  • nice

but can't we have a look at your aircraft ?…

  • Hi larry i watch alot of you videos and im thinking about buying an ultralight and upgrading it like you have but before i do im wondering about how much did it cost you. i am wanting to try to make a homemade jet turbine but before i do you should make one and put it on your ultralight. THANKS

  • Oh man, thats absolutely awesome! How much horsepower it have compares with automobile engine? Have it enough power for ultralight aircraft, similar to Piper Cub? (900lb MTOW) You have truth, that turbine sound is better, that any music, especially starting and shutdown. Have a fun with your flying machine. Tailwinds!

  • @Jelen226 Hi Frank, it's 86hp but burns 8gph+.

  • @LarryCanFly thanks for response, Larry, it is pretty enough power for my plane, now I have 80HP, but that consuption is not very attractive, but if it burns Jet A1, it will be good, because A1 costs 2/3 of automobile fuel.Once again thank you for the information. Have a nice flight and happy New Year! New Year will be here in 3 hours on my position :)

  • Comment removed

  • Did you build it yourself or is it a "brand-aircraft"?

  • That turbine is THE best music ever!

  • Hey Larry if you teach me how to fly that, I will come out and smooth you out a run way for ya. You da man.

  • Annoying notes. take them away. nice flight though

  • @wackerxxx press the annotations button yourself

  • 5.9 gal an hour. too high..?. 1200 degrees exhaust too high..?

Dude your in an ultra light JET.... "Way COOL" over rides the fuel consumption and exhaust temp... 10x over

    Nice video..

  • Great video. Great flying. Thumbs up

  • dont add music

  • That was so cool! It sounds just like the large turbo prop aircraft I sometimes fly in.

  • You, sir, are a genius. With the utmost respect!

  • Love it.

    Many thanks for sharing this.

  • 8 DISLIKES ??? OH YA ; THE GOLFERS !

  • just great !

  • JE SUS CHRIST!!! You take off like a rocket!!!

  • That's mighty impressive.

  • vaya si le salen mierda a la pantaya joder quiero un video limpio y no con tantas noticias de mierda me cago en la puta

  • watching your videos keep making me want to build my own ultralight btw about how much runway do you need to get that bird airborne

  • Very nice flight, thanks for uploading. Greetings from sunny Jamaica.

  • Great stuff Larry !

People like you are a credit to our Country !

  • if i would ever want to make 1, i won't be able to fly it, i live too close to EHAM - Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, your not allowed to fly above 1000 feet around here AND NEED a registered plane with transmitter, that sux...

  • Beautiful work. Well done.

  • Larry, you are such a star - what would we do without 'pioneers' like you?? I can't do this stuff any more - it's great that someone does and above all shows us all what he (or she) does. Truck on my friend and stay safe! Jus t one thing - how about trying a scram jet next?

  • @MrWiseowl1 Wow, the neighbors would love scram jets! Tip velocity is 385mph. Is that enough?

  • That rocked larry awsome,I would love to learn to fly ultralite aircraft or hang glide,i dont care as long as im in the air, sweet video.thanks.

  • Arigatou!

    hahaha

  • Nice video. The captions are nicely done too.

  • awesome

  • cool video where is the location? it looks like soutgern oregon???

  • Loved this. My brother is in school right now for jet engine repair. He's gonna love this when i show it to him.

  • Thanks for the ace demo.

  • now this is cool!

i dont care what anyone else says!

    thanks for posting this vid

  • Cool

  • Is an ultralight helicopter? Congratulations! Maybe attach at final a photo with this wonderful aerial ”boat!” :-)

  • @skycor49 , no not a helicopter, it's a "plank"... photo here: pfranc.com/Pepper/FamilyPhotos/MyTurbin&Pepper.jpg

  • @LarryCanFly Link doesn't work. I get your homemade "404 Error" page instead.

  • @LarryCanFly broken URL for the photo.

  • We need people like you to advance aviation! i enjoyed the video and the notecations were great :)

  • Holy crap What a Takeoff!!!

  • Awesome sounding bird. I love the way turbo props sound.

  • Thank you for keeping the sound of the turbine instead of ruining such a great vid with music!!! AWESOME!!!!

  • Yes, I actually designed it and my brother and I manufacture the Hall Airspeed Indicator. The first ones were sold in 1976. I have lost track of how many we have made. They are still in production and selling okay. They can be found on the Hall Wind Meter web site. We produced a few other products over the years, but the Hall Airspeed Indicator has always been our main product. I appreciate your enthusiastic remarks. Larry Hall

  • @quadruplane I just LOVE entrepreneurial SUCCESSES stories! Thanks Larry! -larry,

  • Larry, thanks very much for the views and comments on the Hall airspeed indicator ! - great video. (Hall Bros.)

  • @quadruplane An honor to hear from you sir! The infamous Hall's ASI is a classic engineering work of art. It's a low cost light weight functional and accurate indispensable flight instrument. I'd love to know it's history, when was the first one produced and sold? How many have been made? Still in production? Still selling well? What other products did you produce? ... too many questions?

  • If I could, I'd be doing this every possible day.

  • Nice Job Larry, I'm so jealous

  • 6 people understand bupkiss.. This is too cool! Funny to hear the engine make a ruckus, but then it's the actual prop that is the noisiest..

Oh, on a side note: there's no such thing as "landing" there's only "stalling at 1inch above ground...."

  • Sounds like my electric chain saw, long time till takeoff, thought it was a dunebuggy ride. Also, lose the bong up front, cops are always looking for pot pilots...

  • Great video Larry, now one of my top 10 to watch over and over! Some good flying skills here, thanks for sharing!

  • A great video!

  • Neat Video Larry nice to see it fly and glad you didn't coverup your engine sound with music kinda ruins alotta vids because while its pretty you dont get that sensation or the engine roar and feel the plane really flying , any way glad to see and hear it fly :)

    Steve from OKC

  • How much $ in this setup?

  • @32cricker It's Priceless!

  • hi larry ,,,, this was awesome , im retired ,but everyone says i think like a youngen , this is my take on aircraft engines ,,,, they will all be (some day) turbine driven ,, turbines have less parts and are suited well for high rev applications ,,, worked for 15yrs with turbines ,,, very simple machines ,, cost is high because of the close tolerances,, but , if every motor was turbine it would bring cost down ,,,,, jet or prop , the turbine has the sweeeetest sound ever ,,

  • That's one of the coolest ASI's I've ever seen. Almost as good as the original wing strut mounted version on a Tiger Moth. What type of aircraft is it?

  • Cool. whats the max safe speed on that ?

  • Nice vid!!! My God, that thing took off like a rocket!

  • Wow! A definite thumbs-up on this one... Can't believe its only 105,319 views.

  • "okay youtubers, this is kermit, kermit the frog"

  • Is flying over the golfers on the landing approach classed as "buzzing"? I don't know.

  • Very cool and good job on the plan larry

  • 4:41 black hole sun

  • @LarryCanFly

Do You need Clearance from a ATC?

    Thanks Vaughn

  • very talkative.

  • Very cool. I saw the length of the video and thought that I would end up fast forwarding through most of it, but not only did I stay to the end, but I rewatched several parts. The acceleration during take off is impressive. Well done! :D

  • YOU LUCKY MAN .......;-)

  • @LarryCanFly thank you

  • Larry that is so cool!!! I am a private pilot pa28-200r.. just love it...looks like fun!!

  • Great vid!

  • Delightful! Simply delightful. Let's do it again.

  • is this the same engine you used on the moskito?

  • @automateanything Same make and model of engine but the one on the Mosquito has been modified to run vertical. I was lucky to get 4 engines 10 years ago, 2 for parts and 2 for running.

  • some guys get all the luck! great videos keep them coming!

i have been flying weightshift trikes since 91. flown all types in the uk (over 3000 hours logged) but never a turboprop.....yet!

    invite me over !!!! lol

  • Noise is one of a turbo prop but we need to have a look to believe it . Those engines arn't so cheap ; Hundred time the price of microlight for the turbo could be true.

  • @GEOFFROYX Believe it or not! Google: Larrys Turboprop.

  • @GEOFFROYX If you watched closely just before the second restart you would have seen the shadow from some smoke when the turbine flamed out for a couple secs.

  • Thanks for the video, felt like i was there,

  • why is this your only ultralight video? ive watched all the other ones and there all about the turbo copter. also is it illeagal to buzz the golfers? lol

  • @twistaj32 Helicopters are way more fun! Yes, FAR 103, =many rules, like: -cannot create a hazard to other persons or property. Can't fly over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or over any open air assembly of persons.

  • why is this your only ultralight video? ive watched all the other ones and there all about the turbo copter.

  • Cost for an APU FOR A HARRIER??

  • @Dominoes282 New today maybe $300K+. An old surplus one like mine, very rare. Similar engines like the JFS-100, surplus, have sold from $1K to $8K in the last few years.

  • Beautiful terrain, what part of the world are you in?

  • Awesome, Love the sound

  • Dude, absolutely sweet sound, with a noise like this I would go back into Ultralights (we call them Microlights in Ireland), let my Licence lapse a few years back, this noise is what it's all about, great video, good job, noise gives me a semi :D

  • Sun is Black, How cool is That!

  • That was fun!

  • Thank you so much for that!!! I am a fan for life... have you got a picture of what it was you were flying???

  • wow! I suddenly want to fly such a thing!

  • Wohoo i just went for a cyber fly with Larry lol so cool

  • I WANT SEE THE (YOUR) ENGIME

  • As a former Piper owner and pilot, this looks much cooler. Unfortunately, too old to do either anymore. Gread Vid. Loved it. Congratulations.

  • Please do tell what turbine you are using ??

  • smooooooooth. I think it'd be a great aerial photo/video platform.

  • could you put a small turboprop on a bike?

  • Wow, This gentleman is a very cool guy. Impressive beyond belief.

  • You are the bomb, Godspeed.

  • lol lunar eclipse at takeoff :)

  • I wish i had a cool old guy like that for a neighbor, and an ultralight, lol.

  • Watch bringing that Prop into reverse on that gravel strip. Don't want to chew up that expensive prop

  • That was amazing

  • Your a funny man Larry!

    Great video, keep em coming.

  • What is the fuel consumtion on an engine like the on you have?

  • Holy crappers? A turboprop on a ultralight? :D

  • beautiful.

  • Great video. Can you imagine going back in time and showing this craft to Leonardo DaVinci? I wonder, would he hesitate going up with you?

  • Larry this is excellent; fabulous view, superb flying skills, definitely some balls! my hat is off to you my friend.

  • can be a turboprop ultralight in your LSA category?

  • @JohnyE007 It's really a bummer that the new LSA category specifically disallows a turbine engine! Fortunately the Ultralight Part-103 leaves us free in that area. Freedom is a great thing! I wish we had more of it! Heck, Ivo Zdarsk moved to the desert (41.36N, -113.84W). Wouldn't it be funny if we had to "escape" back to the CZ to fly free.

  • @LarryCanFly

we have still an Ultralight category (up to 450 kg) in CZ, but we can use only piston engines :(

and I hope we get the LSA category in 2012

  • Wow, 900 pounds, ... 2 seats? Top speed?

Do you have to register it?

Do you need a license to fly it?

  • @LarryCanFly

yes you need to have a licence for that (about 20 hrs in flight training) and every aircraft has to be registred (as for example OK-JUR11)

all ULL in CZ must have max. stall-speed 65km/h (about 35 kts), today usually a factory made Utralight has a cruise speed about 110kts

    for one seat-ultralight there's a restriction about 230kg

I don't know u have still ultralights only for one seat!

  • @JohnyE007 In the USA, an ultralight is 254 pounds, 1 seat, 5 gallons, 27mph stall, many more restrictions, but -- the ultra-Free part is: no license, no registration, any engine, basically they do not treat it as an aircraft at all. The FAA said if we self regulate and be good, they will leave us alone! GB103.

  • @LarryCanFly

from old times when the aircraft were mainly from pipe-and-cloth

  • @LarryCanFly

I hope we will have a LSA due to many restriction in our UL category which is not suitable for us today. The restrictions come from the days when the aircrafts were from pipe-and-cloth.

If I was in USA I would build and jet engine ultralight ! :-)

  • Lol watch a golfball hit him when he's flying around

  • what's the trust of the engine?

  • @JohnyE007

I measured 310 pounds static "push" once with a IVO 372. I think it could do more since the tag reads 86BHP -

  • who makes the small turbojet?

  • @petsatcom

Lucas/Rotax London, surplus starter/APU for Harrier.

  • why didn't you put the indicator on one side? annoying

  • @teampullmyfinger

I black-taped the camera on at the last minute as an after thought.

I didn't realize the ASI was there until after the flight. Sorry.

  • cool

  • thats great man...looks like a lot of fun ..you got the world by the tale

  • Kudos Larry and yes, that was a smoothly enjoyable and positively interesting turboprop flight. Just one complaint . . too short . . but thanks a bunch anyway Larry!

We'll be checking out your other videos and thanks again for sharing,

    Michael - NW Saskatchewan CANADA

  • you the freaking man. that is outstanding. they should teach kids how to do this instead of phys ed.

  • Hi Larry !!

Hats of to you ;) !

    THAT WAS AWSOME !!!

Absolutely gorgeus transformation of your Harrier APU into the Turboprop !

Did you designed the gearbox yourself ??

Is there no clutch except the fluidic coupling of the free turbine ??

    Kind Regards,

    Marc

  • The music of the motor is quite sufficient :-)

  • he loves the bubbles.

  • @LarryCanFly Where did you buy this at, if it's a website, can you please send me the link via Private message or @Tehnoob00? Thanks in advance.

  • Fur tree?

  • @Gtansnds Oops, hmm, sounds like fur, spelled fir, I guess, ugh. My spelling defanicy / difishency / deffencancy / da-fish-ant-see / has been a real handicap for me my entire life! It's amazing that I've accomplished anything. It's super embarrising - thanks!

  • So ... since this thing should have buttloads of thrust ... have you tried flying straight up?

  • lol

    *engine starts whining down*

    Come on!

    *engine starts whining back up*

  • Nice! Would love to see a video shot from the wingtip, looking in at you and the plane.

  • Captions were awesome! Not even a "real" runway; just super bumpy field. Turbine seemed quieter than the usual ultralight engine.

  • @Intiminator99 real runways were and still are, here, there, and everywhere, known as "dirt strips" sometimes called grass strips. As opposed to synthetic, prepared runways. Historially paved with macadem, was kinda how they started the synthetic ones, etc.....from an old pilot fading away. FYI yup, i flew turboprops,

  • nice!

  • at 6:47 what is that swimming in the water???

  • man you are my idol i hope to be like you some day

  • This has to be the coolest video on YT. That looked like fun!

  • Looks like lots of fun! Thanks for sharing the video with us!

  • completely awesome. When I have the money and the time, this will consume all of it.

  • Congraturation!!

    it's Very nice Turboprop lightplane!

  • WOAH! :-) YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION. im sure your jet engine is to last for years to come eh?

WOW. It took off in like 6 seconds. And you reached 50mph in nothing flat!.

How do you get to fly over a golf course. Isnt that illegal?.

  • Great video! ...I'm amazed by your skill, do you have previous chopper flying experience?

  • Super cool... and nice scenery!

  • Airspeed is MPH?

  • @androidfarmer Yes, the AIS is MPH.

  • @LarryCanFly That's interesting... why not kts? Just curious.

  • @androidfarmer FAR 103 trumps 23. GB103!

  • thats amazing. it took off in seconds lol awesome video!

  • Wicked.

  • no vid of plane?

  • @Thetruthishere11 See video response, or search Youtube for: "Larry's Jet"

  • Thank you larry for the ride and the sound .you're awesome

  • Some may ask WHY? A turbine on a ultralight? But Larry says WHY NOT?!

  • That is just slicker than snot! How many gallons does it carry? That has got to be the most vibration free Ultralight ever. Kudos on the vision and execution. This might be the next big thing in Ultralights.

  • brovo!

  • What airframe is this? I used to fly a Weedhopper and Eipper MX.

  • @av8rdav The airframe is a Eipper GT-400. I crashed it into the forest and broke the wings so replaced them with very cool wood wings from a Hi-Max and the engine with a turbine and was back in the air in less than 5 years!

  • love the air speed indicator, its fantastic

  • @gumby1008 It's a Hall wind meter. Very common basic airspeed indicator for ultralights.

  • whats the weight limit on most ultralights? or do u just make it bigger and get a better engine until it can carry ya?

  • @IronfistedPriest 254 pounds is the weight limit for ALL ultralights in the USA, per Part 103, also, only 5 gallons, stall 27 or less, and lots of other things, but if you meet the requirements you can be FREE and you can FLY!

  • No matter what they say its good, tell them to eat pooh

  • Awsome - I hate my Rotax engine noise.....

  • it seems like you flew hanging from a pole that was holding the airspeed pole. that is magic...or are u trying to hide the ultralite?

  • @marc1bb Hide it? No, ... checkout my other video named: Larry's gas turbine jet engine turboprop ultralight, ... it's a video response. Shows most everything except the very cool wood wings I adapted from a HiMax (version of Team Mini-Max)

  • Thanks for not adding music. great ride . Thanks

  • This is awesome! I love the sound of the turbine starting. Much more pleasant sound than the Rotax screaming!

  • how much would one of these jets cost? how much thrust they give off?

  • @95090978 JFS-100's sell for from $3k to $6k. The one's I have are very rare - and so are priceless:-)) Pure thrust only, not much, but as a turboprop I'm getting over 300 pounds static.

  • Sounds amazing on landing....so peaceful when compared to a cranky piston engine. Love the annotations too.

  • @LarryCanFly "it all sucks. I would not do it except for one thing, it sure is fun!:-)"

Not everything, it sure sounds 100x better than the buzzy piston. Good luck and stay safe with your coptering around larry!

  • you are a champion

  • Very nice ;) more videos of your flying in this airplane ;) Flying is a lifestyle, I know it, because I flying too in ultralight.
