Why would Shelby get mixed up with Lute when he's already married? She loves Mead and Mead loves her and is ready to marry her. She may have found Lute attractive, but lust is not love. Once the lost wears off, you've got nothing else to hold you there if love is not in the picture. She realized that in the end.
#TEAMMEADE!!! It sucks that Shelby's parents have a crappy marriage, but at least they both support their daughters... just as the mother said, "that's one good thing" that came from it.
the woman who played Lute's wife was in another mini series with Halle Berry where she played Halle's character's step mother. It was called Alex Hayle's Queen.
@D22queen no she wasn't. In Queen, Hale had no stepmother. Her mother, Easter, was played by Jasmine Guy. If you mean the woman who took her end after emancipation, that character was played by actress Lonette Mckee.
I agree lunargoddess2002, everyone is saying he need to leave her alone, but she continues to feed into him. I'm sorry but if I'm have not an ounce of interest or attraction to someone, no matter how many letters, stares, or whatever, they gets no play. She had "something" for Lute..maybe not as strong as Meade, but there was something there, even a bit of infatuation....but on the real, after 3 hours of watching this...I wish her and Meade just gon' n get married already! lol
Mizvictor07, Why would you ever need to have that conversation? Wouldn't it be obvious from the beginning if a person loved you or not ...just like it is here in this movie with the mother and father.
And isn't it common sense anyway? How the hell are you going to "MAKE" somebody love you?...If they don't love you then they just don't love you...no one had to "make" you love them right...ok then. I thought that everyone knew that you can't "make" someone want or love you...that is THEIR choice
Where would the mother have learned what real love was like or how a person acts when they really love you? From Gram? From watching her parent's marriage? It's just a tragic situation.
Well, I took the description from the DVD casing. So take it up with them. She was torn between them. She loved Meade but she was attracted to Lute and didn't know what to do. Lute got into her head and had her all messed up. Just my opinion. She was attracted to Lute fo sho!
Yeah, and I don't think that the description is completely accurate. She wasn't torn between them. She was with Meade, and Lute was kind of just clinging on to her.
Oh, she wanted Lute. She wanted him but wasn't sure. Something in her said that it would be easier to be with Lute and another part of her loved Meade. There was attraction between her and Lute. He had her doubting her intentions with Meade.
She shouldnt have married Mead; he didn't love her.

@lunargoddess2002 Yeah, maybe they just didn't pick the right actor. If Lute was fine we could probably all see it.
