  • :30 That rock flying into the doomsday machine was a nice touch!

  • by god captain this series is magnificent!

  • Your planet killer is better than any version I have seen from Paramount. Spinrad envisioned a huge monstrosity with all kinds of weapons coming off of it, not just a tube, but time, budgets and technology being what they were, they did what they could. I like the prongs coming out around the maw. Nice touch.

  • Dude you need to finish this.

  • I guess this is as far as this got. Well done.

  • Never been a fan of the Constitution class starships.. I prefer the sort that look like Voyager, more compact. I play Star Trek Online and i always stick to the science vessels, well until i got to Commander then i switched to Heavy Escort because it reminded me of ENTERPRISE (as in the one Archer commanded..)

  • .... (posts are too short for this).. and, I believe you could actually get an agent, and Paramount would probably hire you to work on all the episodes. Perhaps we could start a letter writing campaign (as was done in the second year of TOS), and make it so. ;)

  • I'm 58 years old now. I've watched Trek in all its incarnations, since 1966 when I was 13. In all my love of the old "cheap" effects, and my admiration of what paramount has done to bring them up to date (ala George Lucas,) I've never seen anything that I'd call an "improvement", over the original effects... until now. Amazing Job. No only did you update technically, the effects, but you added imagination to your work, that fit with dialog and story, and have genuinely improved TOS. Thank you.

  • Wow this is great

  • By the way, I just wanted to add that I have really enjoyed reading the feedback everyone has been posting... even the negative comments (as long as they're constructive). I read everything that's posted here, and I just wanted to say thanks to each of you for taking the time to write. I know I keep saying I will finish this "someday", but lately "someday" seems to keep slipping into the future. So until that "someday" arrives, I thank you TO-day for your feedback--it is very much appreciated.

  • Eh, it's OK Michael. Self-absorbed jerks who think they're entitled to the (CGI-ed) moon and the stars aren't worth a phaser on stun. I do, however, thank you for your feedback. :)

  • pac43man u r the real asshole. -- read his message at the beginning if you can read -- you call a genius like PrfMoriarty an asshole? If I had a phaser.........

  • @Michael93406 I don't care what his message was at the beginning. I wasn't saying his graphics werent' "genius", as you put it. They were great. I hate when people don't finish what they start on YouTube. When you click on and follow something it's based on the title tag. No one reads the fine print. HE SAID CLIP 3 OF 8! It's a lie! 4-8 don't exist!

  • You have done an amazing job!!!! Do this to the original The Day The Earth Stool Still, War of the Worlds and Forbidden Planet.

  • Sir I submit to you that you are an asshole. You should warn people in the description that you didn't bother to post the entire episode. Wonder how many hits you would have gotten then. Zero.

  • @pac43man because it's so hard to switch between parts. Faster than watching it on TV

  • @deerhunterp What? Only part of the episode is posted. That was what my comment was about. What is your comment about?

  • god damnit a 4 beam laser?

  • I like to know where part 4-8 are

  • Never been much of a Trekkie myself, but the ingenuity of the fans with their fan made films is stunning.. love the additions on this vid!

  • This was my favorite Trek episode and there is alot of unedited footage in this sequence. Growing up watching these in the 70's on WPIX, the station paired down the episodes to 44 minutes and it really took away from the plot line. Later on they were restored to a point but I guess now everything from the original edits should be on the DVDs. I sohuld just cave in and buy the whole set.

  • Why is there no part 4?

  • 4:00 - The USS Constellation's logo was - - - - A PRETZEL!?!

  • Excellent opening graphics: The Enterprise dodges and weaves through the asteroid field, while the Machine goes THROUGH it. It really displays their relative strengths without saying a word.

  • sooo good....like the Enterprise's tail-lights at 7:35. Enhancements are pure dope!

  • Is that why the crew gets tossed all over the bridge? Keep eating those mushroms.

  • That scene starting at 6:59, when Windom is turning in the chair to stare down the bridge crew........brrrrrrrrrrr.

  • @Setebos DUDE! That is the best description I have ever read! the first thing i thought about was an old 60's cartoon called Chilly Willy, and I laughed even harder!

    Thanks!

  • @cleekmaker00 -- no problem. I was thinking that, if I was serving on a starship, and I saw that sort of expression on my commanding officer's face, then I'd be quietly thinking that it was time to closely inspect the escape pods.

  • Crimeson Tide, they are both right.

Spock is wrong in that the Enterprise should divert the beast away from Federation Planets.

    Crimeson Tide

Matt Decker is wrong, guided by vengence and old school protocol.

  • Has anyone heard from Prof Moriarty in past several months? I got a couple replies on the comments from him about a year ago and have been waiting since then for Part 4, but I have not seen, nor heard anything. Hope all is well with the good Prof.

  • Warp drive, phasers, transporters, but no seat belts.

  • @atban1824 The warp drive moves the ship by creating an artificial gravity wave that causes a starship to "fall forward" or, in whatever direction the gravity wave is steered. The ship changes direction by changing the gravity amplitude between the nacelles. Forward, backward, up, down, is done by phase shift of the waves. In so doing, the crew and things inside the ship are inside the gravity wave and feel no acceleration. Therefore, no seatbelts needed under normal circumstances.

  • So are you...Sir

  • I'm a die-hard Trekkie from 'way back -- and I think your work is really stunning - way to go!

  • One other suggestion I might make is that you take out the sun in the opening shots of the Constellation. It's eerie to think that the ship is abandoned in the void of space. With the sun in the shot, it makes the imagery too bright; it takes away from the dark, creepy, lonely feel of a lost ship.

  • You should be a consultant for SFX enhancements for shows like this (maybe they'll do something like this with the original Battlestar Galactica). Your shot in Doomsday where the Enterprise is being pursued through the asteroids by the doomsday machine is awesome. I do think that you could do a little better with the fire effect in the machine, and I think I like the original design (or lack of design) of the original machine.

  • You are a freakin' genius! You're graphics are so much better than the official enhanced episodes. I don't like a lot of what they did, but some I do. They took too many liberties with the SFX in some areas (like when they took out some classic Enterprise shots like when the Enterprise is tumbling toward the camera in Where No Man Has Gone Before) and not enough liberty with other areas (where they didn't do anything interesting with shots, like you did with the opening sequence in Doomsday).

  • Pity he ran out of steam on this project, as the results - to coin a phrase - have been "fascinating".

    11/10.

  • 0:27 That was close, Sulu's one helluva pilot! Just watched the first two parts, and I must say, you've done an excellent job on this classic episode.

  • Oh wait, nevermind; those are Orions. =/

  • @crazy88boss Yeah, Rigel is populated entirely by greedy muppets that fart helium. ;)

  • @GoblinXXX I hope the Dominar makes it out ok.

  • @crazy88boss Don't worry about him- "He's no one's PUPPET!" ;)

  • @GoblinXXX I sea whut yu did thar...

  • @crazy88boss That was an actual Rigel quote from one episode! Best line ever.

  • @GoblinXXX Haha how ironic. Really great show.

  • What Decker meant to say was, you can't let that thing reach Rigel... millions of innocent green hookers will die.

  • "They can't take much more of this!" said Spock. Since Scotty was on the Constallation someone had to say it :)

  • @retluoc True lol

  • @retluoc Meanwhile, on the Constellation, Scotty cocked one eyebrow and said "Fascinating!"

  • Very good special effects even better than phase 2

  • The new stuff is total garbage. Star Trek would've worked with no special effects at all. That's how good the acting and writing were.

  • I like that you gave CBS props with the bell tone at the end, Even though thosee assholes won't post free whole episodes, and what they post has commercials.

    Nice Job

  • @tahoevic free complete episodes are available at startrek.com.

  • In counting the months from your last posting on this, it was in December of last year. It's now August of 2011. Any new developements since the last posting? or have you abandoned the entire project? Just curious.

  • 3 people got motion sickness.

    Beautiful work.

  • where is parts 4, 5, 6, 7, 8?

  • This is the absolute, positively BEST the Enterprise and Constellation have ever looked (and they have always been gorgeous)! You are a genius! I love your take on the camera angles, ship motions and, well, just everything you have done. I can't wait to see part 4 - which will involve the heroic return of the Constellation to the battle! Great Work!

  • 5:18 - 5:20 Well that's the best thought through counter-argument ever.

  • I've watched parts 1-3 several times now. Hope to see more. What a great treat to revisit one of my all time favorite TV shows and see techno-improvements! Very enjoyable. Great job. Look forward to more.

  • A very good remastering of this episode. The redesign of the Doomsday Machine is outstanding. This is the quality one would hope for and expect of Paramount.

Really looking forward to parts 4 and forward.

  • This is AMAZING! Thank You for all your efforts!!

  • I always love the way they hammed it up in these old episodes, especially this one. Commodore Decker was a hoot! :)

  • Magnificent Job!!! LOVE to see how the other episodes turn out.

  • Come on we need the rest. This is a great remaster.

  • Well, you blocked out messageing.

Great job on The Doomsday Machine!

  • MAN!

Everything I watch this episode I want to beat the crap out of that guy.

EVER-TIME. And I have watched star trek since '75.

  • there was a theory, put by one the many paperback star treck novels, that the 'doomsday' machine was actually created to fight an defeat the borg.wether you go with that or not is up to you,but given the emount of power that thing put out I would give it the benefit of the doubt.....

  • @TheReboot70

Well, lets hope not. I, personally, do not like to imagine some of the connections they come up with. It reminds me of current Hollywood and the remake crap or dumbing down... It is a huge universe, I like this as a one-off. Keeps you in wonder...

Just like Gene would have liked.

  • "Mr Spock knows his duty under regulations Doctor...do you?"

    SNAP!!!

  • Oh, I love the look Spock gives Decker at 5:05 after he says "You tried to destroy it once before Commodore and the result was a wrecked ship and a dead crew" Spock looks positively Satanic with that death stare he gives him.

  • I especially love the opening maneuvers of the Enterprise and the Planet Killer.

  • I really look forward to you finishing this. Hell I think they should hire you to redo all the episodes and re release the series. Well done sir.

  • where is part 4?

  • O ,how I love this

  • I can't believe how great this is. I'm 46 years old and I've seen this episode literally hundreds of times (its my favorite). This version gives me chills and I'm an old man! Great, great work.

  • The Enterprise and the Constellation look marvelous... (Well... the Constellation such as she is in this episode. Poor girl... pains me to see a Constitution class in such a state! :p )

  • Really NICE work! I'd love to see more of this!

  • The doomsday machine looks like a calamari at 8:56 :)

  • Damn Impressive. You matched the action to the music well, this seems better than the stuff remastered from paramount....I'm curious did you use Blender. I really think Hollywood is off worrying about Piracy of their content when serious and talented hobbyists will produce equivalent or better content direct to the fans....it is just a matter of time. New bands have bypassed Big Music going direct to their fans for over a decade now....

  • Excellent work!!! 5 billion "stars" for your efforts!!! My only critique is the sound quality but I think you know this already. Also May I suggest making deep space a little darker, I found it a bit too gray. Just my two cents. Keep up the good work!!!

  • This is great work. I'd love to see more!

  • 1:31 WWWHHHHAAAAAAAMMMMMM! WWWWWOOOOOOWWWWWW!

  • Decker is emotionally compromised, isn't there a regulation about that lol

  • MORIARTY, YOU KICK- ASS ON THIS EPISODE GOOD WORK MAN!!

  • thanks for taking the time out of your schedule to upload this

  • dude, noticed you liked visual effects videos and i thought you would also like mine.

    zach

  • I think you're overdoing the asteroids slightly (and ONLY slightly), but other than that, I like your take on the FX even more than the official version. Are you doing this alone, with just home equipment? I'm impressed!

By all means, keep working on this, I'm lovin' it. I'd ask if you wanted to do a remaster on the sound (make the phasers sizzle like they did in Star Trek ii, that sort of thing), but that would be a lot of work, and you'd need clean dialogue and music tracks.

  • These are more than 30 years old and the Quality is off the hook!! Paramount nailed this one!~great direction, awesome scripts!~love the Camera shots~way ahead of it's time, this show introduced Fax Machines before there were such a thing~ Computers that computed and talked! Digital Clocks!~Communicators/Cell phones!~Phasers Stun guns!~Monitors ,microwaves ,etc......

  • U should really consider re-doing the CGI shots on Star Trek V: The Final Forntier and sending it to Bill Shatner. I'm sure he be impresssed :-)

  • Hey are you gonna finish this soon? Your work so far is AMAZING. Top notch.

  • Dude i love this u should talk to cbs or who ever and sell remade copies, i would buy!

  • Dammit PT I know you're a doctor not an internet mechanic, Absolutely outstanding work; I also agree with omega31 comment re Decker's med Exam.: In "Obsession" McKoy challenges Kirk's state of mind in Kirk's cabin: - Kirk - "don't push our friendship tot the point...." McKoy - "I'm not Captain, this is professional ! I am preparing a medical log entry about the mental fitness of a Starship Captain " Spock enters; Kirk - "do I take it Dr. that you or Spock feel I am unfit for command?"-

  • not meaning to nitpick the episodes original story but wouldnt decker have been required to to undergo a medical examination after boarding enterprise? Kudos on the work btw. very well done. i must admit though i would have love to have seen the beam actually hit enterprise :o)

  • YOU can add my voice to a job well done, good luck sir nice work...

  • Great work sir. A truly fabulous effort that elevates an already good storyline. I understand the issue with Paramount, but I imagine that someone in that corporation has seen this video, and commented "gee, we ought to hire this guy".

In any event, your good work will carry the magic and wonder of this excellent program on for generations to come. Thanks again for your great work.

  • The Doomsday Machine kind of looks like the Tower of Isengard.

  • This is my favorite episode of the Star Trek series. These effects are incredible!!! NICE WORK!!!! I can only imagine the time it takes to do this, but your hard work is definitely appreciated.

  • Nicely Done in the Opening scene!!

I stumbled across your videos while searching for the scene of the Enterprise's attack on the Doomsday Machine. Had only partially seen the updated CGI studio version of this episode, but your video leaves me wanting to see more. Your additional visual effects add depth to this drama. Great Episode, BTW, glad u chose this one. Look forward to your remaining videos. Good Luck!!

  • Looks good!

  • nice intro. wasn't expecting that.

  • This work really is impressive, and the fact that your doing it on your own with sparetime. You are inspiring me to finish the novel I began writing 14 years ago.

I really hope you are able to finish this at some point.

  • 7:57 man I love that shot!

  • Dude, if you aren't working in the industry you surely should submit this and get a job.

INCREDIBLY well done - can I get you to redo the entire series and mail it to my on DVD by say...next week? :D

    Orion

  • I love this show and this reimagined version, however I can't accept the Enterprise banking like an F-14. There are no air currents in space therfore you can't bank.

  • @grandpadewey The impulse engines are designed so the Enterprise can bank and turn, plus it has manuvering thrusters to assist with rapid course changes. Moving the way we saw in this video would likely push them to their limits, but it is still within their ability.

  • Hi everyone.... thank you very much for the kind feedback. I wish I could say this will be finished by XX/XX/XX, but it's really hard to maintain momentum on a project like this. Between the holidays and 13-hour workdays, it's tough to summon the creative genie (not to mention the stamina) to sit in front of a computer for another 8+ hours in the evenings.

This will be finished... someday. Just not today.

  • @PrfMoriarty

What? You're working on something ELSE? Quit and feed our needs! WE WANT MORE FREE ICE CREAM DANGIT!

    Orion

PS: Thank you VERY much for the work and creativity you're putting into this project.

  • @PrfMoriarty I hear ya. I've tried doing some 3D enhancements on Trek episodes myself, just not this high-end. It's time-consuming and hard to do in short bits of time here and there. But you've done outstanding work.

  • @PrfMoriarty dude this looks better than the dvd version

  • @PrfMoriarty you cant even give us a freakin year dude.

  • You are a Genius! I have been a Star Trek fan my whole life! You not only captured the look and feel of this great episode but also convey the suspense and drama of this classic episode! KUDOS!

  • Nice touch having the DDM eat that asteroid. Loved the Deathstar death ray too :)

  • WOW, This is amazing.More please. And a suggestion for your next project. The Enterprise and all our favorite Federation ships,The Gallactica and the Millennium Falcon take on The Borg,The Cylons and The Empire......with a cameo appearance of the Jupiter 2

  • You gotta finish this man! This is too sweet to abandon!

  • This EZCELLENT work..thank you dor sharing it...i wonder if Abrams Trek movies are gonna feature some of these other starfleet characters like Decker , Rand, Chapel and Gary Mitchell

  • even down to the quasi translucence of the doomsday machine shell. Wow. Nice attention to the original.

  • "Mr. Spock knows his duties under regulations, Doctor... Do you?"

("Uh, yeah. Report to Sickbay and wait for that boatload of casualities you'll be sending me soon." He stalks into the turbolift, muttering and growling under his breath...)

Keep it coming, Professor... keep it coming!

  • Are you making part 4? I've been dying to see your next interpretation!! This is really outstanding work, ya can't leave us all hanging!! :)

  • Loving this remake of "The Doomsday Machine" you're doing, PrfMoriarty. I'm hoping the remaining parts will be completed soon.

  • 6:25-6:53- Poor Old Dr McCoy gets TOTALLY OWNED...!! I HATED that smug -ass look on Decker's face during that whole sequence. Bastard. Spock should have got some human ballz and did the ole' Vulcan neck pinch to put Decker out of commish, then tell the good Doctor to take him downstairs for a badly needed shave and haircut!!!! (decker= punk) LOL

  • Both Dr McCoy and Commodore Decker are quick tempered and argumentative. Can you imagine THOSE two serving on the same ship?

  • Let me get this straight..Rflol. The commodore beams his crew onto a planet, he watches while it is destroyed, has a break down- he takes on a robot vessel quite capable of vaporising planets. Gets well and truly beaten. Then he assumes command of the enterprise gets rid of its temporary captain, then wants to take on the robot again-and everyone just stares at him!??

  • 4:17 Spock and Sulu are like "Yeaaaaaahhh- NO. "

  • Very well done!

  • @PrfMoriarty: Like many other viewers, I can't wait to see the rest of this. Your reimagining of the planet-killer is brilliant. I love how it's more aggressive and predatory in appearance and behavior. It looks more like an advanced weapon than the hulking cornucopia shown in the original and the remaster.

  • SO ARE YOU...SIR

    lol fail xD

  • This is awesome, i part three to eight were on youtube.

  • I really do like this! One thing however- I'm not sure about the location and scope of the "asteroid belt" in your interpretation. It seems to be too relatively stable to be the debris field left by the planet-and the dialogue implies that they're not close to the debris field, let alone actually IN it. (In fact, the fact that Kirk says "there is no 3rd planet" implies that the debris field is gone.)

So I wonder what this asteroid field is. In real life (e.g.-the asteroid belt in our solar

  • @composerdoh system) -in my understanding, anyway- asteroid belts are so vast that one can easily fly through them for millions of miles and never even SEE an asteroid.

So most of the "asteroid belts" in Star Wars are really quite absurd. UNLESS

it's a debris field, or the rings of a planet like Saturn, then it MIGHT appear the way you and Lucas seem to like them- tailor made for suspense, but not realistic, I'm afraid.

  • I love this version the most! Please finish!

  • More please!

  • Good lord man - I need part 4!! I have seen 4 versions of this remastered, and yours, is by far the most imaginative and well made of all of them. Great job - I love the fact that we remain in the asteroid/planet rubble field, and especially when you "showed" the enterprise as being more maneuverable - as it was whipping through the field - GREAT JOB! More, please!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Outstanding job!

  • KIRK: "Spock? Spock?. Spock, can you hear me? KIRK (additional words?), "Scotty, I am going to engineering." KIRK: "Spock can you hear me now? SPOCK?" (Kirk now goes to Sick Bay); "Spock can you hear me now?" (Kirk then talks to himself); "Damn, when I get back to a Starbase, I am going to change my cell phone provider!"

  • Where is part 4 hello

  • We NEED MORE WOW MORE MORE..

  • If I may suggest: The anti-proton beam looks a bit awkward, focussing into nothing like that. More impressive would appear a voluminous blast like from the wave-motion gun in "Star Blazers".

  • I just found this page OMG you did this first? Great job, I mean really really wonderful job I would like to shake your hand,WOW....Thank you for putting this up.

  • Is it me, or are there way too many asteroids? Hard to believe (even with advanced deflector shield capability) that when the ship is hit by the anti-proton (absolutely pure) beam it wouldn't be flung into a rogue roid.

  • Great work.

Now you have taken this project this far.... how long before you submit more?

  • just love the enhanced effects. can't wait for part 4..... this is one of my favorite episodes...

  • You have done a great job here PrfMoriarty. Your approach to the visual effects and care to detail make your work as good or even better than the CBS remastered episodes. Hope you can finish this!

  • Dude, you're a goddamn genius. Your work is beautiful!

  • Dude, you're a goddamn genius. Your work is beautiful!

  • Awesome new graphics!!! Mix of retro 60's meets modern computer graphics...

Episode holds up well through time. Makes me realize how uncreative modern TV is....

Well done for posting these Moriarty - I'm sure S. Holmes would tip his hat.

  • Very good. But the Planet Killer could have been better.

  • Amazing the Constellation is all but dead, but how convient Gravity and life support are functioning normally....

  • hahahaahahahahahaha

    nerds all of you

  • beautiful work, Professor and thank you. Makes me fall in love with the series all over again.

  • when you do get around to posting part 4...can you leave the watermarks out?

  • I like the lil NBC .. ditty at the end .. very clever!!

  • excellent work.

    what programme(s) do you use?

  • wheres ma chekov :'( hes not in it, nooooo

  • PrfMoriarty,............you are THE MAN! Awesome videos! Can't wait for part four!

  • Extremely well done :) I love it!

  • PrfMoriarty, this is Captain Kirkstone of the Stoneship Magnetize... I order you to put up part 4!!! :)

Seriously, though, I love what you done with the visuals of this episode, and hope to see it in it's entireity hopefully soon. Also, as a request, "Balance Of Terror" would be another great Star Trek Space Episode to recreate.

  • The Dechards must all be suicidal. They obviously avoid mental health programs in the Federation and die by the hand of some big mechine.Still, one of the best uses of the Moby Dick theme used cleverly in a sci fi tv series.

  • OMG dude, this is a superb job you have done. I like the official remastered FX, but yours are just as good, and you are ONE PERSON!!! AMAZING!!

  • the greatest thing about this version is that it's the way a fan would have done it. Analyzed down to every spec of detail with perfection, something paramount wasn't exactly willing to do. I don't care if you haven't completed it yet, I'd take this over the remastered episode any day!

  • For the dumsht audiunce the blank space needs to be black, Yeah we know it's bright out there but for cinematic purposes it would be best left black!

  • LOL!!

  • "Washburn, report to engineering and assist ProfMoriarty."

"ProfM...push her right to the edge...."

  • More, do you hear me?! I want more!

  • @theartsig Captain I'm workin' as fast as I can!

  • "Washburn, report to engineering and assist ProfMoriarty."

"ProfM...push her right to the edge....that ship has got to maneuver!"

I knew all my Trek trivia would come in handy someday! LOL!
