle" bass. Sounds like one too! Crank it up. hk

  • sweet

  • I didn't know Harry Potter's friend could sing..!!

  • Look at the beatnick from 2:08 - 2:18. That guy is the real Mccoy, I mean the real deal.

  • Sloopy? Oh my - all this time I thought he's been saying SNOOPY!

  • I think for this time, this solo is very underrated too.

  • Those guys must have had some great weed.

  • Was Rick Derringer the lead singer on this 1? Billboard's 184th #1 hit of the rock era. God bless!

  • WOOT RICK DERRINGER FROM UNION CITY INDIANA!

  • That's Rick Derringer on guitar and vocals. Much later he played ,recorded, and toured

with Johnie Winters. He became quite accomplished.

  • @hironniejames: Yeah that's Rick Derringer.

  • official song of ohio

  • Amen mikemantel!

  • I remenber my girlfriend calling LUPE many years ago

  • RON WEASLEY!!!!!

  • @WeGrowPeace

Ron Weasley?!? WHAT THE FUCK? I was going to sarcastically ask when "Family Guy" will ruin this song. But looks like "Harry Potter" beat them to it, and your little brain thinks this is a Ron Weasley song.

  • calm the fuck down. He does look like Weasley, there's nothing you can do about it

  • Comment removed

  • sloopy is a word that sounds like it would be used to describe a worn out hookers money maker, the lyrics would fit that too.

  • Doesnt the singer look like Weasly from Harry Potter :)

  • @scrappyduke don't you mean doesn't weasly look the singer of The McCoys?

  • rick drringer went on to the edgar winter group and johnnys winters white trash the album was called they only come out at night

  • God I was young when I met them...Where has has the time gone?

  • I'd like to meet the girl dancing by the drum set on the right, awesome moves!

  • @medeerbeer Unfortunately, by now she is about 65 years old.

  • @medeerbeer her name is Shelly Bonis, ex wife to Richard Pryor.

  • @mikemantel sorry Shelly Bonus.

  • I'm digging the girl in the black dress dancing next to Rick!!

  • wen i was a wee lil girl i would sing "HANG ON STUPID" lol thats what i thought they said.. til this day my fam still make fun of me cuz of that lol .. great song

  • those were the days,oh how i miss them,I don't understand how these new bands get to the top when alot of these kids nowadays listen to the "OLDIES"

  • Was Rick Derringer(Rock'n'Roll Hootchie Coo-1974) in the McOys?

  • @taynardi

YEs, same Guy, he is now 63 and living in Ohio.

  • @latinoguy Yes he was I know him personally watch Frankenstien Edgar Winter Group!

  • @taynardi He is the same. I saw him play at The Rave in Milwaukee and he played this and Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo

  • what year did this come out?

  • @TearsofaGhost 1965, A Great Year For Music

  • yah when my friend and i saw the main singer playing with Ringo in his all star band, he mentioned that theres a missing verse. record producers cut it

  • who the hell is sloopy? why is it called sloopy?

  • @emmycm99 Named for singer Dorothy Sloop, who called herself Sloopy on stage.

  • @emmycm99

Sloopy is the name of the girl he loves.

Not to be confused with Snoopy, who is

a beagle dog from the comic strip (funny papers)

    "Peanuts".

  • i hate ron howard who invented this

  • i hate ron howaed who invented this billshit

  • The Beatles and Rolling Stones kicked our for a while, but the US and Canada invented Garage Rock; we should get credit for that!!!!

  • Yeah gang. . .there was A time when A white kid did not have to sing like A black woman to get A break into the music business.

  • I've always been an Ohio State fan but I never truly appreciated the original version of this song. Now that I've listened to it again I don't think I'll ever claim the ohio state marching band version as my favorite.

  • Connie West is much better with it's fake robot simulated voice. I'm just agreeing with all of you, right? So So I guess we are all waiting for a Christmas Album, I'm I right, with Connie, singing its famous fake simulated robot voice on all the classic Christmas songs. So oh yea, I can't wait to. I'm gonna be in the back with the Four Tops stringing my noose with em if I don't slip and break my neck on all the vomit.

  • Go Bucks!

  • You can convert this or any youtube video to an mp3 at soundnabber..com

  • hang on snoopy, lol. who here used to think it was hang on snoopy when they were a kid? i did.

  • @SunshineSuperman0999 There were kids who had major arguments on whether it was Sloopy or Snoopy.
