  • i luv landcasters

  • How did the ribs turn out Blink?

  • The Jucy's Smokehouse ribs were VERY disappointing:( I'll show them in a future video.

  • Good ribs are bloody hard to find. Our BBQ shack here in town makes some fine brisket and excellent pulled pork, but the ribs are never greater than just "satisfactory." They are hard to perfect that is for sure. Sticky Fingers makes a respectable effort I think.

If they don't just fall off the bone they ain't there in my opinion.

  • If you have a Texas Roadhouse in your area you should give it a try. Their ribs are very good. Apparently ribs *are* hard to do right. I'm almost always disappointed when I try them at a new place. In retrospect I *think* the problem with Jucy's Smokehouse ribs was that I think they were beef ribs and not pork ribs. I should have read the ad more carefully. I don't know if it said whether they were beef or pork. Beef ribs just ain't the same!

  • The ribs have to be pork. Oh yea, now that goes without saying!

  • I know!!! When I see ribs on a menu I just take it for granted that they're pork. I won't be making that mistake again. Pork rib bones are basically round or round-ish. The ones at Jucy's were flatt-ish.

  • Funny enough, I'm in Elizabeth, NJ.

I think you need to call a nutritionist!! ;)

My dad lives in the mountains of North Carolina and the water there is much better than the lovely Jersey water I live on most of the year. He's in Black Mountain.

I have no opinion on ribs since I don't like 'em. Please do not unsubscribe.

  • Hehehe, I assure you I eat *somewhat* healthier than this most of the time. Actually for a few months in the mid to late summer I eat very healthy while the garden stuff is in. Then a few notches down from that the rest of the year with the exception of vacations where I engage in nutritional debouchery:)

I'm south of Asheville about 35 miles. So I'm pretty close to your dad. Yep, you can't beat the water in this area. It's a shame you don't like ribs. Fat Buddy's is in Asheville.

  • Asheville is a fun town just to walk around and look at stuff. It's less than half an hour down the mountain from my dad's place.

  • Healthy eating helps overcome the depression of losing all your money in the casino. NOW I have the munchies...THANKS! LOL Love that map!

  • At least your view had greenery, and not just a parking lot or the side of another building. :-)

  • Yep, I should count my blessings. I've certainly had MUCH worse views before.

  • Wow - with all those snakcs, good thing you have that walking path to walk it off. I used to print out my maps - then I brought a GPS - never printed out a mad since. I highly recommend them. I think you may not be printing as much in the future with your new GPS around.

  • If I only have a few places to go to then the GPS by itself works out great. But with a dozen or more places programmed in I need a map so I can figure out which order to hit the places in. Unless the GPS has an option I don't know about there's no way for the GPS to figure out the shortest route which will hit all the points of interest I have programmed into it. All in all the GPS worked out fantastically though.

  • I had the best of intentions on that walking path but wound up only walking it one time. I've been doing some walking here at home here lately though.

  • Mmm Cheetos. My favorite. I am addicted to them. I have a bag of them right now by my side. I like to shop once in a while at a thrift store. In fact they just opened a big new one near me that I want to check out. My husband and I went to 2 thrift stores yesterday before I found out the new one was open. We didn't find anything that time but maybe at the new one.

  • At most Goodwill stores all the clothes are about $2.50 and up, which of course is worth it if you find the right thing. We happened to run across some sort of church run thrift where all the clothes were $1 so that's where I got most of my buys.

  • Good job you remembered your clamp collection for all those goodies. Shame you didn't pack the catellite dish for a better wi-fi connection though!

  • Darn it, I didn't think about that. My catellite dish certainly would have come in handy!

I always travel with a long ethernet cable. An ethernet cable coupler and plenty of clamps!

  • Isnt Olean the same as Olestra? That stuff will give you anal leakage!!!!

I havent seen Bunny Bread in years!

Sounds like you got the thrift stores and the bargain food staked out, have fun and you can burn that extra weight off in the garden when you get home:-)

  • Yep, Olean and Olestra are the same thing. I've never had any problem with the chips. Probably because I only eat 2 or 3 handfuls at a time at the most. It might be a different story if I ate a whole bag at once.

Bunny Bread is one of the more common breads in the stores around here. When it comes to bread I really don't have a favorite. I just pick whichever one *seems* to be the freshest. Sometimes I pick well and sometimes I don't

I've been hard at work in the garden since I got back:)

  • $12 a night?!?! my mouth started watering when i saw all those snacks! why bother printing if you got a gps? smokey bones! i know someone who worked there.

  • Yep, the internet access was $12 a night, (or something close to that). The room itself was actually *comped* because my mother has a Harrah's players card and she plays (I.E. loses) enough at the casino to where they sometimes give her free rooms. I'll never get out of the habit of wanting to see where I'm going on a map even if I've got a GPS. For one thing the GPS doesn't suggest a route between multiple points of interest. unless I've got a map with the points of interest marked, Cont.

  • on it I don't know which one to program into my GPS as the next spot on the route.

  • oh i thought you meant the room was 12/night

  • I thought he meant $12.00 a night for the hotel room too. :O)

  • Looks like you like to vacation like I do. How can you go wrong with good food and lots of thrift store. I love it!

  • I figure I save enough on the thrifty buys I make at the thrift stores to somewhat make up for the gas expense and what little gambling I do at the casino. In this instance the rooms were free, the internet cost $36, my half the gas was $45, and I lost $59 at the casino. Not bad for a 3 day trip actually.

  • You did really good. I bet it was a fun trip. I hope you show us your thrift store finds. I call it junking and I have always enjoyed going to the junk stores. It is like a treasure hunt to me. Ya never know what you might find. :)

  • I bought a few books to resell on Ebay and a few clothes. Nothing really too interesting. I might try to film a little bit of the stuff. I figure people would be bored at me showing clothes though.

  • If you ever get to Memphis - check out Corky's BBQ. Yummy. Might be about the only thing I miss about that city - oh wait - the magnolia trees - I do miss them. It's pretty there -of course out here in the west our scenic beauty is so often devoid of green that the color looks lovely to me. Hope you're having fun - that's more junk food than we'd buy in a year here, although I think my son brings home some and hides it...

  • I'll be sure and check out Corky's if I'm ever in Memphis again. I've actually been there a couple of times on a side trip when I went to the casinos in Tunica. I did the Graceland tour and went to some Greyhound races across the river. Yikes, the traffic was hideous when I was there.

I had a good time on this trip. It was fun fooling around with the GPS. I've actually eliminated a LOT of junk food from my diet lately (except for the peanut butter which to me is an essential food group:)

  • Yeah, I use the GPS on my phone a lot. It also notes areas of heavy traffic and allows me to either plan to relax or take another route. Oh, and Peanut Butter is a good source of protein and a semi healthy fat; its the moderation part I have trouble with - what do you mean a tablespoon is a serving? A good PB&J sammich has at least 3 TBLS, right?

  • I'm afraid to cound how many tablespoons of PB I use on a sandwich. I load it up pretty good!!!

  • I highly recommend the M&M's with the peanut butter dip. Sometimes a spoonful of peanut butter with M&M sprinkles hits the spot.

  • Sounds yummy! I'll have to give that a try. Yet another tasty treat to tempt me, LOL.

  • robertpina99, Had to write that.... hmm I wonder if someone might deliver M&Ms... chocolate morsels will do... gotta go :O)

  • I don't think you had enough snack food!

There's a hotel near my work and I've tried a few times driving around trying to conntect to their interent during lunch but can't get it!

  • Vacation snack food rulz!!! I've seriously been watching my diet lately but hey when vacation time comes it's open season on the mass consumption of snacks. It'll take me a couple of weeks to lose the 3 pounds I gained.

It's pretty frustrating trying to sponge off of other people's wireless. On one trip to Biloxi I took my laptop along in the van and we visited about 7 casinos. I was able to get useable wireless in only one parking lot. A couple weren't there and a few were encrypted.

  • hey, if ya search wifi range extender there's a little tutorial on a site called instructables

it's a home made thingy that involves a metal strainer

it says it works and it's right up your alley

    anyway...

    yummy with the snackage!

of course the "light" chips balance out all the chocolate ;)

seriously, you gave me the munchies hardcore

nice idea with having the two maps

and there's no wrong way to fold up that one since you did the initial folds hehe

  • and i thinks you should start a petition for the gps companies to add a thrift store feature

  • They DEFINATELY should do that! It was a pain in the butt programming in all the individual addresses. Another thing which oddly enough isn't in the "points of interest" on this GPS is post offices. It has tons of restaurants though.

  • I'll have to check out the "indestructables" thing before my next trip! Hotel wireless *or* ethernet either one is usually pretty sucky. As far as YouTube from a hotel room goes I always have to let a video sit a while before I can watch it.

I had that map folded up a dozen different ways before the trip was over with, LOL.

  • I thought ether was a controlled substance.

...OH! Wait, you meant... okay, never mind.

    *cough*

This video gave me the munchies.

And can the GPS only be powered by USB or would attempting to give it doses of ether be too much of a gamble?

  • Yikes there's no telling where I'd wind up if my GPS was under the influence of ether, LOL. This was my first experience with a GPS and it ROCKED! It took a lot of stress out of my navigational duties. I still plot stuff out on a map ahead of time like always because one thing the GPS doesn't do is allow me to program in lots of stuff and then autoroute me along the shortest route. I still have to choose the order I want to visit things in but overall it worked great!

  • That view is ok... :) But the video keeps stopping.. have had a lot of that lately... :P

  • Yep, I have the choppy YouTube connection myself from time to time. It's a hit and miss thing sometimes. The view wasn't bad really.

  • It's still a nice view!

  • I've stayed in lots of motels where my view was mainly the HVAC system on an adjoining rooftop so I've certainly had much worse:) A river view would have been nice although to tell the truth the hotel is situated a couple hundred yards off of the river so I would have only had a distant view, and then only from an upper floor I'd guess.

  • I have to say... those are awesome vacation snacks.

I hope you film the thrift stores!

Have a wonderful time Blinkie :)

  • Thanks Diana! Unfortunately I neglected to film inside any of the thrift stores. I filmed a bit on the outside of them and filmed a couple of thrift store buys once back at the van. I did film inside the restaurants however.
