  • You've inspired me! I'm going to try this for my Goldfish ^~^ Btw I've noticed in your videos that in some videos you have substrate and in others you don't, what is your opinion on bare bottomed tanks? Are they better? Thank you!

  • @midnightmoon710 I was originally bare bottom (before I started making videos), then I decided to try some substrate, but I went back to bare bottom a couple months later. I personally much prefer bare bottom. I don't think I will ever have substrate again. It is just so much easier to clean and you don't have to worry about what's hiding in the gravel lol. It's really all personal preference though. As long as you only keep a thin layer and vacuum it regularly gravel is fine.

  • Iv got to try making gel food using agar agar. Iv tried making gel food with gelatin but I did it wrong. It didn't set, it was too liquidy.

  • Your fish eat better than I do! ;-)

  • @MexiMike83 lol, they eat better than I do too! Spoiled little pigs ;)

  • Great guide and cute fish :)

    Thx!

  • @smukkegreen thanks! :)

  • 5:26 Nice cake. =p

  • @acidglow haha, yeah it's really a hit at kids birthday parties! ;)

  • Aren't pellets normally fine aslong as you soak them in tank water for a long enough time to make them more liquidy instead of being a pellet full of air?

  • @acidglow You only want to soak pellets for 2-3 minutes at the most, but yes, sinking pellets are fine. Really variety is the key to a healthy goldfish diet. Pellets, veggies, and gel food make a well rounded diet. However, some goldies are very sensitive to commercial foods and cannot eat pellets without swim bladder problems (even with soaking), gel food is a great alternative for these sensitive fish : )

  • Thanks for the informative video! I was looking to see how to use agar agar but it seems most other people use gelatin.

  • @runswithbananas glad it helped : ) Yeah, gelatin is the standard base, it's what I always used to use, but having a goldie with some swim bladder I have been researching all potential dietary supports and agar agar seemed to be one that a lot of people have had success with. And it just seems more natural for them to eat something plant based than gelatin! ; )

  • @tithra33 While my fish don't have any dietary issues, gelatin is an indigestible protein, and so you'd think that it would cause as many problems as flake food. Anyways, what purpose does the acidophilus serve? I know it is used in probiotics, but I was wondering how it benefits fish. Same question for the koi clay (calcium bentonite I'm guessing).

  • @runswithbananas The acidophilus is supposed to help with digestion, just as it would in humans. Probiotic food is often used with goldies following a course of antibiotic medication, and the thought it that regular probiotics should also help. However, I have wondered how much good it does after being frozen, but I add it anyway because it certainly can't hurt. The koi clay is another one that many people have had success with for goldfish that have swim bladder problems. cont.

  • @runswithbananas I know many people who use the koi clay in both their aquarium water and food and swear by it for SBD. The actual logistics of why koi clay (calcium bentonite) would work for swim bladder issues is a bit beyond my understanding : ) but again, I figure it can't hurt to try.

  • @tithra33 I've definitely heard that about the aquarium water too. I'm planning on upgrading my tank, and I was going to use it in my substrate. Funny thing, they're advertising calcium bentonite as an edible clay for people use for promoting digestive health. The thought is that humans are used to having sediment in their water supply, but with all the modernization there is less in the water. Maybe I will try it in my next gel food, too. :)

  • my fish had a swim bladder disease....i stoppd feedin thm flakes..onli peas n drowning pellets cured it completeli.....no floatin food for gold fishes.....n less in protein....as too much protein causes constipation even to humans......ultimatli the water should be clean.....n top quality,,,,the quality of ur water= quality if ur fishes..right tithra :)

  • I can't get over how informative and well done your videos are. Well done!!! More videos please! :)

  • @fishforme2 thanks so much! I am hoping to get a couple more up this weekend : )

  • Nice and I could tell. K I got a question then about my gold fish. They seem to be very happy at the moment but never really active unless "eating" time. Like they will move slowly but when theirs no food but all three will usually stay in the corner. Please respond:) thanks

  • @MrFishlover97 I will PM you : )

  • Nice CID but did think of ALL of that or did you get that off of google/Internet

  • @MrFishlover97 Do you mean the recipe? If so, the recipe was based on a recipe that a friend online shared with me that I modified (quite a bit) for my own purposes. : ) I have done a good amount of research about goldfish care/health etc. online : )

  • Nice videos!!

I think i am going to make this for my small fantail goldfish!

    Thanks a lot !!!!

  • @MegaJAZZROCKS Glad you liked it : ) Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions : )

  • @tithra33 Hi, i wanted to know some signs of swim bladder i heard that if your goldfish keeps floating up it means it has it is it true. Because "sometimes" my fish tries to lick the gravel but has trouble staying down there it goes back up to the surface but sometimes its fine. Does it have swim bladder

  • @MegaJAZZROCKS It sounds like it might have some mild swim bladder problems. Goldfish with swim bladder problems may do things like "headstand" (where their head is down but their bottom floats up), they may also float at the top belly up in more severe cases. It is not uncommon for goldfish to occasionally experience swim bladder issues.

  • @tithra33 yes yes that i s what it does!! do u know cure for that type of swim bladder disease or is it same for all of them
