Don't know if this was already mentioned but if I'm not mistaken no matter how many players are playing you have to start out with all 4 highlight reels (2.50).
The difference is that if only two players are playing, once two highlight reel cards have players on them the other two are removed.
I bought this game, like it but I am a little confused over a couple of rules.. Even after reading the rule book several times.. Anyone help??
1. I assume you need to lay all cards in your hand .. If you lay all cards on 1 matchup what happens to the star rating..? Do I total them up or only play the top card.?
2. Is there a way to cull cards?
3. When a player is knocked down can you keep tackling it unroll it's injured..?
1) you add up all the star ratings of everyone at the match up (including the downed/tapped players)
2) The only way you can get rid of cards is through getting "free booter star players". When you draft them, you pick a player from your team and you replace that player.
3) Yes you can, but only one tackle per tackle symbol. I.e. if you have 2 tackle symbols, you can tackle a guy and tackle him again in hope of injuring him, or tackle another player at the same match up. :)
@lpdude72 "2) The only way you can get rid of cards is through getting "free booter star players". When you draft them, you pick a player from your team and you replace that player."
do you mean if i pick up a freebooter star player i can discard a card from my hand..?
when tackling players at a match up, can i choose any player to tackle.. i have been playing it, that only the latest player to be laid at the match up is tackled...
@Flipsidesolutions 1) Nope, you look through your deck, pick a player (i.e. a lineman), put that player aside (back in the box) and replace that player with the freebooter, and then shuffle your deck.
2) You can choose any player to tackle at the match up (obviously not your own!) whether they are standing or on their side. That way you can go for the ball carrier, use the guard ability when one of your players is getting tackled, etc.
@lpdude72 Hey, do you have to either use or decide not to use a players skill when you put them down? Ex: I lay a player down that has the tackle ability, but wait until my next turn to use it. And do I have to use skills from left to right? Thanks for any help
@HogiBear2021. 1) You can only play the abilities on the turn you have committed a player (placed them down on to the table). You can't play them later. 2) You can choose to do their abilities (passing, sprinting and tackling) except for cheating (which is mandatory!) 3) Yep you have to play the abilities from Left to Right. I.e. Tackle, Pass, Cheat. You may Tackle, Pass, but you have to Cheat. you can just Tackle or Pass and then Cheat, but you can't Pass, Tackle, then Cheat.
@HogiBear2021 Yes, you have to use the tackle skill right when you play the card or not at all.
And yes, skills must be used from left to right. You might notice, some of the have sprint before tackle and some the other way around, making it slightly riskier to use tackle.
I'm going to hold out for an expansion, I think, and pick them both up in one swoop. Too bad there's no chance my beloved Chaos Dwarfs will be included.
This is right at the top of my wish list! I'm buying this the moment I spot it for sale. I'm already a huge fan of the original Blood Bowl, the miniatures game.
Great review - I really felt like I got a sense of the game. For me, that sense is "no thanks!" but that's what a review is for, right? To help us find the right game and the game find the right audience. Well done.
Good review Tom. Thanks for bringing up the point of the mixed reviews from others. I've always been interested in Blood Bowl it self, but I don't think I could get any of my friends to play it regularly. I've also been interested in a "team manager" game, first with Basketboss and now with the release of this. I think a "team manger" game would be better... but I'll still have to research further to decide which would be a better fit for my group. Or maybe I'll keep it simple with SlapShot
Great review. I'm a big fan of the miniature game and this looks equally as fun/wacky/random. For those that haven't played it, the dice add wildness to the best laid plans. But the fun theme is where it's at.
@TimmyTheNerd I'm pretty sure he reviewed Chaos in the Old World a month or two ago. If I recall, he said the gameplay was great, but the theme was much too dark for his taste.
This is a great game. I never win, but always enjoy playing it :D

@Flipsidesolutions Check out FFG's TUTORIAL VIDEOS, they'll help answer your first question at least...

@buggrititeltem yeah, seen them.. i have it figured out now i think..
You lay as many cards as you want on any 1 match up (6 in your hand) you can cull cards with various special cards.
You can only have 6 cards in your hand.. so the most you can play is 6.
1 thing i am not sure of is if you shuffle you deck after every season 'week'

Looks like it would be fun once in a while as a time-filler, but it definitely would not replace Blood Bowl. Thanks for the review, Tom!
