Maxpassion17. I was 38 when mine was done and I had the labrum scoped and from not having It addressed for 10 years I developed a gleniod cyst in my shoulders socket. The cyst required 3-4 incision on the front side of my shoulder. They took the cyst out and replaced it with a bone graft. The surgery went well and lasted 2 hours. The hard part is rehab. Now being I was older and the cyst my recovery seemed longer about 4-5 months. I'm sure yours will be faster as being an athlete and being yo
I had this and a capsular repair. 4 weeks after operation I was jumped on by someone out at a club and i lifted them up with both hands (while sling was loosely on) and threw them off. I was in no pain because i was drinking. However in the morning occassionally felt sharp pain, muscle twitches and aching and was sure that I had torn a ligament or something. My surgeon said it was highly unlikely unless it was in external rotation. Does anyone know how strong sutures are?
I tore my right labrium in nov. of '08, had to have a slap repair w/ 4 anchors 5 months later. That surgery only lasted a yr and a half befor I had to have another one. It is now about 14 months later and I already need another one!! After the second surgery the doc said the only thing left that he could do was to sever my bicept muscle! Getting other oppinions
This surgery is no FUN! Had it twice on the same shoulder (arthroscopic Bankart) I wish I never had it! I'm still in Pain over a year and a half after the second surgery!!
I tore my left shoulder labrum 2 years ago. Doc said rest and workout should be ok. One year later I swung the bat and was in immense pain. I tore it swinging btw. I still haven't gone but I want to get it done cause my ball playing days aren't over yet.
I had two shoulder surgeries in 2001 and 2002 for labrum tears. 10 years later and still having trouble. They did use anchors to re attach. Doctors appointment coming soon and hope I don't need a third.
I was 20 too the first time. I'm due for my 2nd labral surgery on my shoulder next week. The surg. that did my first surgery didn't even use anchors. This time another surg. will be using anchors. I think bench pressing dumbells did it for me. I always stretched and did cardio before lifting too. What's funny is I pitched in HS and a year of college and never had trouble with my throwing shoulder. At least I'll be on Percocets Monday and be out of this f*cking pain! Good luck.
@mxpassion17 Its been almost 8 months and its much better. My injured shoulder isn't even my throwing shoulder (never had problems with my throwing shoulder while pitching in HS or college.) so I can't imagine what you're going through! MAKE SURE you go to physical therapy and CONTINUE to do the exercises and stretches after PT is over. I bought a TENS unit/muscle stimulator and I still use it everyday. TENS for pain and stim for working muscles. It was $250. Good luck bro!
@mxpassion17 They said I had a torn biceps tendon and an inflamed rotator cuff along with the tear. So they fixed all of that. I've had the flu for a month and haven't done shit and I can tell. The key is don't let it get stiff. You just have to do those exercises and light dumbells and stretching after PT is over. MOST IMPORTANT THING. If you have any more questions, let me know. Too bad you're not getting a Tommy John surgery. I heard those can add like 5-7 MPH on your fastball. lol
When I was 20 I tore my labrum oversea's, had it repaired and 8 months later was fast roping onto the roof of a house when we took fire so the guy below me stopped and when he did I had to put all my weight to stop on my wrists and my shoulder tore outta the socket and I landed flat on my back of the roof from 20ft. Fun day, hope your shits good. I'm set to have a shoulder replacement this summer barely being 21.
@looknohands855 i am wondering if you have had the shoulder replacement and if it went well, who did it. my labrum has been torn from 2 to 5 oclock for 20 years and my body has reaborbed most of what was torn off (as my surgeon only repaired my shoulder cuff tear). i will probably need a replacement too.
6 months ago I fell hard on my elbow and rammed up into my shoulder and the doc says it's a labrum tear. I would like to know how bad though. I put all my weight on it and I was taken to the hospital.
i had surgery on my left shoulder in Aug 2009, still dont have my full rotation (stiff). it was both physically and mentally tough, especially the first couple of weeks after surgery. my advice, you got to be prepared, have someone around to help you out, keep your mind off the shoulder and just take it easy :)
I agree, I just had surgery on my left shoulder on Dec 13th and it was horrible for the first couple weeks and I still am in a decent amount of pain. My shoulder was pretty torn up though so that might be the reason it still hurts a bunch.
I was diagnosed with a labrum tear from 1:00 to 5:00. Unless I'm mistaken about the description, that sounds like I've torn it 1/3 of the way around. But, my surgeon said the tear isn't causing the pain, it's that my shoulder is frozen. Has anyone here had a tear of that size surgically repaired?
@jdbly68 Not sure on the exact size of my tears, but they were pretty big, left shoulder took 3 small anchors to fix, and my right shoulder took 5 large anchors to repair. As for your "frozen" shoulder, i just had surgery #5 on my Left 6 days ago cuz it would "lock/freeze" on me. Turned out with the original Labrum tear, it also stretched one of the ligaments to the point it lost its elasticity, so the flopping of that ligament was getting caught up in the shoulder and causing it to lock.
i had this surgery, had a full range of motion after just 6 weeks. recovered extremely quickly. i even surprised my doctor with my progress. only had to go to 2 physical therapy sessions and i got back to working out just 2 months after
i torn my labrum in my right shoulder. had surgery a month ago, and the put in 7 anchors. i'm just getting out of the sling now, and i feel like i have a pretty decent range of motion, especially after a 2/3 tear.
This actually isnt that bad of a tear my labrum was completely torn thanks to me continuing my football season while it was partially torn. In this vid they only used 3 anchors. I have 12 in my shoulder lol took an entire year to recover. The pain was unbearable
i would say get it done kuz i had mine done on june 3rd of 2009. I still have a little pain but im still not even a year from having it done but by I say October i was already back in the gym working out and it is well worth it if you do alot of stuff like sports like me.
Im debating over whether i should go ahead with this surgery. Not sure about the long recovery time, is it better to have the surgery or take painkillers for the pain?! Well in the long run it would be better to have the surgery but im just unsure..
I had this done about 2 years ago on my right shoulder. It sucked so much. It still bothers me all the time and I dont have full range of motion. Was out skiing about 8 months after the right side and was on a back bowl and fell and tore the left in 2 places. Not doin surgery again. For you guys in recovery keep up the good work and do everything they tell you in physical therapy. It helps so much
I had seven anchors put in mine. I had global instability. I lost about 30% of my labral alone. They had to stich back my bicep muscle in the process also.
