I love this song, It's so beautiful and reminds me of many things. Vocaloid songs often have lovely meanings. I love hachi, his songs are marvellous. Wonderful.
Its like every impossible is impossible, its like making the rain stop, its like snow in a desert, its like everything is coming for me to absorb....its like now that final question is being aswered and told to me and its like nothing else you could see in the universe
Well this is just argh! I cant take it...im still crying! I cant believe it, mygosh Its like infinite reality and meaning reasons and stuff, are now all making sense to me Its like imagining the whole universe out there Its like going there to another galaxy and experiencing it And i am astonished And its like nothing else ive ever seen in my whole life And its like peace Its finally the time Its finally the part But somethin is still unexplained, is there somethin out there tellin me something?
lol miku inspired me to write songs, so I got the garageband app on my iPad, then I looked up GarageBand on the internet, found out Rihana used it to write Umbrella, then I looked up Umbrella on the Internet, and this is the first thing that came up. Funny how it all loops back to Miku in the end, isn't it?i think Vocaloids secretly control people's destinies and we really don't know about it :D I mean, she's why I'm writing songs and learning Japanese and drawing anime ^^
@fierfly567 we can still assume that mr./ms. Hypophora's theory is what works in the world's end umbrella universe, though- let's say that the sun has reached the point where it will begin to die, and has started its growth as a super-star or something xD
the theory is also kinda supported by the last few lines of the song, and the human figure cowering under the sun's light in the girl's storybook. :>
My interpretation is that people were slowly taught to think the sun was bad for their health. Creating an umbrella to block it. But that boy and girl knew those stories weren't true. He was tired of the endless rain both of them took the adventure to the top of the umbrella only to see the truth, how the sun was perfectly fine. She throws away the book that told tales of the sun for she now could feel and see it herself. They fall asleep happily to the suns warmth.
OMG! This reminds me of a book that i was assainged to read in Laguage arts class and the book was called " Summer in a day" And the perople never saw the sun except for one girl :O
I wouldn't compare City of Ember to this song, really. I think Gurren Lagann is more similar to that book than this is.
Aside from that or whatnot though, I really love this song and this PV <3 I didn't really get the song when I first saw the original text-only PV, but this version is beautiful ^^
Owww I love this song ^u^ and i dont know why but its so...mmmm beautiful :D and i dont know its waa soo happy and sad at the same time but so cute arrr well everyone understand this in their own way x3
@luckyluckydia lol :D glad to hear i wasnt the only one who thought that. ...huh... actually there are a couple comments about that now, isnt there? xD
My interpretation of this video is that the "umbrella" was constructed in order to preserve human civilization at a future time when the sun's radiation has become so extreme as to be deadly (perhaps the partial disintegration of the ozone layer). Although the boy and girl were able to observe the long forgotten sun, they both succumbed to radiation poisoning soon afterwards.
I agree, and I'm going to add that I think that people constructed large subterranean cities, (maybe when it wasn't so bad, and they could still move on the surface without any trouble) maybe because of limited space for overpopulation, so it isn't exactly an "umbrella". (This kind of reminds me of The City of Ember in a lot of ways, just looking at it.) :)
I think the umbrella symbolizes the way we judge things based on how the media supplies us with information, with lies and half-truths. The bit at 1:40 could mean that few people can see past the general assumptions, but for those who can, the world is 100% the way they see it, not others' views, and reveals its beauty to them, not marred by others' prejudice.
I'm confused... Is this or is the version with the flute and piano and electric keyboard in the beginning the original version of "World's End Umbrella"? I'm getting all mixed up...
@BerrySubs This is the remade version. THE WORLD END UMBRELLA, which has a different intro, different verses, and a mouse-drawn PV with the lyrics making pictures, is the original.
This is the reason why i listen to vocaloids more than mainstream music. Here you can get an actual message and it can bring you to tears. And the mainstream music? It's just too shallow; it's like every song talks about sex, drugs, 'i love you so much', 'why did you leave me' etc.
@AyaSteel I so agree with you. My friends think I'm weird because I don't listen to the same songs as them, but maybe they can't understand what real music is. They just listen to what's number one on charts, they don't even think a little about the lyrics (which are always the same in these times, always about a boy and a girl, or about sex... like you said.).
I'm not saying I don't like this kind of music, but I try to interest myself in something else.
@JeremyB796 Well, really, it is a story about a giant umbrella that was constructed to cover the city. The people in the city never saw the sun, so yeah, it was an unhappy world. The couple, sick of their world, want to see the sky, so they venture into the tower, being the first ones to go in in who knows how long. So they reach the top and see this beautiful world, with the blue sky, and find happiness. (But I think it cost them thier life...)
My mom, on Facebook after I shared this, probably came up with the deepest thing I've ever heard about this video:
"It reminds me of your wonders in life's unknown, but the faith you have that once you find that special person, everything becomes possible and beautiful."
I love this song, because it tells a beautiful story. At times, I come close to tearing up. At first I thought it was pathetic of me to do so, but now, I just let my emotions play out, because I think any great story will bring some kind of emotion out of anyone who hears or reads it.
thank you so much for adding subs to this because when I watch it with just japanese I don't know what they are saying and the song wasn't as meaningful. But now I got to understand how beautiful this song is. I reallly like simple stories like these! Now when I listen to just the song I'll understand it. :)

@k12kyle I'd like some help too! All I really understand is that there's an umbrella and then they go to it and the door behind them locks them out and they are happy on top of the umbrella.
@wondermist Unlike some of Hachi's other songs, I really don't think there's much additional meaning to be gleamed beyond what's apparent*. Other than an underlying message about having to take action if you want to make your life better, and... I dunno, pollution, maybe.
* After all, it even SAYS "there's no time to look for reason, nor any desire."
@vgperson it might also be that if you live your life under an umbrella of shelter, your life is going to be like a gray sky, sad, like crying rain, but you can sometimes find happiness ontop of your umbrella, well ^^" that is what i take from it, only the composer knows for sure!
I like what vgperson said. though it doesn't seem like much additional meaning,
(like Mrs. Pumpkin or Qualia) Really, It's the two of them, rebelling against what was told to be 'law'. It's like a romantic, non-romantic journey. It's like finding out something that is not suppose to be. They achieved their dream of being able to see the fairytale sky. Which they truly believed that there was one. Finding that they sleep peacefully on top the Umbrella. That probably didn't help. -_-
Not a clue but if you REALLY want it, I'd maybe suggest screen capping and then crop the picture in Paint or PhotoShop?
Onto the video: Gah, I think this has quickly become my favourite Vocaloid song after hearing it a couple of weeks ago~ The new video to it is just gorgeous! <3
There appear to be several of those already, actually. Hachi said he's going to work out a way for people to order online, but in the same message asked people not to resell it on Yahoo. Not sure what that means in terms of the ones already up.

The great umbrella hiding the Earth.
A tower is built in the center, a mass of machinery that props it up.
As a being would suspect, the villages below got no sun, and are tormented by "rain".
But the others do not question.
For it is commonplace.
It means nothing.
It is basically "law".
Struggling together through the recurring rain, the two reached the tower.
The great two doors would not budge, but the two would never be rejected.
