Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong
Yo I just got an APC40 2 weeks ago, since then Ive been practicing and I noticed that everytime I choose a song and trigger another one the song I choose has to adjust to the master tempo and will not play to its original speed, so I end up constantly changing the master tempo, it aggrevating because I'll have two songs that are supposed to be about the same speed but according to abelton I need to put one song at 90 and the other one at 190! Is there any way to fix this problem?
i am wantin to get the APC..in a delimma maybe u can answer..I am ordering the MPD32..then i want to launch clips with the apc..do u think i should get both..or one or the other..?
@Brizzne I have both and barely use my mpd32 since getting this. If you plan on making beats - the velocity sensitive pads are great and using it as your "instrument" works well. I remap all the mpd32 controls to handle certain effects and trigger "one shots" with the pads. If I had to choose - APC40 all the way.
well if you know ableton its just a loop, its no cutting you just drag the cursor where you want it and it will loop for as long as you want it with perfect timing, if you set it right... so your not cutting anything really. you can play the loop or the whole some, so some parts of my mix are loops some are songs mixed in... all controlled via the MPC
before you get the apc, you should learn ableton live first, they have a tutorial that comes with the software, then you have other ones all over the web and youtube, once you get that down, you can use midi controllers
My normal setup is to run guitar, bass, and keys through a digitech JamMan looper and run beats separately on an Boss SP 505. I brought home an apc 40 last night, and am now retiring most of my setup. I'm still keeping the guitar in the mix bc I think its pretty dope for show to keep some real instruments in with the digital. There is a hell of a learning curve for this controller, especially having no previous experience with Ableton. BUT if you stare at it long enough, it starts to make sense
Lets make something clear, If you ask me my opinion im going to answer it, for the smart ass dude, I dont use the crossfader cause its flimsy, I got a mixer thats made for scratching that handles that job for me, I didnt buy the APC to scratch on it. if you ask me something you better be prepared for my answer or else off my page and go get your own APC, damn !
you can apply scratches and cuts to any genre of music, its just expression... Im using the unit in conjunction with my Turntables as a remix application this vid is just a simplified version of what i have in mind.
nope, even if you could i wouldnt, no curve adj and a piece of shit crossfader, I used the APC in conjunction with what I already got 2 turntables and a mixer
yeah maybe for mixing but for production and clean tight beats theirs few things close to it. don't get me wrong I still push on my straight 8's but if you can save some time on set up why not ? I think a healthy mix of physical mxing and software is always in order
yes you can assign kills to each channel, I use kills a lot as well. I have assigned the "record arm" buttons to work as kill switches, they are located directly above each channel volume slider, so it makes it very easy to hit 2 kills at once for a switch-up. This thing is an amazing piece of equipment!
KEEP THE BEATS GOIN

Good Job man....
But mixing Hip Hop is about scratches and lots of cutz.
Mixing in Ableton is to clean. Same Speed absolutely synced....

ImpressionableTeen 2 years ago

The APC 40 is a f**kin' weapon. I'm going to get one. I still use 3 1210s. Can you assign kills on it? I use bass kills a lot for mixing.
