  • I just learned that Jo studied with DameSchwartzkopf early in her career....I always knew there was something familiar about her voice

  • Heaven sends such things as this. This proves Steven Hawkins is flawed.

  • @fourltrfred you know how i know God exists? By things we can't explain, things we can't rationalize inside our head. Music like this is very hard to explain why it's beautiful...it just is...and that's how i know He exists. Most of you might not agree...

  • This song is nice i know it from gantz

  • Just lovely. bravo~~~~~

  • soo pure i love her

  • what a voice

  • Wow! without words...

  • I want that woman.

    Bring her to me.

    Now.

  • @woodyt56 I've met her. She's far too good for anyone here. :)

  • This song has a powerful meaning. I wish people would consider the meaning rather than forcing personal opinions on technique or pronunciation upon others. It brings down the joy this song could give.

  • gorgeous. i sang this at my church. :)

  • Dal vivo la voce più piccola del mondo...

  • areumdupda, heart to heart

  • 그녀의 음성은 아름답다

  • Su Mi is amazing!

  • Brilliant as always!

  • nice voice, just the right vibrato in her voice

  • stunning! this is so beautiful in her voice

  • @seetsebea1

    Actually,

Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem

Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem sempiternam

    translates as

Kind Lord Jesus, grant them rest

Kind Lord Jesus, grant them everlasting rest

  • Crystalline voice and the equilibrium of a pensive angel. Perfect for this piece.

  • Her voice is magical. I envy her, though I know it's wrong to. She has true talent.

  • Sumi Jo is perfect, maybe too perfect. Everything cristalclear, but a lack of colour and warmth. Bonney and Netrebko (above all), make more believe the words: pie jesu - pity if jesus.

  • LOL, it appears as if you have another version of Pie Jesu in mind ... Netrebko never sung this version. Just compare directly, the link to the Pie Jesu sung by Netrebko is on the right.

And if you really think Sumi Jo lacks warmth, then you have no clue of human beings !!

  • hi jhsta. sure it`s not the same pie jesu. Thanks for your answer, guess my comment was sort of confusing. but still. never mind, I do like Sumi Jo, that`s out of question, but if I compare this f.e. with her interpretation of Cacchini`s Ave Maria, which is just incredible, and there she sounds really full of colour and warmth, I still think this here is beautiful, but somewhat cool. But, as I said, nothing against her, she is certainkly one of the tops!!! Kind regards.

  • Absolutely mesmerizing voice. :)

  • voce di grande nitidzza, cosi bella e dolce! uno dei miei soprano favoriti!

  • Ugh. I hate it when distracting and petty arguments on videos sully my enjoyment of beautiful music.

  • Well, youo don't need to read, do you ?

  • @ MyStyleIsBlack

you moron, if you already 'reply' only one hour after somebody made a comment, then you'll hardly ever see other replies, at least not on a video that has less than 10,000 viewers over all.

But you answer made me laugh, as it demonstrate a great amount of stupidity that I can only laugh about. As you see now, I very well got an answer from the one my comment was meant for, you silly something. Go home exercise thinking first, before you open your filthy mouth.

  • HAHAHAHAHA The posts make me laugh! People's arguments on youtube are so funny!

  • No it's not funny, to be honest, I would love to beat up all those who dare criticize famous artists without having a tiny bit of a clue what they are talking about.

Or arguments are nothing but vulgar or rude speech ... such people should be banned from youtube.

I am afraid, I cannot find anything funny about such "comments".

  • wow. its a shame that almost all the comments here are just arguing.

  • I agree and for my part I regret allowing someone to drag me into such childishness. Music is a personal expression of the artist and a personal experience of the listener. What I find exalting another may not but we need to find the maturity to express our views in non-confrontational ways.

  • Is there any effects no her voice in the recording, it sounds like an echo. Or something that brightens up the voice. Anyways, Her voice is angelic!

  • I suggested Popp to you because I felt she was superior . I did not presume knowledge or ignorance on your part.

How do you presume to know how well or ill-informed I am? Do you know me personally? Perhaps we should all submit our CVs to you so you can judge our qualifications.

I don't need you to respect my opinion. I don't give a damn whether you do or not. But there are more ADULT ways of disagreeing than calling me a petulant snot (anonymously). That is ignorant.

  • A beautiful voice, but not in control of the dynamics. Pronunciation of the Latin is inconsistent; needs work.

  • You have no idea what so ever of what you speak. She is the finest voice of all time.

  • Take a listen to Lucia Popp sing this piece (or any other). Then you'll know what a soprano is supposed to sound like: clean, pure, effortless, in control of everything.

  • I am well versed regarding Popp's work. While you're correct to admire her talents, you're a petulant snot for denigrating Jo for her Latin. The Asian tongue has great trouble with Latinized articulation as ours does with Asian articulation. Unable to apparently admire talent for its own sake, you felt the need to criticize her for doing something you undoubtedly could never do. Those who can, do. Those who can't, sit on the sidelines and put down those who do. Guess which YOU are.

  • I did not like her performance and gave my reasons why. I am entitled to express my opinions on her performance no matter what you believe my qualifications to be. Just as you are entitled to disagree with my opinion. However, I do not resort to personal attacks and namecalling against those I disagree with. So easy when you're anonymous.

Further, if her Asian tongue gives her trouble with Latin, which you seem to acknowledge, perhaps she should not have attempted to record this piece.

  • "Then you'll know what a soprano is supposed to sound like" isn't something you consider a personal attack when it's clearly meant to suggest those of us who appreciate Jo's extraordinary talents shouldn't and are ignorant to do so. lie to yourself if you must but your words are clearly there and I merely called you what you are, based on what you said. Yes, all are entitled to express opinion, but you have no right to expect it to be respected when it is ill informed and ignorant.

  • Ah yes, the immature protestations of a child caught in conflict and a lie. You made an insulting comment and when forced to deal with it you back peddle. You ARE a petulant snot and what's more, not a particularly honest one. I don't take offence at your opinion. Just they underhanded manner you express it. And by the way, regarding your comment that perhaps an Asian tongue shouldn't have attempted this piece; your racism in showing.

    You're dismissed as irrelevant.

  • You seem to be spending an awful lot of time and energy on someone you dismiss as irrelevant.

  • Obsessive little gnat aren't you! Obsessive to the point of having to send personal hate mail to me as well as your public utterances of ignorance. Unlike yourself, others have real lives and therefore unable to while away the hours bartering insults as you apparently do. It's ok. Interesting that my comments have affected you so. I'd suggest therapy but I suspect you've been through that already.

  • Perhaps I should confine my commentary to gushing, hyperbolic praise like, "She is the finest voice of all time."

  • She is the finest voice of all time in my opinion. Apparently your self advertised high minded maturity isn't as high (or as minded) as you believe since you feel your opinion is more valid than another persons. Child...you truly ARE an idiot.

  • This is fun! Now you're just making stuff up. Your entire diatribe against me seems to be based on the fact that you don't agree with my opinion of her performance. And now you've gone right off the deep end to plumb the depths of your vocabulary by calling me an idiot.

BTW, I'd like to know what qualifies you to opine that she is the finest voice of ALL TIME. Are you an immortal? A time traveller?

  • Gorgeous :D

  • her voice is very beautiful amongst Asian opera singers
