is it true that haitians killed anybody in the streets during the revolution? they say that charles delouge(spell check)was a leader of it. is it true? I cant spell his last name but its pronounced, dea-longe
As much as i abhore violence including the killing of young children and innocent people im not surprised and frankly they had it coming. When you enslave a group of people and dehumanize them and most of you just codone it and dont speak out against injustice then EXPECT FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. You cant do this to a people and NOT expect them to rise up and take revenge. Thats why i didnt feel bad for the germans who dies in bombings during ww2. when you codone evil this is what happens.
These women have such wonderful manners, are elegant, intelligent, but basically well kept courtesans. It's a shame that it has had to be this way and despite their airs, they are just as used as those in a brothel.
@zac60712 LOL I said the same thing. If Beyonce wasnt around, white men wouldnt've stood a chance in hell. And white women well........ you know where im getting at
The beginning of the film is quite faithful to reality, Haitians really did that to their white masters but not only to their white masters but also to Dominicans and others who weren't black.
its been said that during the battle of Santo Domingo they raped and killed thousands of meer civilans who were on the streets.
@jemmytaveras & Dominicans also massacred Haitians but no one speaks about that right? Also, there are Dominicans that are black, I do not see why that concept is so hard from them to grasp. Slavery was taken place on the other part of the island to.
Well You know what they say "an eye for an Eye a tooth for a tooth", also, the slaves on this side of the island were about to be freed when they invaded Spain was weak enough for us to declare independence but Haitians interfered with our independence process!

I found this on accident looking for an old Irene Cara movie. But I'm glad I found this I remember seeing it a while ago but I didn't see the whole movie. Glad to know that I can watch it now and get a better understanding of it. THANX for uploading.
can someone explain the family tree to me. How is taunte really related to whatsherface-Josie? Was Josie's mom an African slave with a white Slave master daddy. Or was josie's mom a free person of color?
I agree with mariposa24, I been searching for this movie for years, I couldn't think of this movie for the life of me. THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS. COULD you in the future post this movie called The Ritual? it's a black suspense type of movie.
Anne Rice is such an amazing author, for those of you whom don't know, this is based on her novel The Feast of all Saints. I highly suggest you all go out to the library of bookstore near you to purchase it.
why everybody keep using that word? we are not whores but women who tried to better our situation in a time and place where we had no real choices 6to those before i raise my glass and say thank you thank you
I am grateful to you for posting this. I used to continually email Anne Rice's website in hopes of a movie. They did a very poor job. The editing is choppy and none of the actors seemed to appreciate the significance of the film and most did not read the book. It just looks like they put out a product, but since this is my only visual of the book, I ....
you ROCK for putting this up. I saw it a long time ago on cable but never caught it from the beginning. After years of being in the dark I can finally find out how the hell it started. Thanks!!!!
I just got done reading this, so it was a nice surprise to find this here. Also, the fact that Anne Rice approved of this series, says a lot. Anyways, there were only a few differences between the book, & this series. As for the characters, they were fairly close to what I imagined them to look like. The only 1's that didn't, were Philippe, Dolly Rose, & Vince. Vince was kind of annoying looking. As for Philippe, I pictured him w/ gray hair, & I pictured Dolly Rose, with slightly darker skin.
@SoYahYah i beleive its the haitian revolution...black people wanted independence from the domineering whites? its ironic how haitii was first independent black country in western hemisphere yet now they are one of the poorest
Haiti is the poorest because the whites made sure the free blacks of Haiti would not succeed. they were 'blacklisted' by economic embargo, from the world.
never underestimate the whitemans ability to destroy.
@jagib2 >>That is NOT why Haiti is the poorest.. Haiti is the poorest because of corruped government.... Haiti use to be one of the richest countries back in the day. @ilovecronaldo7>>you're right buhh we aint get our independence from Dominican Republic it was from France.. they got they independence from us.. We were all one country..
@lilmamii509 Haiti was the richest colony only during the era of slavery. Slavery in Haiti was unlike slavery in anywhere else. It was so brutal that many blacks died of overwork.
@vtoodler >> you are so right. and that is why there was revolution that over threw that system. the whites were hanging blacks from hooks & burning them alive.
take note lilmamii- the Blacks defeated napoleon's army & took their independance. but the whiteman does not give up- if he could not defeat them one way then he tries another way. namely embargo, spying, espinage & implants in corrupt govt.
Actually the biracial " men of colour" who were the sons of slave owners ( and plantation owners themselves). Sided with their white- french parent, and fought against the black slaves who had rebelled and freed themselves. The people of colour in this period were not on the side of blacks. they wanted a better life for themselves are would try to get it by any means necessary .
@ilovecronaldo7 yes as you say - kinda ironic & the othe french caibbean islands aen't poor at all... i can say so i live in the french caribbean and haitian people come illegally in my island to get a better situation for themselves sad isn't it...and now there's a pandemy of cholera....
@beautyat17"im a woman of color but im not a whore" why did you fee the need to say that? do you think being "of color" is related being a whore in some way?
@beautyat17 ..i dont think they portrait women of color as a whore..actually opposed, they shows white rich men who manipulate situation or take advantage of ..of women who try to survive harsh life...(in this part at least..have to watch rest of the movie)..
oh wow! thank you for uploading. i remember i only saw pieces of the series here and there and never saw it's entirety., i used to be obsessed with anne rice. cheers and hope you download the rest!
i cant believe someone finally started downloading this movie. this was a very good period drama. very different of the usual Anne Rice novels. thanks so much 4 downloading. hope 2 see the rest of the series soon.
