Maybe you should look up more on Depeche Mode, talcire, as they are a part of the first synthpop era. The Synthpop genre ran through the late 1970's through the 1980's, and the style has recently been picked up by bands like Lowe, but it began with bands like Kraftwerk and later Depeche Mode, who are, indeed synthpop
