@Nabelnoir cool. They also use it in the end credits and during space fight scenes. Great use of early pre-computer animation. Had this show been shown as intended in 1980, it would've done well in the ratings a year before Hanna Barbera's most popular show that year, The Smurfs, which aired on the same network as this show, NBC.
@kascnef82 Agreed. I always liked the Space Stars end credits. It was nice to see HB do some action end credits after mainly doing still end credits for their programs.
why did seanmmc114 get his account suspended? He posted all those closing credits to cartoons and shows. Maybe it's because of the new copyright shit that Youtube is doing, which is good for Youtube but bad for video fans.
The only segment that didnt quite fit was Astro and the Space Mutts, it would've fit better back to back with Galaxy Goof-Ups starring Yogi Bear and Huckleberry Hound.
The first time I ever saw Space Ghost and the Herculoids cartoons were these episodes from Space Stars that aired on the USA Cartoon Express in the 80's. I also saw and enjoyed the Teen Force, but I never saw Astro and the Space Mutts. I never saw the classic Space Ghost and Herculoids until Cartoon Network in the 90's. The 80's episodes I recalled used the same music tracks heard on the SuperFriends series. But then again, animation studios tended to use the same tracks on all their shows.
When Space Stars went into syndicatopm, the Astro segment was removed from the opening credits and content. You are correct in that Hanna Barbera used a lot of the same music from the early 60's all the way up to the 80's.
Because of new corny censorship laws on saturday morning Space Ghost and the Herculoids could no longer blow up and beat the living hell out of bad guys.
They had to find less violent ways of beating bad guys!
I liked the oringinals better, but this show was still far better then most of the other cartoon junk on the other channels at the time.
That's funny. I faintly remember that. Not just cartoons but sitcoms- they were all trying to be two things at once- entertaining, and socially conscious- but they just weren't creative enough at the time to present a message without ruining the enjoyment of the show. Being a Christian, I'm all about having a message, but man, how many times did we sit down to laugh and ended up feeling like we were back in school or real uneasy because all the talk on illiteracy, pedofiles, anorexia and drugs?
I love how the beginning of the opening has the yellow outlines of the charcters scrolling upwards....Almost like a that famous space movie we all know with the scrolling words in the opening. Any chance you could post the closing credits?
This show was unbelievable. The classic characters of the 60's get an update and the animation was much better - not to discredit the 60's classic shows of course - but this opening made The Herculoids look more epic.
Space Stars was split up into 2 half-hour shows [The New Space Ghost/Herculoids Show and Space Stars with Space Ghost And The Teen Force] on the USA Cartoon Express in the 80s and the Space Ghost, Herculoids, and Astro And The Space Mutts segments were also shown on Cartoon Network and Boomerang in the 90s.
hope they come out with that show on DVD!!! First mention of Space Ace before a videogame of the same name came out (no relation to Space Ace arcade).
Always loved Teen Force. They were like the Teen Titans and X-Men combined.

Astro and the Space Mutts now air after certain Boomerang cartoons when there's a few minutes left in the half hour.

Astro and the Space Mutts was a spinoff of The Jetsons.

The Space Stars cartoon was to have debuted on NBC in the 1980-1981 season but the actors strike delayed the show until the 1981-1982 season.

Right Darryl, it's seen in the 1980 NBC Saturday morning lineup ad.

and if you freeze the tape or DVD, you can see the 1980 copyright date on the closing credits.
