It will be some kind of insect, cctv cameras have notoriously poor lenses compared to cameras & this one is obviously focused on the floor area rather than right on the lense itself - hence the blurry image of the 'thing'. This doesn't however explain the locked door being open in the morning.

most likely a spider, based on size, movement and colour of the blur.

I used to see such blurs all the time on Security Camera's, would have to chase it down with a Cobweb broom. used to get small lizards as well.

that said without a clear image of the spider, a paranormal source cannot be completely ruled out, but I'd say it is 95/5 in favour of a spider

It's a bug on the camera lens. It happens where I work at a drive thru restaurant....a spider building its web on the lens looks like it is on top of the cars sitting at the speaker outside. Very common. Not a ghost. There are plenty of real ghosts out there...don't waste your time with crap like this.

I am a member of a paranormal investigation group and we just investigated the claims of the library. We tried to recreate the movement by using a fake spider and it was nowhere near what was captured that night. The camera is also enclosed in a globe so it was nothing on the lens and even when we moved the spider around it did not move like that mass. Be a little more reasonable when you view the tape because it is definitly not a bug. check NorthEast Spirit Investigations on youtube for more.

As blurry as it is, you can still make out the legs at certain times, especially the upper-most one on the right. I might have given this a speck of belief if the "shadow" had gone through that doorway, disappeared through that wall, or done anything at all to suggest that it was parallel to the ground. Obviously a spider. =/

It's some type of bug on the camera lens. Anybody that has had a job in security can tell you that. A cameras focus is set for close or near the ground while being mounted by the ceiling. Anything near or on the camera lens would show up as a blur.

Focus for the security cameras is set for a specific depth of field; i.e. images from about a foot away from the lens and beyond will be in focus. Any tiny object on or really close to the lens will appear out of focus, like a blur, which is precisely what this is: a bug crawling on the lens. No doubt whatsoever. The bug is simply not in focus b/c of the camera's depth of field. Period.

My group was just there investigating and we held a tiny toy spider up to the lens. We got a perfectly clear image of the spider that was unmistakable. The camera is also in a globe. Now I wasnt to sure what it was watching the video but I know that wasnt a bug or dust ball on the lens. Im not saying its a ghost either but if something is on the globe its clear as day. If something is low to the ground it is as clear as day. The camera also does not go out of focus while fooling around with it

I attended SUNY New Paltz in the 1970's,lived in town for 4 years, and have been in this very library.

It is a very old building, and if a spirit world does exist, it is quite possible this place would have a literary one. There were also quite a few insects & mice around town, as it is surrounded by woods and mountains.Perhaps this is a shadow of a critter around the camera lens?
