Thats very interesting for those interested in anthropology. In the end, the mix of germanic blood with the original finno-ugric people is a fine mix from the aesthetic point of view.
Its incredible to see that Estonians have a clear asiatic root not only because of the language but just take a look at this singers face. I lived in Estonia and could see that in person. most Estonians look germanic at first glance but if u have a good eye u will see that many also have asiatic features. Not to mention Finland , which the mongol features are much more pronounced. Ive seen some who were not for the blond hair I would even go far to say they were from Mongolia or China.
@Finlandfanatic Wow...Really??? I haven't noticed any Asiatic features in my face-I'm Estonian, but maybe I'm still too young to see any facial features clearly, still this childish chubbyness...
@Sigakoer Ok just came to my mind another example: country singer Airi Ojamets, pure estonian totally asiatic features. It seems like she just came out of a mongol tribe despite having blue eyes. Thats no myth thats just fact. Anyone can tell that. I dont see anything wrong with that but sami finish estonians and hungarians are finno-ugric. Thats more than proven. Pick up any anthropology book or go to any of those countries and see for yourself. BTW I love Estonia.
"Thats no myth thats just fact. Anyone can tell that." Of course Estonian, Sami, Finnish and Hungarian are Finno-Urgic languages. But these languages do not originates from Asia.
@Sigakoer Ok! So WHERE they originate from? Please explain if u could the many asian/mongol/non-indo european features( I dont know how to refer to those ethnic traits. They r usually know as asian but since u said their origin is not Asia I wont use the name anymore) u find among a lot of finns and some estonians as well. Really, I just would like to know what is your opinion on the subject. Thanks!
@Finlandfanatic The assumed bond between genetics and linguistics is one of the greatest misconceptions you can make. Hindi is approximately as closely related to Swedish than Finnish is to Hungarian. Do Indians and Swedes look alike because they speak related languages? There is no answer to your question. Languages are not packages that you pass on unchanged from one generation to another, they are constantly and chaotically evolving organisms that originate from nowhere.
@Hallanrauta "Do Indians and Swedes look alike because they speak related languages?. YES, lots of Indians from the upper castes have blue eyes and lighter skin, which account for their Indo-european origin. The original Aryans who invaded India and imposed their language on the dark native people were of Nordic stock, just like the Swedes. There u have the blood and linguistic relation.
@SirMoebbelsKerr Sorry for what? For knowing for a fact that Estonians and above all Finns have a mongol look? R u offended by that? If thats the case then that is your problem.
@Finlandfanatic I'm replying to your comment on Indians, but what you wrote above me is equally dubious. You're a victim of outdated, unscientific theories. I would suggest you stop reading Victorian books from so-called "physical anthropologists" (cranks) of the time and actually read some up-to-date modern scientific research if that's your kind of thing.
@MethenyAndBuckethead It's an old Estonian folk song about a girl who's being tempted by men with gold and silver, but she blows them off and lives for herself and the beauty of the world.
"He promised to carry me in his arms for my whole life And to give me the treasure below the end of the rainbow
I replied to him: ''I'd rather drown myself than give in to the temptation of gold!''
Up and down, with un-tied hair I swing down from the edge of the sky Free as a bluebird" etc :)
@s0erd Thank you for the clarification! I had an Estonian friend who recommended that I check this song out but I never got the chance to ask her what the lyrics meant haha. Now I like it even more :)
