It's also important to acknowledge that passing as cissexual is much more important for MTFs than FTMs as a matter of safety. FTM people who do go on T almost invariably gain conditional cissexual privilege. Hormones alone frequently do not confer such a privilege on MTF folks.
It's easy to discount the importance of being correctly gendered by others when you know you will be soon even if you aren't now. Yet others have little hope of becoming free from the stress of constant misgendering.
Passing as cissexual is a huge privilege, so it's important to recognize that. Not everyone has access to the medical care they need to help them feel comfortable in their body. An obsession with "passing" is often simply about the person trying to make themselves feel comfortable when they don't have the primary and secondary sex characteristics that their brain craves.
i like this video, i've wondered some of the same things, i mean i myself like passing, & it makes me feel awesome when i do pass- but on the opposite side- if i don't pass- i don't care- it's who i am- i don't need anyone Else's approval or comments really. lol but i like having them nonetheless. i know that probably sounded confusing & contradicting, but in conclusion, passing is awesome, but it's not necessary :] (but a side note- lose the gum next time- it was driving me CRAZY!) lol
