Lord at War is one of the best sires, and broodmare sires of all time. I would give my left nut to have one of his babys. He died from a tragic accident at Wimbourne farm. He is the Dam sire of War Emblem as well as this years Derby runner up Pioneer of the Nile.
lord at war's win in 1985 was the 50th anniversary of the big cap..there was a ton of promotion for the 50th and this was just before simulcasting hit so calif and there was a record crowd..if memories serves like 70000 people!!! thanks for posting..greinton would go on to a memorable campaign against precisionist...good old gate dancer who was the preakness winner of 84..and forever famous for his dq and run in the inagural breeders cup and those fancy ear muffs!
I was fascinated to learn that Lord At War was a grandson of the great Brigadier Gerard. This horse happens to be the dam sire of Ravens Pass, one of the leading fancies for the 2008 2000gns.
Can someone please post the 1986 SAH with gretion and harat - that was one of trevors greatest calls ever?

I was there that day. It was a great race, but what I most remember was how incredibly jammed Santa Anita was. You could barely move around at all!
I wonder if American horse racing will ever see non-Derby-day crowds like that again.
