Deadly Australians: The Red-bellied Black Snake

I've stepped on one of these, bare foot, I shit myself and did the panic dance, the snake was more scared of me though and took off.

Many years ago I came across one of these snakes while riding my horse alongside a gravel road. Top half was glistening black, bottom half brilliant red. It was slithering slowly across road so I got a good estimate of length - 5 to 6 feet.Only thing is I live in W.A. where red bellied black snakes are not found. I could only suggest that it had travelled across to W.A. on an interstate truck up under the chassis or in the container.

they also love farmland. found a 5ft long one crossing the road in our local area a few weeks back
